They'd come across a trail of footprints once more, although whether they were his wasn't certain; they were fresh, and while it hadn't been snowing, the winds should've muddled up his tracks just a bit. Even so, it would be a pleasant surprise to run into another trainer out in the safari.

All they ended up running into was a skittish phantump hugging the treeline, which he had no reason to bother. He felt a little guilty though, having likely taken one of its playmates, but he supposed they were all bound to be captured anyway. Better him than someone else, right?

Then again, maybe not.

They continued forward, trudging slowly.

There wasn't much else to it but to keep going, even if they were lost. Adrian felt for sure a warden would be on their way, telling him his time was up, but it had yet to become manifest. Only snowflakes and frigid winds across a snow covered landscape. That's all there was.

And apparently a fair few pine cones. Another one had fallen on him, and he swiped it off the back of his arcanine quickly, only for it to be a pineco. Ouch. That hurt. Howitzer's body began to shimmer and burn (thankfully Adrian was unaffected,) which prompted the poor pokemon to scatter to the winds; or at least back up the tree it had ambushed them from. What a nuisance.

Maybe we should just wait here...

They never stopped despite Adrian's constant second guessing, wandering around aimlessly without any landmarks or intuition to guide him. His interest in catching pokemon had even dwindled, although he was still sure he'd find something. Like maybe a way out, he chided.

Eventually they crossed another vulpix, not that he even noticed it until they nearly walked into it. The startled creature jumped from its prone position in the snow, causing Adrian's heart to jump into his throat, causing him to scream in an unsightly way.

"Bloody thing near gave me a conniption..."

The wild pokemon had darted for it, but Howitzer's chest was rumbling with what might've been a canine form of laughter. Oh, sod off.

Whether it was the same Chespin or not remained unanswerable, but the thing did knock away his hand when he reached out to it. Maybe it thought he was going to try and smuggle it back towards the coldest parts of the safari area; or it was just a wild pokemon that wanted nothing more than to be left well alone. Too bad they all looked alike.

"Yeesh, whatever then..."

This pokemon made it clear he should move on.

Adrian wasn't too sure, but he swore he saw pokemon building a snowman in the distance. And as he got closer to them, he noticed that they were hoisting a voltorb to the top, making it the impromptu head of their snow creature.

It earned a chortle from Adrian as they passed it by, heading deeper into the safari reservation.

Adrian was getting tired of the pine cones and pinecos, so the next one he saw was toast. When it fell on his head, tumbling to the ground, he narrowed his eyes on it before commanding Howitzer to scorch the thing from the earth.

"Flamethrower." It went without saying that she burned it to a crisp, padding away without so much as a second look, perhaps happy to oblige Adrian.

He ran his fingers through her dense coat of fur, encouraging the behavior with a pat. "Good girl."

A long time had passed with relative inaction, allowing Adrian to bury his face into Howitzer's mane. He'd fallen asleep for a short while, only to wake up sprawled on all fours in the snow, having fallen off his arcanine. It left him quite rattled.

"W-wha?" The frigid nip of snow against bare skin had him alert, as he rolled onto his back and sat upright, casting a suspicious glare Howitzer's way. But she was preoccupied with another phantump, jumping excitedly as it tried enticing her to play.

Rolling up a snowball he lobbed it at his arcanine, catching her unawares. "Serves you right," he spat out smugly, only for the dog to bum rush him, flattening him on his back once more. She pressed a paw lightly against his chest, heavy doggy breaths wafting over his face. "Gerroff me, ugh."
