"honestly, that battle was pretty embarrassing." she had such a wild style compared to fernando's tactical prowess. "compared to him you're not much of a battler, are you?" recalling their gym battle. he remembered him saying this catchphrase.

"yeah, no way you're related." he had no idea as to whether they were or weren't. it was just a matter of how different their way. "from personality, etiquette, and battle style? he absorbed all the good genes, didn't he?" mateo would let out a light chuckle. surprisingly finding her way more amusing than fernando. "you inherited the fun genes, i can tell."

[attr="class","light"]was he working with a toddler!? in no way were they related. she had the mind of a kindergartener. he wasn't sure if there was much he could do. "fine," pulling out his phone, he'd hit the record button. "if you lose, i'm sendin' this to 'nando. so you better win, pipsqueak!" an evil grin was formed. he didn't exactly care whether she won or lost, but he was interested to see if she had the ability to battle just like her brother.

with a laugh, he'd then say, "man that was a battle, i wonder who's next!" it was then heard . "haha, that person has the same name as..." wait, 'silph'? there were only a handful of those running around hoenn. slowly, mateo would turn around to face a newcomer, "...you."

that was chaot this entire time.

normally, sceptile was the smart one between the pair. but to have fallen for such a trap was expected of dragonite, with sceptile? that was a bit of a shock. "why the hell are you two asleep!?" the chatot would utter 'wow' once more, "shut up!" he growled. leaving the pair behind he'd head downstairs to meet from the crowd.

once mateo arrived, he'd shout, "yui! the hell are you doin'!?" he shouted over the railing. "i don't care if you're a 'silph', you're a pain in my ass more like it. get out of there!"

"yeah," he responded with a side groan. he just wanted this to be over already. sceptile and dragonite stared at one another with confusion as the hyperactive blonde examined them. "seriously, kyle could have done this or some random ranger." he understood many had their hands time, but he could have bothered anyone else for this matter.

it was time for then to go in. mateo followed behind yui. once they were inside, he'd come to notice their private abode. "sweet dig," he said aloud. the pokemon down below were currently going at it. mateo quickly ran to watch the seen, wooden clogs reverberating with each excited step. "maybe this was worth it, after all!" a starry-eyed gaze was enough to express his enjoyment.

"i can see why he picked me, you're the best 'nando!" mateo uttered in the midst of shedding joyful tears.

traveling the world? wasn't she a gym leader for this region? how did she even find the time to do that. "so are you only here temporarily?" he'd ask inquisitively. "being a gym leader and all, shit must be tough to balance all of that." he didn't think too much of it. it was just a really weird situation to be in.

he uttered from behind the girl. once she turned she would come to witness mateo's attire consist of a jinbei look. his hair, normally tall and spiky, had been held back by a hairband. this was his casual look for today's festival. behind him stood his trusted sceptile and dragonite, long time partners since birth.

"you must be 'nando's new gal, yui?" he was told about them being a pigtailed blonde. so this must be her. "i'm just here to chaperone, so don't go gettin' any idea of running off. sceptile and dragonite will catch you before you can," he warned her. hopefully this mission wouldn't be a drag. but he was being paid, so it was worth the hassle. "the hell d'ya need a babysitter for, anyway?"

"sucks, couldn't make it. i offered her a ticket, but she turned it down cause of work." she should really learn to take a break more.

it was then showed up. waving to him, mateo would call out the brunet. "yoooo!" nice, he made it. "we were just talkin', nice job makin' it in time. you excited to see the aces of hoenn this year?" turning to fernando, he'd say with a cheeky grin, "'nando here doesn't exactly think they're 'elite' tier!" as mateo took his seat, he'd continue on with his spiel.

"this is where they earn that tier. it's a place for aces to go against aces! come on, 'nando! be a lil more excited, you're gonna get to witness the future of hoenn's protectors!" and mateo's next challengers. man he was so upset to have missed out on the sign-ups. "i wanted to participate."

[attr="class","light"]he made it sound as if they weren't as close compared to mateo and his mom. if anything he wished she'd lay off the constant bombardment of calls. he understood as to why she did it though, and he was okay with that. it was nice having her check-in every now and then.

"why not buy something for her, too?"

another souvenir from a close-friend would make her even more ecstatic. "it's not like you're a stranger to her, if anything you're like a second son to her with how much i talk to her about you." he was apart of his family. with noelle, chance, and everyone else gone. the estate felt empty, but that wasn't something mateo would admit.

"well, you have a second family in johto. so now you also have to get her a gift!" and that figurine of rayquaza was going to be mateo's. "you should try reaching out to your family sometime though."

"oh, 'nando!" he waved toward the councilman as if he were a casual friend. meeting him halfway, he'd ask about . "he's running a little late, guy might not show at all actually." massaging the back of his neck, he wondered if he was coming at all. maybe he got busy?

"anyway, the new aces of hoenn are about to start. we should go grab us a good seat!" pulling out a databook. mateo read through the information containing this year's challengers. "i heard all of these guys were pretty strong, there's even one mystery kid that people are saying looks at exactly like you." there was no picture beside his name though.

"they call him 'kaiba'? and there's this one other guy named 'seto'? apparently he's some sort of battle genius or somethin'." there were a lot of interesting trainers coming to make a name for themselves at the ever grande tournament. rumor even had it that they were planning to bring the winner a chance to challenge hoenn's champion for their title. "i wonder if will be here, ya think?"

[attr="class","light"]he would pocket the spoils earned from the first obstacle. with one issue out of the way did a new one spawn. mateo would call out garchomp to assist in DRAGON RUSHing him through the path. as mateo climbed upon the back of his dragon, he'd give the signal to use the move and rocket launch them over the spike trap.

"you know this figurine would actually work," he responded. "ever since she was introduced to anime she couldn't exactly stop talking about it. it actually worried the shrie maidens with how addicted she became." he wondered who he had to blame for that.

"but this figurine of rayquaza," he'd carefully pick it up. "this would definitely make her happy." it would remind her of both him and his late father. "i think it'll even make her cry." turning to kyle, he'd ask, "you know, you don't talk about your parents much now that i think about it." were they even human?
