The STENCH given off by so many poison-types congregated beneath Lilycove is overwhelming; Gavin finds himself grateful for the gas mask that he wears, even if his filtered breathing echoes through the sewers. LIQUID OOZE squelches underfoot, thankfully lacking the properties of CORROSION. Along one side, a strip of maintenance lights flicker and give off an eerie glow.[break][break]

He and Marcel are here on Rocket business, not to help but to hinder the League's effort at purging the poison from their streets.[break][break]

"Lead the way," the underboss instucts; he's smirking beneath his mask. "We should be getting close to where we're deploying these things."[break][break]

In a bag slung over his shoulder, the capsules of several black market poison-types rustle and tumble into one another.

Marcel's Salazzle proves useful in its ability to traverse the toxic sewer tunnel. Lacking many poison-types of his own, Gavin relies upon steel in their place: a Klefki jingles on his belt, dormant but prepared in case of danger.[break][break]

A low groan in the distance sees Gavin pause in his stride.[break][break]

Whether they had caused the noise or were simply drawn out by it, a gathering of Grimer — led by a much larger Muk — find form amidst the sewage. Gavin tenses, expecting a fight, but these Pokemon appear to be dormant. Perhaps they were remnants of the last batch dumped here by Rocket agents.

When it becomes apparent that the sentient sludge plans no attack, Gavin offers a curt nod to Marcel and moves on. Their footsteps echo in the long, winding tunnels... and theirs are not the only ones. Eyes widening, he gives Marcel a signal they'd devised together: hide.[break][break]

Gavin's Klefki is quick to unlock one of the access tunnels, and Gavin has his Rotom short out the lights above to plunge the area into shadow. A beam of light dances along the floor from the direction of the footsteps.[break][break]

"Who's down here? Show yourselves."

We need to take them out.

The screen on his phone is dim, and he holds it up for Marcel to read. Marcel was one of the few who knew that Gavin was always armed, but he doesn't reach for his gun. This didn't need to turn lethal.[break][break]

Gavin's breath is filtered through the gas mask, protecting him from the poison that seeps through the sewer. The men who'd make the mistake of stumbling upon the two during their illicit activity were not so lucky; as he slips through the obscuring smog, Gavin hears them coughing and moaning from where they'd been brought down. Guilt is minimal. This had been the merciful approach.[break][break]

When they've cleared the poisonous haze, Gavin's Klefki detaches from his belt and sets up a FAIRY LOCK; shimmering pink chains stretch across the tunnel, ensuring that those they'd left behind would not be able to make a quick escape or pursuit.[break][break]

"Here," he says at last, and stops.[break][break]

A cross-section in the sewer system provides a larger area for the deployment of their plan. Gavin sets down the heavy bag and unzips it, revealing a number of unlabeled pokeballs. They were poison-types, supposedly, but there was only one way to know for sure. He starts releasing their charges, hastened by the earlier encounter.

Poison-types are released from pokeballs and blend into their toxic environment perfectly, as if they'd always been there. Gavin watches a Grimer all but disappear into the sludge, only its two eyes betraying its presence. Gross.[break][break]

His Rotom casts a flashlight beam around their immediate area until it settles on a locked access port leading up. Klefki does away with the lock gleefully, and Gavin begins to climb.
