"would you come on!" mateo retorted, waving the controller wildly as if prepping to chuck it. and just as she were on her way, the lights went out. the power dying so suddenly, unexpectedly. standing up, it would take bit for his eyes to adjust to the dark. "there's no way the generators would fail like that." not to mention the backup generator wasn't turning on.

"i swear to god if this has anything to do with, chance." he'd open the door, exiting into the dark corridor. whether noelle chose to follow him or remain where she were didn't concern him at the moment. he'd faith she'd be fine, after all. the moonlight was out, so they had some light to work with as white light peeked through corridor windows. it was still dark out. "yo, chance! are you serious right now?" he'd come to turn a corner.

it wasn't until a sudden shriek was heard that he'd pause in is step. "what the--?!" the shriek sounded somewhat human yet inhumane. he wasn't exactly able to make it out properly, but he knew enough that it was terrifying nonetheless. "where did that come from? that scream sounded like it came from every direction..." at this point he was gonna have to call for dragonite.

"saved by the shell, i'll take that." it was done and over. it was a chill day. there wasn't much to be done but roam about their home. where were the others? no idea. they weren't much of his concern. mateo was casually training only to have been interrupted by a bored noelle. gradually accepting, due to the fact that he held doubt she'd leave him alone, he decided to entertain her.

"i don't call myself the 'lucky dragon' for nothin'!" a confidant, the night was going well. as a pillow was thrown into his face, their then came a sudden knock. "a knock?" looking toward the window. he'd come to open the window. looking around, he saw nothing. mateo would close it after checking.

"maybe it was one of the maids walking by." he informed after his small look. "i didn't see anything. this house has a bunch of people every now and then, if it's not a family member or a caretaker, it's probably one of the dragons crawling about." it wasn't their problem. so he'd wave the right palm of his hand lazily about, "come get your ass handed in round two, if i win you can treat me to some meat buns!" his mouth began to water as he imagined the taste.

with bryony on her way, mateo moved forward.

he'd travel through the floor. guided by noivern, they would come to reach something...big and bright: celesteela and, what looked to be, an emerald orb. mateo would come to see that, before the orb, there resided what looked to be a--"giant woman?!" no, it was a giant female pokemon. he was shocked.

"what's that...?" he looked at the orb with fascination. "noivern, we're goin' for that orb." he wasn't sure what was happening, but that was something he couldn't pass up. plus, it'd be something nice to bring back to the family estate. "ready?" noivern cried, "TAILWIND!" gathering a gust of speed, they would maneuver like a dragonfly.

soaring with heightened speed, mateo would attempt to interrupt the celesteela's attention by snagging the orb that resided before her. by tightening his leg on both sides of noivern, and with a firm grip, he'd open his back. ready to snatch the emerald with a solid, "yoink!" attempting to maneuver upward, "keep it steady and use your AGILITY!" he'd no desire to be snagged by the bug bodied woman.

notes:

- snatch and grabs the orb.
- noivern uses tailwind + agility.

talk about annoying.

"to see you taking on a case like this is out of the ordinary..." normally this is something mateo would be more willing to do. but he didn't have the necessities to hunt down a hidden enemy. the fact kyle was planning to do this on his own is astonishing, "well, i can't fault you." winding up his arm a grin would form. "i'm pretty enthusiastic about this!" too bad he didn't have his cape and left it back home.

it was hero time. as they hid together with kyle, he'd look to noelle, and said, "don't get in our way, airhead. this is official league business, if anything you're our backup!" an index finger was thrown her way, "don't get in our way, noe!!" and then to kyle, he'd say with a growl, "you got a game plan, dog boy?" he asked, ready to call out a member of his team at the drop of a hat.

note: idk what i wrote. just making convo.

