"Nonsense!" Florian cries. "I think you look very cute! Besides, I have seen so much worse tonight."

Joli trills as Alexei greets him, and Florian offers a broad smile at the question.

"Oh, of course! He loves the attention. Don't you, darling?"

Another chipper, high-pitched sound, and Joli steps up to butt against the gym leader's hand and graze his feelers along Alexei's arm. True to Florian's words, the Sylveon was a sucker for any kind of positive attention. He may have been a support Pokemon, but Florian would never expect him to be hands-off.

A cold wind blows through the ball, then, and Florian shudders against it. His suit is not made to withstand such weather, and he'd left his jacket and winter accessories up in his room. He shakes his head to indicate he doesn't mind the closeness, admittedly grateful for it as he turns his head toward the extinguished hearth.

Several people, Alexei included, are directing their Pokemon to reignite the flames. Having no access to such options, Florian instead sends out a Cottonee who drifts sleepily on the chilly breeze and blinks at him.

"Can you strengthen the sunlight, dear?"

Elodie chirps, her fluffy body beginning to glow as the room brightens a little under the effects of a sunny day. It wasn't much, but Florian hoped it might bolster the energy of the fire-types attempting to rectify their situation.

The wine he's holding isn't doing anything for the cold, so Florian opts to mirror Alexei with a mug of hot cocoa, cupping his hands around it. "And to think I hoped this would be a night of warmth and dancing," he laughs, not seeming put out in the least. "For a region without winter, this season has had cold to rival Snowbelle!"

tl;dr
- shivering in the cold, conversing with Alexei Ivanov
- has no fire-type moves, but COTTONEE uses SUNNY DAY to aid the fire-types!
- didn't roll since it doesn't fulfill the goal + it's already beat, but flavour
- huddles next to alexei for warmth :eyes:

This time, Florian's fortunate enough to see the Voltorb before it gets a chance to explode. From afar, it just looks like an over-sized pokeball, except that no pokeball had ever suddenly changed direction and started to rollout towards him before.[break][break]

"Merde," he curses, alarmed. "Laverre, go!"[break][break]

It's a bit of a struggle to mount up while he's panicking, but Florian barely managing to scramble onto his Rapidash and cling on for dear life as she bolts down the path. Voltorb is fast, but Laverre's adrenaline makes her faster; when the professor chances a look behind them, he can no longer see the red-and-white orb.[break][break]

"I think," he breathes, "we lost it."

Mienshao approaches with a silent sort of grace, quiet enough that Florian doesn't notice until she's practically on top of them. He startles, letting out a soft cry and stumbling back a couple steps, but she doesn't seem to pose a direct threat.[break][break]

Instead, she seems to speak to Joli, Florian watching on as his Sylveon's ears perk up and his little pink tail twitches. He cants his head, flexes his claws, then nods. It's not until the misty terrain starts to spread that Florian realises they'd agreed to a battle; he takes another several paces back to give them room, hand on Joli's pokeball in case things got rough.[break][break]

Mienshao starts with a double slap, repeatedly whipping the Sylveon with the long fur on its arms.[break][break]

Joli stands his ground with a growl, looking more annoyed than injured. He throws up a light screen just as the Mienshao launches an aura sphere, the shimmering barrier further reducing the power of an already ineffective move.[break][break]

As the wild Pokemon leaps into the air, Joli pounces forward and out of the way, leading his foe to high jump kick straight into the ground. Mienshao seems dazed by the impact, and Joli ends the battle by sinking his teeth into the fighting-type for a draining kiss. The Sylveon seems to perk up, his energy restored, and the Mienshao remains on the ground.[break][break]

"Well, I think we know who won," Florian tells his partner warmly. He pulls out a pokeball and taps the Mienshao with it. "Time to head home."

He mistakes the Galarian Darumaka for a snowball, at first. It's curled up in a drift and completely still.[break][break]

"Did someone start a snowman and forget to finish?"[break][break]

Florian approaches the suspicious mound and startles when he goes to lay a hand on it and it unfurls and begins to jump up and down. He's so stunned he's not sure how to react at first, but giggles when the Pokemon begins to roll up balls of snow. It's making a miniature snowman, he realises, and thinks that might be the cutest thing ever.[break][break]

He decides to help, roping Joli into helping him roll the ever-increasing weight of the base until it's at a size they're satisfied with. He's careful when lifting the midsection, not wanting to drop it and ruin all of that hard work.[break][break]

He's about to start rolling snow for the head when the ice-type leaps onto the snow-structure, wriggling its little arms gleefully as it stands in for the top snowball.[break][break]

"You are an artist," he tells it.[break][break]

He and Joli spend a bit more time with the Pokemon before it seems tuckered out and falls asleep on top of the mound. They leave it in peace, Florian depositing a couple of berries in the snow next to it as a present for when it wakes up.

