"Going to have to work together a bit on this—hope your girl doesn't mind a little contact."

Sceptile leaps to the heat of the Gyarados before pushing off in impressive show of force, the movement barely disturbing the fins of the Gyarados. The lithe form of the grass-type slices through the air with as easily as paper, finally landing atop the Altaria.

She clicks her tongue a number of times, repeating pieces of her name as she communicates with her ally. Once she was above the Kyogre—the legendary calling further upon a black-clouded storm above—she drops with a fist encased in lightning, bringing it down on the blubberous whale's head in an explosion of electricity.

"Sceptile attracts electricity! We can probably use that, if you have an electric-type ability!"

MISSION

Greyson felt bad about the trick—it was almost entirely the opposite of what he'd have done typically. That was really why he'd done it. Maybe they wouldn't call him back?

He was relieved knowing that she wouldn't maintain any serious harm—outside of her reputation, maybe, but he could soothe that out.

A squeak of alarm on his shoulder has him snapping his head back in confusion. A small honey badger coated in flame and smoke was barreling right at him.

Was this the Fast-Ball special Wovlerine and Hulk mainstreamed?

Greyson almost laughs, but the threat could not be ignored. "Tubby!" Lifting the mouse in the same way, Greyson tosses the chubby electric-type. As the two Pokémon reach collision space, a SPIKY SHIELD erupts around Tubby.

Of course, that did nothing for any momentum. If the collision continued as planned, Greyson would watch with mild-horror and amusement as his Pokémon went rebounding off the trail.

Something tugs at him. A voice, melodic and wistful, urges him forward—deeper into the abyss.

This type of thing wasn't unnatural to Greyson—his Sygna Suit and consistent reliance on a Delphox made intrusions into his mind more than common enough; nevertheless, his curiosity wins through.

Without stopping to warn the duo, he makes his way deeper into the abyss.

Gouging Fire's roar shakes the room again as pain blossoms. It burned in a way that went beyond typing.

It simply would not do.

Pressure pushes him back, face and shield low to take the brunt, but his anger was a RAGING FURY.

Greyson leans against the wall of his cell, Naomi Sato stirring in the cot nearby, and simply exists. He doesn't even have the energy to lick dry lips.

When sleep takes him once more, he's visited by small, floating Pokémon. It warns him of what's to come; a glimmer of hope that, when he surges away hours later, gives him the energy to stand.

There was a chance. That's all he needed.

The day continues with little difference and, despite newfound optimism, he begins to worry.

Then all hell breaks loose.

DESIRES MANIFEST all around him as the wishes of the confined are brought forth into reality. His own bubbles in the back of his mind, and taking a moment to investigate it, Greyson understands.

For months now he'd be suppressing everything. His anger, his grief, his fear — everything. And for what reason? Why shouldn't he embrace the maelstrom that spun in his chest? Why shouldn't his enemies? It made him weaker, doubting his own abilities, suppressing his confidence and experience.

It stood to reason it affect them the same.

AN AMETHYST SPHERE OF POWER ERUPTS AROUND HIM. It suppresses, it siphons, it consumes. He was an void; an endless chasm; an unquenchable hunger.

Let his enemies strength be his — all the more satisfying to crush them with it.

"We should leave," he tells Naomi Sato, already moving to the lower floors.

He pulls a stool out, throwing his legs over until one set of toes hooks beneath the footrest. He eyes the mead with narrowing eyes, but accepts the offer.

With the flick of another wrist he sends the Iron Valiant out. Her scarlet armor glimmers beneath the light.

"Not much, the usual." He didn't want to admit his own mental weakness had led to him stagnating on multiple fronts. Even now, this challenge, it consumed time he would need to catch up on other avenues; nevertheless, it was a step forwarded he needed to accomplish.

"Going through the gauntlet just took a lower priority to everything else. But, I figure, I got some time now, so why not?"

The Annalise in-front of him was a far cry from the woman she'd been months prior. Her spine was steel and Greyson had no doubt she would be true to her word if he'd left.

She had him raked over the coals.

"Fine, fine." He says, taking a deep breath. "Just for tonight, okay?"

The adrenaline begins to die down once more. Where it leaves only pain, soreness, and exhausted remain.

The fear in her eyes sends him reeling, his grip loosening, before crumbling all together.

He takes a step back, feeling his breath quicken. His head feels light, but he pushes through it.

Not her. It won't get her.

"No one can know you're involved. Okay?" He looks at the pool of blood as if seeing it for the first time; the ruined living room; ruined clothing. "Fuck, fuck."

Necrozma was death itself, and worse, it'd chosen someone. They could be anyone.

"Promise me. You won't say a word." The fear and confusion reflected back at him hurts worse than nearly being disemboweled, but his own pain meant nothing.

"Promise me."
