This was stressful, beyond stressful. Why had she agreed to a bake-off? Oh, right, because it the bake sale was fundraising the repairs for Slateport city. But what has possessed her to sign up for actually baking? She couldn't even cook an edible meal, let alone bake something sweet![break][break]

Colour floods from her cheeks as she witnesses yet another sample of her rice crispies get chewed on, then promptly spit out. She glances away, feigning ignorance as the individual shakes their head in disappointment in her direction. [break][break]

Instead, she's landed on the silhouette of a girl who didn't appear to be doing anything at all. She seemed lost, or maybe Stormy was just making assumptions. Regardless, she'd grab hold of the girl's hood or shirt collar, giving it a sharp tug.[break][break]

"Hey, you look jobless. C'mere and help me out. This is a bake sale, not a standing around sale! We aren't gonna raise any money just standing around twiddling our thumbs!"[break][break]

She says this aggressively, but she doesn't mean to. She's flustered and frustrated that her sales aren't going over well. People are asking for refunds - refunds for a totally not-for-profit bake sale! The audacity![break][break]

"Do you know anything about making rice crispies? They're supposed to be super easy to make. Melt marshmallows, add some sugar, add some crispy ride. Maybe come chocolate chips and sprinkles. I don't know what else. Man! I don't make sweets!"[break][break]

She groans, tugging her hair instead of the girl's clothing, essentially letting her run away if she wanted to.[break][break]

"Please.. please help me out."

All she'd wanted was a snack. A free snack, preferably, but she would settle for a cheap one. But no, these treats were for charity and the money needed to go to a good cause (and according to at least four of the vendors, her stomach didn't count as a good cause). So Annie wandered, with empty pockets and a near-empty stomach, staring and hoping that fortune would shine upon her-

A hand and a voice yanked her away from her thoughts. She turned, eyes narrowed, to the distraction. A girl, pretty cute, agitated and making demands of good old Annie. She had half a mind to return fire with some harsh-spoken words of her own, but once she let the crime of grabbing her slide, an idea came to mind. Making food meant eating food, and selling food meant having money. Sure, there was the slight issue of making the food, but it sounded simple enough! Her frown relaxed, and her eyes widened, a devious glint appearing in them. "Well, lucky for you, I'm feeling generous today! The Great Annie Mei has never failed to make a sale, or make a rice crispie! Just one question!" Both hands rested on her hips. "Can we add eggs to it?"

Stormy misses the moment of fire buried in the girl's eyes as she's far too preoccupied with trying to actually provide something useful for the charity event.[break][break]

However, she's soon distracted from her muddled, messy thoughts as Annie asks a question that she finds strange.[break][break]

"Eggs? Sure, yeah, whatever. Just make sure they taste good and that's all I care about."[break][break]

She waves her off, ushering her towards her induction portable stovetop where the marshmellows were slowly being melted down.[break][break]

"All of your necessary ingredients should be there, now get crackin'! We haven't got all day. And remember, it's a bake sale, not an eating contest. Keep the sampling to a minimum!"[break][break]

Meanwhile, Stormy would put on a brave smile to the crowd and continue fruitlessly offering her hard-as-rock and inedible treats she had made earlier to try and appease the crowd until the better batch was ready.

Tagging: Stormy Silph

Eggs were a-go! “I’ve never made anything that tastes bad!” Mostly because she only cooked when hunger forced her hand, and everything tasted delicious on an empty stomach. The girl shooed her away, and Annie, doing her best not to take slight offense, hurried off to get the job done.

She tried to remember the last time she’d been allowed to use an oven. She quickly realised that such an event had never taken place. Something about not letting small, manic children near gas appliances. She only had a third of an oven to work with, but supposedly that was all she needed. Her eyes danced over the table. Not much, but it was enough to make a start.

No eggs necessary. Yet.

Four minutes later and Annie had… a success?! Granted, rice crispie treats were notoriously difficult to mess up, and Annie had mixed the batch enough to hide any burnt spots of marshmallow. The only glaring issue was with their shape, and perhaps, with her delivery. “Step right up, ladies and gentlemen!” She’d taken on the demeanour of a radio announcer from decades gone by. “Weeeee’ve got ourselves here a lovely new breakfast treat that’s sweeping the nation! See here, folks, I’m about to introduce your daaaarling city to… Rice! Crispie! Rhombuses!”

If nothing else, boy, could she give a performance. The incredulousness of her pitch didn’t stop her from – or perhaps, emboldened her to – march across the venue, head held high and tray of plates held even higher.

“Yep-yep, that’s right! These delightful desserts are the result of minutes of ground-breaking research! Like a rollercoaster of sugary goodness, the rhombusy nature of these treats guarantees that you’ll meet the absolute peak of your dining experience right in the middle! Before that, you’ll build up to candy heaven, and spend the rest of your time with this beauty slowly coming back down to earth, thinking of what a wonderful experience you’d just… experienced! All of this can be yours for just… Er… How much are we selling these for?”

