a faction-based pokemon roleplay
after the ultra beast war, hoenn begins to heal. the megalopolan invasion may have failed; however, it is clear there is much more at stake. a prophecy revolving around a cyclical meteoroid, the appearance of necrozma and a dangerous and viral alien threaten the safety of the region once more.
with rocket's new boss, the resurgence and reappearance of the crime syndicate's presence is imminent. the league has done its best to repair its reputation, and with the victory of a war under their belt, perhaps it is enough. but the seeds of distrust have already been sown in the ravaged land of this region, causing many to wonder what will grow?
the cold was familiar - a reminder of the days, weeks even, the abbiati had spent locked away in the solitary confinement of snowpoint. perhaps this was the family she sought: the dark, empty abyss. for what was she? void of hope, of life... incapable of bearing life, even. how many of her own had she lost? not just her pokemon, but -
- was this it? the last breath she had stubbornly been holding onto escaped her lips, and as darkness enveloped her vision olivia watched those bubbles rise towards the light...
... and she was gone. swift, powerful arms hugged her tight and brought her through the roaring waves. olivia was out of the worse of it, perhaps but... was she breathing? the swampert held her, yes - but was she cold from the time spent under or had she gone under?
As Orion watches the waves, his weight supported by the Silvally at his side, bubbles rise to the surface. The water ripples from some disturbance far below, and Swampert emerges from the deep... with a body in tow.[break][break]
Shocked out of his stupor, Orion switches gear. When he speaks, it's with the commanding voice of a councilman. "We've got someone in urgent need of medical attention!"[break][break]
Every second could be critical, so he wastes no time before he drops to his knees next to the former councilwoman. There's no response when he shakes her, nor when he calls her name. She's not breathing. His own heart is pounding so loud in his ears that he can barely hear those around him. Immediately, Orion runs through the basic training he'd gone through under the Rangers: rescue breaths, CPR, chest compressions, anything that could possibly help.[break][break]
Kaida watched quietly as Orion Lykos went to the rescue of Olivia Abbiati, but found herself unfortunately not surprised when the woman came up unbreathing. Muspel groaned worryingly, but moved no closer, aware that Kaida's team held no real medical value, and that Kaida was currently too weak to assist in any meaningful way. There was only one thing, "Kjoll. Help call for help." She mumbled as the Onix arrived from his trek down the mountain, Toxicitry and people in tow. [break][break]
She leaned against the warmth of the Charizard as the Onix reared up, and bellowed like a monster. There. That was all they could do, other than warm the populace. "It's ok, Orion, we'll be ok." She tried to assure the man. Whether she lived or not, he had to know they were responsible for all these lives, correct? Even if one was lost, they won plenty.
[attr="class","notes"]notes: Kaida is here! [break][break]
tl;dr: Kaida watches glumly as Orion Lykos tries to help Olivia Abbiati, before ordering Kjoll to roar out to try and get medical attention. Muspel is now a heat source.
Beneath the surface, the water still flows dangerously all around, the currents shifting to and fro with no understandable predictability to them due to their incredibly sudden and tempestuous nature of the water due to Kyogre's arrival. However, deep beneath the waves, Celeste was perfectly suited to open her eyes and watch as Kyogre dived back into the sea.
Desperately holding her breath, Celeste watched in awe as she saw her goddess leap out of the water, only to dive back down with a glorious cry. Before she could even think to attempt to follow, Kyogre swam away down into the darkness of the ocean. As soon as the waters began to recede, Celeste's pokemon quickly surged up towards the surface.
Breaching out of the water on the back of her Wishiwashi, Celeste collapsed against the school of fish as she breathed heavily, taking it all in. The waters level was sinking back to its normal level, the seaside town practically destroyed, but there were still plenty of people on the mountain. With the sight of Olivia Abbiati being dragged back ashore, Celeste's eyes continued to scan around, attempting to find skyler dross . Hopefully, they were somewhere safe.
She would attempt to call out, but everything had absolutely drained her energy. She could hardly breathe, let alone speak. Her exhausted body simply rested atop her pokemon. Those foul invaders were gone, Lilycove and theoretically Hoenn was safe for now. But Kyogre... those markings remained even as they left. Just what was it? It wasn't anything she had seen before.
Gently patting the school, Celeste whispered hoarsely between a few coughs. "T-take... me out to sea. Let me see." They traveled slowly this time, swimming out into the horizon for quite a bit before Celeste patted them to ask them to stop. They were pretty far away from shore now, but all she really wanted was to just be out on the open water away from the troubles of man. "This is fine... Just enough."
