LATE SEPTEMBER — as ultra wormholes are sighted in the seas of hoenn, the region begins to be tainted by poisons, the source of which is unknown. parts of hoenn's seas darken with toxic waste, like oil spills. for this reason, head scientist, lucas lane, has entrusted volunteers with a special antidote formula that he has helped create with elite four, thomas benoit's sludge sample.[break][break][break]

suddenly, slateport's docks are swarming with mareanie. like the summer beach party's mareanie outbreak, it forces league rangers to clear the shore.[break][break][break]

[break][break]the dewpider by his feet scuttles to stretch the distance, though lingers closer than its trainer. a liquidation powered by WATER BUBBLE force a handful of the mareanie back, knocking a few others onto their side. after glancing at its trainer, the dewpider repeats the attack.

Fernando has his Galarian Slowbro WITHDRAW into its shell. Against another poison type, holding long enough for reinforcements is a better option then fighting outright. The last thing they want it to contaminate the beach front. All they need to do is endure.

[attr="class","spiral"]Evangeline initially thought it was cute, the wave of Mareanie. Or rather the first few trickles of what would become the wave. There's just something so charming about their little faces and their barbed "hair". But as the crowd grows and, out of seeming distress, grows more violent and keen on entering the city she has no choice but to join the rangers beating them back.

"Scolipede, that crowd over there!" she waves in the direction of a nearby group of the absolutely bristling Pokemon and Scolipede jumps into action. He charges forward and, the moment the Mareanie notice him, rears up on his four large legs before slamming his top half against the soft sands of the beach. EARTHQUAKE at first rocks the wild Pokemon about before forcing them backwards as the tremors increase in strength.

Some slip into the sand and are knocked out by the pressure of the shifting ground, others are simply scared back into the water. Either way Evangeline counts it as a successful response.

The region was in nothing but utter chaos from one side of Hoenn to the other. Or at least, that was how it felt to the trainer. A quick called to him for assistance and Maverick was on his way. It didn’t take long for the burnt scarred trainer to arrive on the scene and take in mareanie that threatened the beach. However, it appeared they were fleeing something other than attacking. Either way, they were a nuisance and needed to be dealt with.

“Let’s get those over there,” the man barked to the crawdaunt, pointed to the group that was trying to get away, “Use CRABHAMMER.” The crawdaunt wasted no time in following his trainer’s command. Crawling closer to the group, his claws took on a brilliant white glow that was soon surrounded by water. And when close enough, Zarya smashed her claw at the water and poison type. It’s face filled with fear as it scurried away back into the ocean to get again. “Again,” the man ordered, motioning to another, “Use crabhammer.” The creature repeated the attack, taking on any wild pokemon that needed to be pushed back until the task was done.

Always testing his limits the ranger answered another call in regards to the toxic materials being found at the shores and water routes of the region, bringing one of his most recent acquisitions Corsola with him.

The only pkmn in all his days to ever ask to come along with him Corsola was a sparkplug made of sugar-water. Happy and eager to help, and her help, he would need.

Mareanie were leaving the water in droves but unlike other ranger missions regarding the toxic waste this reminded him more of the Venusaur swarming earlier in the month. The pkmn seemed to be leaving their natural habitat in full, which was telling in and of itself. Only unlike the Venusaur who lived on land and were perfectly aware and adjusted to humans, the Mareanie seemed to be in a bit more of a panic.

Given the latter moved in more or less a marching line in a set path, whereas the Brutal Star PKMN just seemed to be scattering away from their homes.

"use AQUA RING and check things out. Don't engage if you don't have to." Curious to see what might be down there the redhead sent corsola underwater to check things out. "-and come right back if you don't find anything quickly."

With a nod and a smile she took to the water and what lie beneath. When she submerged, they would make their leave; there was nothing really to be done about what-he-could-only-assume-was an entire ecosystem's population of a species, leaving said ecosystem.

He wasn’t really sure what these things were… All he could tell from the figures that were mulling around on the sand of the beach was that there were a ton of them and they were all over the place. Tadashi had heard someone call them Mareanie? They were spiky, and small, but he could swear he remembered someone saying that they were poisonous which meant that he needed to try and steer clear of them the best that he could… Fortunately, when someone had called out to him for help as he was passing by because of the Pokemon that he had with him, Tadashi knew that Nanghi was going to be able to handle the little spiky creatures swarming the beach. He remained up on her back with Cassio and Ostinato, but with her large figure and her broad trunk, the Copperajah made easy work of sweeping the Mareanie back into the water and towards the ocean waves, trying to get as many of the numerous Pokemon back into the water where they had come from.

The sight of a Mareanie swarm is familiar to her eyes

Katherine remembers the hoard of them that crashed the beach party just a couple of weeks ago— she remembered how many people were quick to capture them, as well. They seemed ordinary back then - but now? The poison-typed appeared to be frightened, as if escaping from something.

Or someone, perhaps.

With her Sandygast deployed, it’s easy to direct the swarm and ensure they clear the shore. The gym leader’s ghost-type SHORES UP in order to manipulate a sandstorm to deter the Mareanie from staying on the beach.
