Why was there so much water?

Josh's travels had taken him to the open sea. Giving Fawkes a break for the day, he had decided to bring Dunamus along to surf across the ocean on his way to checking out Mt. Pyre. But he hadn't realized until the Swampert had gotten into the water just... How much water was in Hoenn. Like, there was a TON of it! It didn't seem like so much when you were Flying, but when you were surfing? Dear lord, that was a lot of water.

Josh had decided to give Dunamus a break, and the Swampert would drop the blonde haired Trainer and his Raichu off on a small, sandy patch of land in the middle of the ocean before dredging itself out. Deciding to make the most of the opportunity, Josh had assembled some parts of his camping gear, namely materials for a campfire, and a foldable lounge chair. With that, he had brought out his fishing rod, sat down and casted his line. Lightning and Dunamus sat nearby in the shallow part of the water, staring down into the sea in hopes they might see something.

This is weird. he thought to himself silently as he clung to to a Drakloak who oddly seemed pleased with herself. Resting lazily on top of his head was a small Dreepy that usually would have been found in his position.

It would have been better to have loaned a rideable pokemon to roam Hoenn's vast oceans, but that would have cost money and time. Instead, he took this as an opportunity to "bond" with his pokemon despite various amount of odd looks cast his way. Fortunately, despite finding himself submerged in water, he'd found a place to rest his belongings, keeping it relatively dry for the most part. "Let's take a rest over there, Farasma." he says, pointing over to a relatively small yet occupied patch of land.

Climbing onto the sand, he lets out a low sigh of relief, flipping onto his back as he shows little to no care of his newfound companion's feelings.

Glancing at the fishing rod in the blonde man's hand, a light bulb flashes in his mind as he reaches out to pull out his own fishing rod. Sitting upwards, he smiles at him, giving him a wink in the process as he casts his own line.

"Nice little spot you got there, pal."

Josh had quite nearly fallen asleep soon after his line had been cast. Alone with his Pokemon on a small island, with the sun shining and the weather being a bit less cold than usual here - it was an easy place to fall asleep. But his doze never reached completion, for the sound of a voice snapped him out of his snooze. Josh sat upright as his head darted toward the source of the voice.

"Oh. Yeah, I guess it is" He mumbled sleepily after a few moments of struggling to remember what the man had said. The Raichu wasn't as lucky as his Trained and had fallen asleep already. The Swampert though, was wide awake. Though it would be hard to tell considering how still it was. The indication though would come when Dunamus finally turned its head and stared at the newcomer with the blankest expression possible. Deadpan, nonchalant, nothing but a blank stare.

"Josh. You?" He asked the man after introducing himself, though seconds later his attention would be taken as his line would be yanked downward. Josh didn't hesitate, tugging on the line and trying to reel it in. The sleepiness seemed to wear off quite quickly with adrenaline beginning to course through him. But no matter what he did, the line didn't seem to come up.

"Lightning!" Josh called to the Raichu, who's ears jolted up as the Raichu snapped to attention. Seeming to gauge the situation quickly, Lightning would promptly dive into the water. Soon after, the source of the commotion would be revealed as a Poliwhirl would come up to the surface, the line caught in a tight grip from its large hands. Though the Poliwhirl would be forced to let go due to the Raichu biting on its arm.

The Poliwhirl would attack with Wake Up Slap, sending Lightning flying off. Sensing that it was time to attempt a battle though, Josh would spring up and call a command to Lightning. "Nuzzle!" He called to the Raichu. "Rai!" Lightning called back as the Raichu would angle itself downward, slamming itself headfirst into the Poliwhirl. The impact caused sparks to line across the Poliwhirl, restricting its movements. It was Paralyzed!

"Knock it onto land and use Thunderbolt!" Josh called to Lightning, who would slam itself into Poliwhirl once more in a makeshift charging attack, using the opponent's paralysis as an opportunity to knock it back. With the Poliwhirl now on dry land, Lightning leaped into the air as sparks began to jettison across its cheeks.

"Rai.... CHUUUUUU!" Lightning cried out as a surge of electricity rocketed from it into the Poliwhirl. Acting quickly, Josh came up behind the Poliwhirl and tapped a Pokeball to its back.

The cool ocean breeze is near chilling to the touch, his body still drenched by the ocean depths. He casually plants the handle of his fishing rod deep into the sand as he reaches out for his bag. Flipping its cover he pulls out a still-dry towel and begins drying himself off head first.

He turns his attention to the blonde with an upbeat smile. ”Pierce Black.” he responds to the man’s introduction. He wraps the towel around his neck letting them hang off from his shoulders. Extending his arm back out he firmly grasps onto the fishing rod, yanking it straight out from the sand with one hand as the other pets the Drakloak now lying beside him.

Seeing the man’s reel tug, he draws out a long whistle as the man quickly dispatches the Poliwhirl pulled out from the sea. It’s a good catch, he thinks. His lips widen with a curve in amusement.

He patiently waits for something to bite onto his bait yet as he waits, nothing happens. Instead he glances upwards to the sound of flapping – a majestic white Swanna passing by overhead. His eyes gloss over it with admiration towards its beauty yet he does little to stop it. Passing the two by it flies off into the distance and his eyes gazes back out to the sea.

”Nice Raichu you got there.” he suddenly chimes with a chuckle as he quickly releases his Morpeko from its pokeball. It flops onto the sand laying on its stomach as it groans out in hunger. ”Chumlee, what’re you doing?” The Morpeko pushes itself onto its feet as it turns to fiercely glare at Pierce with sharp red eyes, chiding it with its cries.

Frowning he pulls out a small chocolate bar from his bag and unwraps it quickly. He tosses it to the Morpeko who almost instantly bites down onto mid-air. As it chews the purple in its fur begins to brighten to yellow as the anger turns to jolliness.