With a struggle, Celeste slowly sat up and attempted to get her bearings. She might be alive, but the guilt would inevitably make her feel like she should be dead. With a heavy sigh, the young woman just slowly sat back and looked out across the horizon. The surface of the sea reflecting back the silver moon in the sky, an oddly peaceful sight considering the horrors of war from just before.
Man might find ways to attempt to bend nature to its will, to impose their dominion over its strength and endless power. But nature always has a way of proving men's folly, of taking back what it desired and finding a way to heal. Perhaps, Kyogre needed that time to heal too. "Blessed divine," she began, giving a soft few words of prayer. "Be at peace. Those markings... I will help you. This I swear."
Giving up on trying to sit upright and balance upon the school of fish, Celeste sent out her Wailord beneath her, allowing it to lift her up as she recalled her Wishiwashi instead, letting the school of fish go free. Laying down on her back atop the Wailord, Celeste's eyes gazed up at the sky as she spoke softly to her pokemon. "Do you think... I did the right thing?"
Of course, they couldn't respond in any way she would understand. Her Dhelmise remained quiet, simply floating in the ocean. The Wailord however, let out a soft cry that echoed across the sea briefly. She might not have understood it but the intent was pretty clear to her. Celeste gently patted Tiny's back as she laid there, closing her eyes. "Thank you, big guy..."
Celeste's eyes would remain closed as she floated atop the Wailord, letting the gentle rocking and the ocean breeze cool and soothe her nerves. The war was won for today, her pokemon played their parts, it time to rest.
Just when it seemed like the dangers clear and present were gone, the aftermath of the warfront claimed lives as well.
He only just barely seen Olivia Abbiati get pulled into deep water as Kyogre regressed back into the deep. Readying his pokéballs he thought to send Ranton and a Gyarados transformed Gan down into the depths to attempt to find the unfortunate one washed away by a wave. "Hold on!" He yelled to his passenger.
Hiei landed quickly but before he could call back his own pokémon the man who started their side on the right path with a massive SAFEGUARD at the beginning of the Battle for Lilycove, Orion Lykos , was already pulling her from the deep.
He watched the man administer CPR, feeling just as helpless as the one he administering to; so many died today for their victory. For even one more to go after the fight had been won, the thought of it made his stomach flip.

i have a need of crueler waves they sicken of the calm, who knew the storm
Skyler watched as the leviathan known as Kyogre plummeted into the sea, its sorrowful cry echoing inside her mind. Her grip on Sirena tightened when it resurfaced again, the markings on its body glowing ominously in the night... but then it was gone, away into the farthest reaches of the ocean depths.
The sailor hoped it stayed there.
The waters shifted and moved under her, receding from the drowned seaside town. The blonde had to hold on to tight to her Lapras so she wasn't knocked into the treacherous currents and swept away. A silvery mantle of moonlight fell upon the destruction wrought by the ocean beast and the alien invaders. In the silence that followed, Skyler closed her eyes and breathed out.
It is over. It is finally, finally over.
Yet when she reached out in an attempt to find any sort of relief or closure within her, all she found instead was a strange, cold numbness. She hoped Lilycove was okay, she hoped that its cliffs had been enough to stop the ocean from taking its due. She hoped none of her friends had met their deaths while fighting. She hoped that her parents were okay. She hoped--
She felt so weary.
Droplets of salt water fell from her drenched form as she sat upright, her silver eyes looking around for a familiar face. This strange, heavy quiet felt bittersweet on her tongue, and she didn't want to dwell on it for too long. Atalanta and Slowbro were still helping people out by the mountainside, but she made no motion to go to them. Not yet.
Looking out, Skyler spotted a Wailord. Out by the sea, bathed in pale moonlight, it was just... floating. Was that -- ?
Before she knew what she was doing, Skyler had commanded her Lapras forward, heart beating a strange staccato inside her ribcage. Dread pooled in her stomach at the sight of a familiar pale figure lying deathly still on the Wailord.
"Celeste?" She couldn't recognize her voice then, so shaky it was more of a wobble. She cleared her throat, trying again. "Celeste, is that you?"
tl;dr + skyler is coming to terms with what happened + she sees a lone wailord out by the sea and decides to investigate
"Yeah," Celeste replied quietly as she heard Skyler speak. She knew someone was arriving from the sound of a pokemon approaching over the water, but she wasn't entirely sure who it was until they spoke. Even with her eyes closed, she could easily narrow in on the shaky tone to her voice. It was almost as if she was scared... Scared that she was dead, perhaps? Or just still nerves from the confrontation? It was hard to say, but it certainly did bring the faintest hint of a smile to the corners of her lips.
