"How does that one phrase go?"

it's on the tip of her tongue as she approaches the table, smiling like a cheshire cat at the blond she spots approaching the same one as her. There's comfort that slips into her posture at the familiar face. "Men of science?" something like that, she'd heard it tossed around once or twice.

"And places like this are some sort of 'matter of the heart', so what exactly are you doing here?" she is teasing of course, and quite possibly using the terms wrong but that wasn't the point. The sight of Gavin Merlino at a speed dating event just didn't match up in her head in the slightest.

Gavin's busy scratching his Lycanroc behind the ears when the clicking of heels draws his gaze upward. He laughs, shaking his head. Of course it would be her.[break][break]

"I'm mingling, my dear." His tone carries an equally teasing cadence. "But if you think I signed up for romance, you would be mistaken."[break][break]

A bowl of Kalosian sweets sits between them on the table, and Gavin unwraps one.[break][break]

"You look radiant tonight, Isra. Surely others haven't been able to contain their thirst."[break][break]

He chuckles, popping the sweet into his mouth.

She almost chuckles at the pet name, stifling the sound before it can make its great escape. A dainty hand covers her mouth just to be on the safe side.

"Thank you, tough one in particular was quite uncouth I'm afraid." she rolls her eyes, speaking River Marx and his lack of manners paired with an attitude he had no right to be carrying while speaking with her. Isra slips into her seat, eyeing the bowl of sweets that sits there but not taking one just yet.

Instead eye narrow on him playfully as her wooloo approaches the wolf of a pokemon. If he's to be afraid of the pokemon he does not show it. Instead the pokemon is given an obnoxious Bah of greeting as it seeks to shake off the weirdness caused by elijah gardner's pokemon.

"So are you just saying that or are you truly too cold and devoted to your work to ever possibly love another." her hand settles over her heart, head tilting in a dramatic manner that can only come from enough familiarity with her to see it peak through. Something usually reserved for her interactions with the fortree gym leader.

"I believe this is the part where I'm supposed to go on some sort of tangent about how love conquers all and some such nonsense, right?"

movies are foreign to her but surely she's been fed enough books to have torn out the pages containing such useless speeches.

Gavin sighs, shaking his head. "Some people really don't know how to conduct themselves in public, do they?"[break][break]

Perhaps it was a byproduct of being raised in an incredibly strict Galarian household, but Gavin couldn't fathom their nerve.[break][break]

The sweet turns out to be lemon flavoured, as he'd hoped, and he rolls it underneath his tongue. Isra's question makes him laugh. He's appreciative of how utterly forward she can be at times.[break][break]

"You, Isra? If you did that, I'd think you were unwell." She didn't seem the sappy, sentimental sort. Another quality he enjoyed. "But to answer your question — I'm not saying its out of the realm of possibility, only that it's never happened thus far. Who knows? Perhaps someone will surprise me."

"They most certainly do not." she reaffirms, appreciating that he understands the importance of good social etiquette even if some others do not. Then again it's part of what makes him acceptable company.

He laughs and Isra considers it an acceptable answer, though the smile on her face can be easily assumed to be just as played up as any other expression the woman wears there's a hint of something genuine in it.

She chuckles. "Good, if I ever do I expect to be put out of my misery." there's a certain frankness to her tone that goes beyond the norm, a genuine disdain for the subject at hand leaking through in the comfortable state of a company she doubts will question her sentiment. "Yes, I suppose someone might regardless, but the real question then is, would you give them the chance?"

She turns her head, narrowing her eyes to eye him out of the corner of her eye in a dramatic and critical flare. It's an over the top play meant to fit with the rest of this ridiculous scrutiny of her fellow rocket, Gavin Merlino.

Gavin mimes crossing his heart in solemn promise, the motion jostling the Archen on his shoulder and causing the bird to let out an indignant squawk.[break][break]

Her dramatics entertain him, and he thinks perhaps his answer might come as a surprise.[break][break]

"Why not?" His shoulders lift in an easy shrug. Archen gives up its perch and flutters down to pester the Lycanroc, instead, who's been doing her best to doze off at his feet. "Anyone who can capture my attention so thoroughly deserves a chance to keep it."

There's an almost pleased grin to be found on her face at his gesture, something she recognizes from a bygone part of her life. It's almost silly to see it again now in such a manner but it tickles her fancy for the moment nonetheless.

"Hmm...." she sits on his answer, eyes drawn by the movement of his pokemon and for the pokemon they are easier to settle on than he is. His answer has most certainly surprised her, but more so in the fact he phrases it in a way that makes sense- that she can't see an immediate flaw in.

It's only the chime ending the round that draws her out of the rabbit hole of her thoughts, because she thinks he might have a bit of a point but she own't dare vocalize that. To agree out loud makes the agreement real and it means she cannot deny the notion later.

"It seems we've run out of time, another night then my dear." she returns the gesture with a playful wink as she rises from her seat. A snap of her fingers draws back the wondering wooloo to her side and they depart for another short lived conversation.