Florian grins, glad that they appear to share a similar mindset. "Exactly! To go out, to experience the world... the experience is reward enough! Though the price of Pokefood is exorbitant, I agree!"[break][break]

He wanted nothing but the best for his little darlings, so naturally Florian spent very little money on himself and a lot on his Pokemon. He, too, camped out in the wild more often than not... but for the professor, it was choice rather than necessity.[break][break]

Annie's apparently never seen a Florges before; Florian's already pulling out his Pokedex to show her when she inquires after his memory, and he laughs.[break][break]

"Years and years of experience!" he tells her truthfully. "The Pokedex is a great help. I have not memorized the name of every Pokemon... but I think I know all the fairies, at least! Like this one, this is Aromatisse! The evolved form of Spritzee!"[break][break]

He gestures to the pink fairy-type on their path, side-by-side with a Glameow.[break][break]

His Pokedex gives a little ding as he turns it on, navigating to the entry for Florges and holding it out for Annie to see the picture. He then swipes a few screens and shows her the picture he'd taken of the strange-coloured one. It's a photo taken from afar and thus not the best quality, but the purple sheen of the leaves is clear.[break][break]

"Fairy and grass types get along beautifully, actually! A couple fairies are grass-type as well! Morelull and Shiinotic from Alola, Cottonee and Whimsicott from Unova!"[break][break]

He's positively glowing as he takes the opportunity to recount all of his knowledge. He was, after all, a massive nerd.

Florian's always been a fan of fairy-types, and Carina is a perfect example of why. They're just so sweet and eager to please! There would always be a few bad apples in the bunch, but nothing could take away from the bond he shared with Pokemon like his Joli and Abeille.[break][break]

"I'm not letting her out of my sight," Florian reassures Alexei. "One heart attack is enough for today!"[break][break]

Thankfully, Abeille seems content to stick with Florian under the promise of seeding a new garden, settling down in the fur between his Sylveon's ears and making Joli go cross-eyed trying to look up at her. It's a sight as ridiculous as it is adorable.[break][break]

"Is that the park?" Florian guesses, gesturing. He can already detect a floral aroma in the air, and he hears a faint-but-excited buzzing from Abeille's direction. "It looks lovely, even from here!"

Florian giggles as the Wooloo laps up the attention given, grinning at Alexei at the question asked. "I would!"[break][break]

What other Wooloo could cause such a stir simply by existing? It was a little troublemaker, that much was certain, but Florian adored it all the more for its little quirks. "What a cute little crown you've given it," he croons, watching Alexei straighten it out. "Have you named it?"[break][break]

Florian tends to name everything — unless he has intentions of trading or gifting it away. Naming things creates an attachment, and he finds it so much harder to part ways with a beloved Pokemon upon whom he's bestowed a nickname![break][break]

"If you haven't," he giggles, before Alexei answers, "you should name it something royal! Like... like Duchess, or Prince."[break][break]

The Kalosian's eyes light up at the mention of macarons, a devious little smile playing at his lips.[break][break]

"As a matter of fact, monsieur, I do!"[break][break]

He pulls out one of the little sacks of baked goods he'd prepared for this very journey, kept warm by the bag he'd carried them in. The bag was meant for keeping Pokemon eggs warm during travel, but he'd found a secondary use for it![break][break]

"I can make Galettes, too! They are very popular back home in Kalos, have you ever tried one?" He offers up one of the aforementioned pastries, taking another for himself. "I would be more than happy to teach you and your staff!"

He's never actually seen a Quilava in the flesh before! There were pictures, of course, and Pokedex entries, but nothing quite compared to the majesty of the fire-type up close. It doesn't seem all that interested in Florian or his Pokemon, instead snuffling about the ground in search of food.[break][break]

"Joli, hush," Florian whispers, quieting his Sylveon's chirps as he reaches for his Pokedex. "I want to catch it on film!"[break][break]

He knew of a certain contact of his in the research field that would love such footage. Quilava notices Florian as his Pokedex dings, and the professor holds his breath for fear of offending the volcano Pokemon, but thankfully it simply observes him for a moment before going back to its foraging.[break][break]

Saving the video, Florian sends it along to his contact with a little smiley face and no explanation.[break][break]

Quilava, apparently realising there was nothing of much value in the area, takes one last glance at Florian and his Sylveon and departs.