Finally opening her eyes, Celeste would turn her head slowly to look at the woman. She had to admit, it was genuinely quite nice to see someone who at least attempted to show concern for her, even if her facial expression really didn't show it. "Yeah, it's me."
Letting out a quiet sigh, Celeste turned her head back to look up at the stars. She used to know the constellations by heart, knowing all the stars in the sky. But right now, that information seemed much less important. They were just, simply beautiful. And that was all she needed. "I'm fine. Or, I will be fine. One of those two."
She sighed softly, moving to wave Skyler aboard should she wish to do so. It took her clearly quite a bit of energy to even sit up, her breathing picking up quite a bit as she finally managed to get into an upright position. Rather than talk about Kyogre, or potentially anything involving the aftermath of the war, Celeste had seemingly decided it was best to pretend, at least for a moment, everything was fine.
"... The breeze always feels so gentle after a storm. At least, to me it does." She was soaked to the bone and the cold air certainly wasn't doing much good for her. And yet, she seemed to enjoy it. Giving up on her attempts to sit up, Celeste slowly laid herself back down, eyes closed once more. It was extremely obvious just how tired and exhausted she was, despite trying her best. Underneath the wetsuit, there were almost certainly large bruises up her sides from when the Nihilego tentacle had wrapped around her, but that could be handled later.
She paused for a few moments, growing eerily still once more before interrupting the silence. "Are we ever going to see one another at a time where at least one of our lives aren't immediately in peril? That might be nice."
i have a need of crueler waves they sicken of the calm, who knew the storm
At the sound of the familiar soft voice, a knot of tension Skyler hadn't known was there dissolved into nothing. Shoulders slumped with relief at the same time as a sigh was released into the cold night air. She did her best to hide her shaking hands from Celeste Abbiati , wondering if this was what war did to people: turn them into shadows of themselves.
The invitation to board the Wailord took Skyler by surprise, but it was readily accepted. "I'll be right back," she called out to her Lapras, which simply nodded and crooned gently, bobbing in the waves next to the whale pokémon. "Thank you for letting me aboard," she patted the Wailord, suddenly remembering its sudden descent into a building-sized creature. "Sirena, give us a small Life Dew?"
As shimmering droplets enveloped the two water types (and consequently the two women as well), Skyler climbed up to where Celeste was lying down, all energy seemingly gone from the pale woman's body. A frisson of concern flashed across Skyler's face as she sat down next to Celeste, but soft-spoken words distracted her. The sailor looked around, taking in the quiet that spread across the ocean's surface. As if a war hadn't just taken place here. "I've always liked the challenge of the storm," Skyler confessed, looking down at pale strands of hair. "But I think I'd like to rest. For now." Skyler was the type of person that would never be content to lie still, but she could try. For a little while.
Celeste Abbiati 's next words brought a small smile to Skyler's lips. "Does that mean that I'm meant to patch you up now?" She waved her empty hands around, teasing. "Sorry, I'm a bit lacking on the essentials at the moment. I have a harpoon gun, but I don't think that'll help much." Speaking of, the sailor groaned as she finally rid herself on the weight on her back, unabashedly lying next to Celeste to look up at the sky.
Silence overtook the two of them for a little while. Whatever may be happening behind them on the island, to Skyler it seemed far, far away. "I'm sure we'll manage, don't worry. We have time."We both survived, seemed to be the underlying message in those words.
tl;dr + skyler is going to rest for a little bit ty
The Life Dew certainly felt quite refreshing, even if it kept her from properly drying out. Healing moves were always bizarre, but she did feel the pain in her sides lessen slightly as she let out a quiet sigh. Tiny for his part, simply let out a quiet call out in thanks. His wounds still weren't fully recovered, but he had quite a large amount of skin to cover as well.
As Skyler laid down beside her, Celeste kept her eyes closed, simply placing her hands atop her chest. The challenge of the storm... It was a form of growth, for sure. Through the trials of adversity, strength blossoms afterward.
However, her words about patching her up just simply encouraged a small smirk to spread across her face. "You have already done more than enough tonight for my sake." The assistance escaping from the Nihilego's grasp, the help aboard the ship, the flight and multiple various heals over the course of the night. Perhaps in the future, she'd continue to feel in debt, and desperate to continue to prove her capability to stand on her own, but right now all she could think about was how exhausted she was.