"there's..." eyes drifted slowly upward, only to reveal an unfathomable amount of the creatures. "...so many of them!" he was appalled. their path to walk would lead them toward their destination, but served as a longer route. but if they were to fly? the possibility of reaching the top faster would prove most logical.

sadly, their path via flight would prove to be a bit difficult. mateo stood for a moment, only to, right after, look toward bryony as he thought about her health. "not only do they have different sizes, but they don't seem hostile...for now." unless it was a test, should they choose to fly there was a chance of them being attacked. if they choose to walk up the tower, there's also a chance of them avoiding potential conflict with the creatures.

"nothing ventured, nothing gained..." mateo would stop, turning toward the group. "alright everyone, we're gonna try to fly through them." turning toward his charizard, he'd return it. replacing charizard would now come NOIVERN. mateo, with a determined look, grinned with excitement. "get your best flyers out team, we're heading up; got it, delphi?!" pointing upward and yelling toward his male comrade, mateo would turn toward @bryony, "if you don't feel comfortable flying through them, you can ride my arcanine up the steps. that way, should they attack, they'll most likely ignore you. plus, with arcanine's speed, you'd probably reach the top before us."

notes: ! ! !

- mateo has chosen to fly, recalled charizard and brought out noivern.
- offered bryony a chance to ride on kyle the arcanine upstairs. should she accept, he'll call out arcanine for her while they fly through the weird paper bodied pokemon.

thinking long and hard. they'd no reason to physically harm. there was no provocation and it was simply ignoring them, what was mateo's solution?

"we keep going." mateo said, passing by delphi. "it doesn't have any reason to attack us, and it doesn't respond to anything we say." this was nothing more than a waste of time. "we're not pokemon researchers and it's not our job to understand every single pokemon we cross paths with." he'd come to halt, turning back toward it, "although, i am pretty curious..."

the pokemon held some resemblance to the trio back at the beach. was it a coincidence? mateo wasn't sure. "never mind, let's keep going. charizard, let's go!" he called, turning toward bryony, "let's keep going, bry!" a smile was given toward @bryony.

he didn't even want to do this. he had better things to do then this. it wasn't until they were caught that the cat was out of the bag.

pinching the bridge of his nose, he wondered why did he come along for this ride. "of all the things we could be doing." mateo would catch up to the pair. standing behind with a look of boredom. he wasn't exactly sure what noelle was on a spiel about, but he didn't know the full on details. this was his day off, sadly he didn't see himself spending his free time on this.

"i doubt this walking mutt and his pack would die." ghosts weren't real. mateo never saw one before, so he had full doubt toward their existence. but that didn't mean those around him shared his exact same thoughts. "since you've figured us out, mind tellin' us where the hell you're going?"

a hand was placed atop of Noelle Lane's head. "this ball of dragon fire was too eager and worried about you. i tried to tell her you had this, but..." massaging the nape of his neck, a sigh escaped his maw. "i'm guessing this is about that pied piper case?"

mateo made sure to check back for bryony's well-being every now and then. to ensure she was doing well. he made sure to watch out for the pair, but delphi seemed more ecstatic than tired. the climb was nothing for mateo, he trained his body for moments like this. but, even so, he was human and grew winded at times. it was a blessing his stamina could handle it.

though their eyes were acclimated to the darkness. they could still use some light, MATEO WOULD CALL OUT CHARIZARD in place of his dragonite for light. the flame of his tail gave them the light source needed. with umbreon and charizard, they had all the light they could need. delphi, soon after, spoke. "speak for yourself," mateo replied.

it was then an unexpected surprise came. bryony said her piece, delphi continued his usual rambling. as delphi spoke for the group, mateo would look back to the papier-mâché. a hand was brought to the nape of his neck as he possessed a disinterested look, "it doesn't look harmful. if it were harmful it'd attack us, no questions asked." it was just an assumption. charizard was ready for a brawl if it came down to it.

rubbing his back. mateo would say, "down boy." though, he wondered, was it possibly just randomly passing by or scoping them out for the thing that shot them earlier. "you some kind of guard?" mateo would step in front of delphi and bryony, just in case anything bad unpleasant happened.

thinking about the question she asked. he'd come to realize that that was a no-brainer. with a jovial response he'd say, "it's kind of my job to be strong. well, it recently became my job. actually, it was something i did before joining the league. i was just a freelancer doin' my own thing, met the commissioner, and she saw my potential i guess." a bellowing laughter was expelled.

finally, he'd answer her question, "i'm a member of the elite four!" he probably didn't look the part at the moment, but he was. "in a sense i work for them i guess, but i don't do, or really get rather, the whole science aspect. i know some of the people in the other departments though." he never interacted with lucas lane. maybe past him by in the halls every now and then, but nothing worth notable mention.