Stormy can't help but furrow her brow in mild distrust at the girl's boast. She appears much younger than herself, which, while not being that old herself, she couldn't honestly say she had known a damn thing about baking when she had been a teenager.[break][break]

She doesn't have time to doubt, however, as this girl will hopefully be her saving grace. If she couldn't make good rice crispies, she was done for.[break][break]

While the girl runs off to put together the ingredients, Stormy continues to front the sales, offering her hard-as-rock first batch with a brilliant smile. Of course, no one took any, but several were kind enough to donate anyway.[break][break]

It didn't take long, thankfully, for Annie to return with her fresh batch of delightfully delicious smelling crispies. They were a little mishapen and far from beautiful, but they were magically home-made looking and wonderful, which is all that matters.[break][break]

Stormy leaned back against her bake sale stand, covering her mouth as she watched, fondly, as the girl proudly pitched her sweet treats. [break][break]

She had to admit, the girl was genuine and cute. People were surrounding her left and right and Stormy would catch them on the way out to accept their donations. Pretty soon, her lack of funds had grown tenfold. [break][break]

"They're two pokedollars a piece! Or 6 for ten pokedollars."[break][break]

The woman would wink, tucking another donation into her change till. [break][break]

"Thank you for your donations, everyone! All funding is going to rebuilding Slateport!"

In the absence of a unique selling point for their goods, Annie had made herself the main attraction. Something about having to fend for herself had done wonders for her confidence, and taking into account that her next meal was on the line… She had no qualms about ramping her sales pitch up to eleven. It was paying off, too! Nobody was more surprised about that than she was, but she wouldn’t let it show. She still had food to sell, after all.

She balanced the lightened tray with one hand, breaking her stride just to give her makeshift employer a thumbs up. She pointed two fingers on her now free hand to her head in a mock phone gesture. It was an extremely frugal way to fake a phone call, but what was she going to do? Get enough money to buy an actual phone? “Hello? What’s that? Hoenn MegaCorp Number Seven? You want to buy the entire Rice Crispie Rhombus business?! Well, that’s great, Mister Bigwig, but that means whatever we have here is all that we have left! Everybody here should get them while they’re fresh, and while they have the chance!” She winked to a passer-by as they picked one of the treats up. “Thank you very much sir, and don’t forget to donate! It’s for a good cause!” What that cause was, she had no idea, but she figured her ‘boss’ would handle those details.

Stormy's change-purse continues to grow heavier and heavier as Annie's excellent marketing skills rake in the dough. Literally. People were over the moon for the new and improved rice crispies. They smelled like vanilla and sprinkles - like Christmas in a pile of marshmallow yumminess.[break][break]

And, the ranger can't help but watch in muted amusement at Annie's cheeriness. She leans against her booth casually as she watches the young girl pretend to take a phone call, proudly and confidently announcing her sales. It was honestly pretty impressive.[break][break]

Giggles bubble from her nose as she stifles her amusement, nodding as another person stops by to place a donation. She nods earnestly, briefly explaining the cause for the donations.[break][break]

"Yeah! All donations are going to funding the reconstruction and renovations in Slateport. Now that we've been able to take control of it again, it needs some serious TLC."

“TLC? Charity? That kinda rhymes. Aaaand it gives me an idea! Hold on a second.” Those sentences alone would ring alarm bells for anybody that knew the girl, but none of them were around to stop her! She places the tray of treats down on a counter and pulled out a Pokeball. Out came her Zorua, who seemed mildly confused by the summon.

“Kit, I need a favour. Can you do the eyebrow thing for me?” The fox cocked his head to one side, lost. Annie pointed to her eyebrows, a finger on each one. Somehow, that was enough to make his eyes light up, and he eagerly nodded. A red aura overcame the Zorua’s form, and both it and he grew several feet taller. When the glow faded, the Pokemon was gone, and in its place… a child? Much like Annie, he’d chosen loose clothes, but he was almost normal. Almost. His eyes were a tad too round, as if in permanent surprise, and his eyebrows matched the markings of his true form in shape and colour.

Not that any of that bothered Annie. No, she was already on the move, returning to give the tray to her Pokemon. With him in charge of holding the treats, she was free to perform. Annie dramatically cleared her throat, took two goosesteps forward, and began her song and dance:

“Marshmallow goodness, selling out fast!
Come and get them while stocks last!
You’ll support a charity,
That helps to fix Slateport City!”

Her Pokemon sniggered, and he probably wasn’t the only one. She didn’t care. She’d spent too long being ignored by the world to let a little something like embarrassment stop her from shining. Besides, as long as people were paying attention, she was doing her job.

Stormy continues to giggle while Annie takes charge of the situation. Really, she could sit back and relax while this youngster takes the reins, and she does just that. While the girl continues to sell the remainder of the squares. Before long, they start to run low.[break][break]

She watches idly as Annie becomes two people courtesy of a Zorua, and she soon intervenes as the announcer bellows - indicating the fundraiser is coming to an end and to start closing up shop.[break][break]

Her hand reaches into the bin to grab one of the squares, biting into it with a wink.[break][break]

"Well done! You can keep the rest, and here."[break][break]

She presses a fifty dollar bill into the girl's hand.[break][break]

"Compensation for wasting your afternoon selling squares instead of doing something else you'd probably rather be doing."[break][break]

With that being said, she would pack up her fundraised money into a bag to hand-deliver it to the Slateport mayor or gym leader for renovation purposes.
