The arena rumbles with effort, rocks exploding outward. They shoot like torpedos and it takes effort to not get slashed apart by them. Araquanid's REFLECT still holds, managing to keep some of the damage at bay. But it is not enough and never could be, and neither she nor Sobble are fully prepared for the STONE EDGE in the water.[break][break]

With all of the damage taken, Araquanid is forced to shoot forward, fangs extended to LEECH LIFE on the Kabutops when it nears. Armaldo is locked in combat with Surskit, jostling the tiny spider out of her prior AQUA JET.[break][break]

Should there be a window, Sobble attempts to take it through shimmering tears(albeit hidden given their underwater environment). It sprays water forward, attempting to SOAK the Kabutops before Araquanid can reach it. If it worked, it might aid Araquanid in replenishing more strength.[break][break]

Surskit attempts to fight off the Armaldo with a BUG BITE, latching on and not letting go. For now, none of them appear to notice the Golisopod RAZOR SHELLING his way through the rocks. He is hidden and out of sight, therefore unnoticed.[break][break]

Emma's lips part, and although she is a bit late to respond, she still does.[break][break]

But not entirely. She did have a Beedrill she was quite fond of.

The temperature has dropped since they'd entered. It isn't cold, but cool enough to surprise her flushed skin. Frankly, it's refreshing.

Emma breathes in deeply, even if the smell of the city was less than favorable. It is far better than the heavily perfumed casino, coiled with alcohol and food.

Theo jostles a pack of cigarettes and their smell draws her attention. She takes one, watching him carefully while he looks around. It shouldn't surprise her that he remembers which direction she had come from, but it does.

"Do you have a light?"

Emma lets go as soon as she is on her feet, however, turning aside.

She hums a bit, a muted note of humor. Her use of his name had been a slip of the tongue, but it didn't feel out of place. 'Anna' regards him for a moment, even if she can't perceive the details in his face. Does he still look the same as he had?[break][break]

There is a free field up ahead, coincidentally. Or perhaps he had already had it reserved and happened to find her along the way.

Even though her attention seems the slightest bit unsteady, she scans his face for hidden intent. He is, as usual, unreadable. Or perhaps she simply isn't looking in the right place, not picking up on his subtleness.

Or maybe there is nothing to find at all.

There is a pause, and she finishes her glass of wine.

"Why do you want to walk?"

More specifically, with her? What was he playing at?

The Togekiss and Mothim both fall- signaling their win and the NPC's loss. Perfect.[break][break]

Crobat begins to fly erratically, chest swelling with overconfidence and SWAGGER at it falls victim to the Unfezant's ploy. The bat grows in strength, but at the cost of her mental capacity to see reason. CONFUSED, the bat begins to spiral, unsure which way is up.[break][break]

What was the point in a long battery life if you couldn't access the internet or view images at a decent quality? If your phone lagged at any given time or wasn't able to compete with the newer, glass-screen touch ones?

She suspects he doesn't care for anything like that, though.

There is a dramatic, slow-blink, encouraged by the alcohol in her system.

"Is that.. a flip phone? Are you serious, Theo?"

Somewhere in her purse is a smartphone. No phone case, no recognizable markings or details- but far better tech than the ancient thing of the past he wielded. It hardly occurs to her that it could be for work, or a burner, or anything like that.

He also wields it with too much familiarity.

But his question brings her to pause and collect herself. She reigns in her enthusiasm and quiets. She isn't awkward, necessarily, but his familiarity with her continues to catch her off-guard.

"I... did. Thank you."

The night goes on, and on, and on- but it does not drag.

In fact, on more than one occasion, Emma finds herself laughing. Not just in Theo's presence, but at the environment she's surrounded by. Win after win after win- at some point she has to wonder if he's throwing. But it doesn't seem to matter in the end when her attention wanders and her glass of wine leaves her warm.

Emma sets her jaw, uncertain. Her attention drifts to the battle, watching as the Umbreon falls victim to the AQUA TAIL. Where he crumbles, Copperajah steps back in. The HYPER BEAM that ensues, rupturing from the elephants maw, rips through the battlefield. It disperses sand and stone, accidentally frying a nearby umbrella- thankfully no one was nearby.[break][break]

In the process, it even breaks Inteleon's perch, and the Pokemon falls into the sand as well.[break][break]

But the show must go on, and so this time Umbreon returns, hot on the Spiritomb's heels. Dark energy manifests in its teeth as it aims to bite down, through the distorted purple and green face to CRUNCH the rock base.[break][break]

"I don't."[break][break]

A lie.[break][break]

But was it?[break][break]

Further, the knife twists. Her attention lingers a moment longer, drawn in by his smile. She looks away, feeling breathless.

All three of them are incredibly fast- which is to be expected. Once upon a time, two of the three were apex predators. Golisopod was and continued to be a predator as well. [break][break]

Before the hits all land, Araquanid steps into the way in an attempt to protect the Sobble in the back. Quick as a whip, a barrier of REFLECT is thrown up, prepared to lessen the damage incoming. [break][break]

RAIN DANCE is meekly performed by a shy little Sobble in the back as it tucks itself under the legs of the gigantic water-spider. [break][break]

And as each Pokemon crashes into the reflective barrier to strike at them, Sobble would be the last one hit. Araquanid takes the brunt of it all, acting as the larger, tougher protector. DRILL RUN and the AQUA JET specifically are slowed by the REFLECT. It is the RAPID SPIN that catches them all off-guard. It strikes SURSKIT, prompting the little spider to spin out of control deeper into the pool, separating it.[break][break]

Sobble remains virtually unharmed, for now.[break][break]

And Surskit, recovering with its RAIN DISH, proceeds to AQUA JET back into the fray, planning to barrel straight through them all in similar fashion the opponent had done, previously.