"he's the discoverer of mega stones if i recall. the guys done a lot for the league." a hand was brought to his chin. trying to figure out what else he knew about the man. "he was also featured in a magazine as one of the top five most eligible bachelors next to that popular councilman, fernando??" anything else and he was pretty clueless on the guy.

"nonetheless, everyone back the league is pretty amazing!" spreading his arms wide and far, he'd showcase how much he held his trust within them. "if you ever need help or anything, don't hesitate to stop by. just ask for me and i'll be their, illeana." a beaming smile given. mateo would ensure her that she had a friend in him. "thinking about it, you're like me. where science runs in your family, dragon taming runs in mine. do you love studying pokemon? is it something you wanna do or do you feel like it's an obligation?"

"that's unexpected." mateo also commented. surprised to see the appearance of a gabite, he'd apologize internally with having to harm it. "aqua tail, brine, hydro pump!" orders issued, they'd follow up to deal with the dragon-types before them. "what the hell's so important about that center, anyway..." whoever was the one pulling strings, it'd better be for a good reason.

it was weird for any pokemon to take shelter in highly populated area by humans. so maybe the one pulling the strings here was a human, but then again you could never underestimate a pokemon to be behind it. either way, mateo was excited to uncover the mystery. it was like one of those fancy rpg's kyle let him borrow.

dusting his hands off. mateo and his team stood in the hallway as a flurry of bug-types were rendered unconscious. high-fiving his team, he'd listen to the information being given. "nice, they took care of the civilian." little did mateo and the gang know that, on their part of the floor, there was a vespiquen infuriated by the harm that came to her children.

"alright, we'll meet you losers downstairs--" it was then that mateo felt a sudden push as he was tossed into a random opened apartment. "gah!" landing upon the floor, a vespiquen would come to shoot a poison stinger into dragonite's shoulder. luckily, with safeguard on, he was fine and uninfected by the poison.

it was then an ATTACK ORDER had been issued. the pokemon who were still alive and atop of the roof began to swarm the floor dragonite and company were upon. they were all, by force, lunged toward dragonite. dog-piling him with great weight, he'd come crashing through the floor kyle and adam were on.

the vespiquen followed.

contacting the duo underneath them, he'd say, "it's the vespiquen! she's the one in charge, dragonite could use some back up!" as dragonite was buried underneath a mass high-volume of bugs, he'd struggle to toss one after another off. with a THUNDER WAVE, he'd paralyze the incessant critters who would all slowly fall off of him. sadly, he was covered in a lot of sticky webs. so it'd take a while for the dragon-type to get out of.

with eevee at mateo's side, they'd search for the vespiquen. she was no longer on his floor and had gone down the hole that was made by dragonite. hovering over the dragon-type, she'd stand before kyle and adam. ready for a battle if they chose to get in her way; though, even if they didn't, she was going to get payback for what adam had done to her loyal servant ariados.

"so our target is the pokemon center then, alright!" he'd drop the piplup only for it to run back and latch on his right calf. a grunt was given, but nonetheless he'd look to frogadier and goodra. "we'll be assisting from the side and following your lead." so with that being said and done, adam would take the lead on this.

on their way to the center, they'd assist anyway they could by dowsing fire in their path. anything that caught their attention, mateo would order them follow kyle's lead and assist in putting out anything set ablaze. "you'd think this region would have a water-type gym leader for situations like this..." mateo thought aloud.