Only when Skyler spoke again did she open her eyes, tilting her head to look over at her. They'll manage? It was a strange sort of feeling, realizing that this woman genuinely was happy she was still alive. She recognized it earlier, but every time it still surprised her. She wasn't used to kindness. It was typically just a formality in the world that she experienced. But to Skyler, it was as casual as a smile.
Maybe she could put up with a few saccharine statements every now and then if they were this genuine.
"I think... I'm going to stay here for a while." She spoke quietly with a whisper, eyes glancing back up at the stars. "Just come wake me up when the medical team inevitably arrives, will you? Right now, I don't feel like moving."
i have a need of crueler waves they sicken of the calm, who knew the storm
Skyler wanted stay here for the foreseeable future, looking up at the stars and enjoying the subtle warmth by her side. Now that she'd stopped, she could feel all the aches and bruises that adrenaline hadn't let her feel at the time. The sailor was discovering that navigating a ship through a tidal wave, several monstrosities and a pirate invasion wasn't a task one could do entirely unscathed.
She let Celeste Abbiati 's soft voice wash over her, feeling her eyelids growing heavier by the second. Yet her mind would not rest, and the next time she closed her eyes the flash of half-chewed bodies and bloody decks snapped her wide awake. Skyler spat out a curse, letting her arm fall over her face and breathing in heavily.
"We helped each other out," the sailor replied to Celeste Abbiati 's statement, chewing briefly on her words. "That's what friends do." There was no hint of hesitation to her words, no deliberate hidden meaning. The casualness of it almost made it seem like it was an inevitable conclusion rather than an uncertain possibility.
Then Skyler pulled herself to a sitting position, looking down at amethyst eyes, her own silver ones growing soft. "Don't worry, I won't let you drift into the open sea." There was a hint of teasing humor in her tone, even as she moved into a crouch, nodding at the harpoon gun with her chin. "Keep that safe for me, will you?"
The sailor was about to walk away when something stopped her. Her hand moved to grasp Celeste Abbiati 's shoulder, making sure to get the woman's attention. "Celeste, when this is over..." For the first time there was a slight hesitation in her speech, then her lips curled into a bright smile. "Find me in Lilycove, yeah? There'll be no mortal peril - to either of us, I promise."
Skyler thanked the Wailord again as she descended onto her Lapras. "To the seaside town, Sirena." There was still a lot of work to do, people to aid, things to patch up. Plus she had to reunite with Atalanta and Slowbro; they probably didn't know where their trainer was. What was that saying? Miles to go before I sleep?
If she had any say in the matter, she probably wouldn't get a wink of sleep tonight.
Miles to go indeed.
tl;dr + skyler has nasty flashbacks wow shocker + skyler and celeste are friends now no refunds k ty + also promises + skyler goes back to the seaside town to help refugees
IN THE AFTERMATH, the seas calm as much as they can. The slight, constant turbulence serves as a reminder of the incredible power the ocean of Hoenn holds. After all, the affected Kyogre is still out there, swimming through its mysterious depths.[break][break]
However, conflict still arises from Olivia Abbiati's actions. After Alexei Ivanov saves Billi Marsh, the summoned Phione (not Zelle) begin to depart. However, Olivia Abbiati manages to kill one of them before they can leave. The subsequent conflict results in heated tension between the ex-councilwoman and the gym leader.[break][break][break]
More tragedy ensues. As everyone retreats back to Lilycove City, DAPHNE STONE would discover the dead body of her brother, ALEXANDER STONE, on one of the sandbanks. A funeral ceremony is scheduled soon after with the future of Devon Corp. up in the air.[break][break][break]
Lilycove requires repairs, for the three days of war have caused the urban city to sustain infrastructural damages. However, it is also Kyogre's doing, for the sudden rise in sea waters has caused flooding damage as well. Thankfully, the city is repaired swiftly in the coming days.[break][break][break]
Celeste Abbiati is haunted by what has just transpired. The power of Pokemon is altogether overwhelming and inspiring; however, perhaps, it is best to place concern on Olivia Abbiati's current condition. Likewise, priam conrad and oscar clayton help assess Velmos' state as Eva Dumont and Walsh bring him to a nearby medical bay.[break][break][break]
The trammels on the rocky islands have dug deep into the earth. Soon, such places will be open for Hoenn Adventours to help reveal whatever secrets lie underneath.[break][break][break]