There seems to be a lot of hubbub surrounding a certain councilman. Florian had missed the circumstances under which certain bounties had been placed, but he watches the group from afar in case any interesting new developments were to arise.

He sees Solgaleo, also, not recognizing the Pokemon as the legendary he was, but admiring the leonine grace all the same.

Wine has flushed his cheeks, the blond finding himself in high spirits as the party continues. Joli, his Sylveon, pounces on stray lights cast by the disco ball that was Leo, and Florian's considering asking someone to dance when a familiar face cuts a path through the crowd toward him.

Alexei Ivanov 's fears are unfounded; Florian beams at the gym leader, blue eyes lit with glee upon spotting the sweater.

"Oh, how adorable!" he crows, sincere. "Allo, mon amie! It is good to see you."

He takes another sip of his wine, eyes slipping closed for a moment in content. Sylveon chirps out a greeting to Alexei, recognizing the other man from the times they'd met.

Florian nearly leaps out of his skin at the sudden explosion, tripping over his own feet in his haste to stand up from where he'd knelt to talk to Chespin. His heart thuds painfully in his chest and he claps a hand over it, letting out a breath.[break][break]

"What was that?"[break][break]

Unbeknownst to him, a Voltorb had also been startled.[break][break]

Sensing Florian's anxiety, Joli wraps his feelers around the professor's arm until his breathing returns to normal and his heart rate slows. He shoots the Sylveon a grateful smile and swipes a sheen of cold sweat from his brow. That had been... unexpected.[break][break]

"Let us move on, then."

Florian finds himself on the same route as the previous week, stripping off his winter jacket as the air grows warmer near the mountain. He slings the coat over his arm and stretches, glad to be rid of the extra layers.[break][break]

"I do hope the snow doesn't last too long," he says to his Sylveon, knowing that Joli can't reply. He trills nevertheless, ribbon-like feelers wrapping around Florian's hand. It's comforting, and he smiles. "It is pretty, but this weather is destroying my poor garden."[break][break]

Abeille had been particularly distressed; his Ribombee was the garden's caretaker, after all, and it upset her to see the fragile flowers claimed by frost. At least Alexei had helped secure a large supply of seeds. Florian would simply have to replant the garden once the snows deigned to melt.[break][break]

"Let's take a break here," he decides, sitting on a nearby rock. "We have been walking a while, no?"

The Cinccino is a welcome sight after the chaos with the Grapploct; Florian offers it a smile as he bends down to fuss over his Sylveon. Joli is stubborn at the best of times, and he trills and tries to pull away from his trainer's mothering in spite of being in evident pain.[break][break]

"Be still, would you darling?"[break][break]

After checking his partner over for serious injuries and discovering that most were superficial, he scratches the Sylveon behind the ears in silent apology and offers both a Potion and a handful of oran berries.[break][break]

"Let's go home," he decides, ignoring the reproachful look from Joli. "I think we've had enough excitement for one day."[break][break]

A quiet chirp from the Cinccino and Florian turns his head, curious. "Did you want to come, too?" He laughs, holding out a Pokeball as he gives it a friendly scratch. Joli twitches his pink tail in greeting. "If you're sure."

Chespin catches his attention immediately.[break][break]

Though Florian himself had always been most partial to the adorable Fennekin and its evolutionary line, he had a soft spot for all of the Kalosian starters. He'd never taken a traditional Pokemon journey path himself, what with meeting a professor and accepting a Pokemon to go out and explore with, but he'd grown up seeing many friends and neighbours do exactly that.[break][break]

This one seems particularly feisty, battling a dead branch as if it were the most dangerous of foe. He tries to hide a giggle behind his hand, but the Chespin hears and turns to look at him.[break][break]

"I'm sorry," he says, quite sincere. "You are just very cute."[break][break]

She folds her arms at him in defiance, apparently offended.[break][break]

"Tough, then?"[break][break]

She seems satisfied by this answer.[break][break]

"I could use someone like you," he invites; the Chespin looks suspicious, but doesn't move from where it's gripped its wooden foe with a vine whip. "Many of my darlings would love a big, strong protector."[break][break]

She chitters at him, full of pride from the compliment.[break][break]

"Is that a yes?" he asks, holding out a Safari Ball.
