The upheaval and aftermath of PRIMEVAL had lit the fire under Hoenn's ass. Annalise pushing for training was one of the few positives. Everything else was…well rough. The Champion MIA, the one held responsible still in his position. There'd been some change in MATIAS SILPH ’ mental state but no telling if it could slip at any time. Especially with the only person able to stabilize him missing. [break][break]

Annalise is a small break from those thoughts. She’d checked in on him soon after the events at Mt. Chimney and asked for a sparring session. He’d already been planning an outing to the desert after he left the hospital, so he simply brought her along with him. Standing in the shadow of a mesa, Joules beeped excitedly, having done a small lap around the immediate vicinity before settling back next to their trainer. No danger at the moment. [break][break]

“We should be good here to set up for our break later.” he said, leaning his belongings against the rock wall. “One v one right?” he added as Joules floated, magnets spinning eagerly while Paxton set aside some potions for the aftermath of their bout.

"Alright." He said. Joules takes position across from the Ranger pair, glowing bright yellow. A small aoe on the sand joins them as Joules sets up ELECTRIC TERRAIN while Paxton gives the Magnezone a pat on the metal. Unlike most days, he's neither dressed in slacks and button ups, or thick leathers and body armor. For the desert heat, he dons the fading white cast of sunscreen on his skin, a t-shirt, and joggers. His walking shoes and socks carefully set next to his belongings on top of a folded up blankets they'd yet to set up. [break][break]

Annalise had asked to spar, and the gym hadn't had enough space. An official pitch was also out of the question on such short notice, but it'd been worth the try. The desert was their next best bet, with more than enough open space for aerial battle between the two of them. Also, he knew it best, spending enough time out here on his own regardless. Additionally, the sand would make for great resistance training.[break][break]

Joules finishes setting up and Paxton moves to the side stretching his arms above his head until he felt something pop. "Remember how to tap out." is the only warning he gives before he takes off on the sand, sprinting straight at his companion. [break][break]

[break][break]her trainer remains, watching carefully as paxton concordas sheds anything unnecessary. after a moment of observation, annalise follows suit, twisting her mega ring off and putting it into the pocket of her shorts. her jacket is shrugged off, then her socks are tucked into her shoes and gently placed beside the rest of her belongings. [break][break]she steps back and gets into position, hands up.[break][break]"i won't need to." [break][break]he breaks into a sprint. she slides a foot slightly back and tenses, waiting for him to get close. overhead, cotton candy fires a DRAGON PULSE at his magnezone.

"We'll see." he said with a grunt as he approached her, sand kicking up behind him as he ran. She doesn't push towards him first, instead holding her position. Good. Paxton doesn't go for a sweep, instead he gets close enough to Annalise before lifting his leg and trying to slam his foot into her stomach to push her back. [break][break]

Joules for their part glows with rainbow light, their front reflecting like a mirror before the strange attack reaches them. MIRROR COAT catches part of the pulse and they try to ricochet it back towards the Altaria. Joules, like their trainer, also flies forward intent on keeping the pressure on their opponents. As they begin to fight, over the horizon, something seems to move. Perhaps it's an impending SANDSTORM, which meant their fight may have been on a timeline. [break][break]

annalise waits and observes. it's her only time during their sparring that she'll be able to predict the strike before it lands, so she takes advantage of paxton concordas taking the first move. sand spits beneath his heels as he closes the gap between them, then raises a leg. [break][break] a kick —[break][break] she tenses, starts a retreat, but the blow to her stomach still steals the air out of her body. she groans, the momentum taking her one more stumbling step backwards, but she doesn't fold over or fall down. pale fingers snap down to try and grab his ankle before he can pull his leg back, trying to wrench his balance out from under him. [break][break]
overhead, her altaria fluffs up her feathers protectively. the reflected DRAGON PULSE sinks into the plush defense of her COTTON GUARD, softening the sting of the blow. the dragon allows the pursuit, humming as it flits around, maintaining a careful distance from the magnezone.
