Gigi loathed escort missions. They were the bane of her existence in most of the games she played. It was like the NPCs were suicidal and didn't actually want to be safely escorted. Instead, they'd throw themselves headfirst into danger while yelling "leeeeroy jenkins!" Which, okay, they didn't actually say but it was the best word she could use to define their behavior. Just a bunch of freaking Leeroy Jenkins wanting her to suffer.

So, why the fuck was she going on an escort mission? Did she accidentally accept the posting online? Misread it? Or maybe she was just a masochist who chased perfection: gotta get that completionist achievement.

Gigi sighed as she fiddled with her phone. She was supposed to be meet up with a fellow trainer because scary poachers were lurking around. Honestly, the poachers piqued her interest. Not too long ago, she had encountered a Castform in the safari zone that had clearly been abused. Could they have possibly been behind it? Hands curled into fists at the thought.
[break][break]Her muscles went lax when her gaze shifted to her Castform playing with the ~~NPC~~ mission-related Castform. The two were getting along well which was a relief to see. Doppler was nervous and tense around her other Pokemon. She had begun to worry if the damage could actually be reversed. Seeing the two Pokemon gave her hope, though.

it's not like that he doesn't like doings things on his down time, but more like he doesn't like skimming over the job description and then learning about the specifics when it was too late to back off.

kyle sighs as he goes to rendezvous with another person who took the job listing. his mightyena stands in front of his and acts as a guide to allow his trainer to indulge himself with his games without bumping into people.

a bark from the mightyena gets kyle to lift his head up from his handheld to greet his supposed partner for the job. he forces a smile from the deadpan expression he had from staring at a screen to make himself look at least approachable.

"hello," he greets. "you're here for the thing, right?"

the castform entrusted to kyle was kept in its pokeball, however. since the other person had two, he had to assume that at least one of them is related to the thing he's signed up for. he tries to comfort himself with suggestive things in his head that tells him that he didn't embarrass himself by asking a complete stranger.

Luckily, Gigi didn't have to wait long to start this strenuous ~~quest~~ mission. "If by 'thing' you mean the escort mission then yes." she gestured towards the Castform that would be under her care for the day. "Unless you're talking about something else." Imagine if he was here for less than legal affairs. Honestly, that felt fitting of how terrible her luck was going lately.

Assuming this man was indeed who she was meant to meet, she continued, "I'm Gigi. Nice to meet you." Why were introductions so hard? Gigi felt awkward as her hands fidgeted. "This is my own Castform, Doppler." The two Castform were getting along swimmingly: the league owned Castform throwing away its nerves as Doppler timidly attempted to play with it. He wasn't used to "play" but seeing another of his species made him relax, even if it was just a little.

Before she could open her loud mouth again, a Pumpkaboo floated over there. "Uh.." A Pokeball fell from the sky, presumably from the Pumkabo. "Wut." By the time she picked up the empty Pokeball, the ghost type had already vanished. "Well, that happened." she chuckled, unsure of what to make of the brief encounter.

"yup." kyle shows a pokeball that contains another castform to confirm her suspicions, though on hindsight, no one would've been able to tell what was inside. "i'm kyle by the way," he introduces.

they were interrupted by a seasonal occurence in the region. the reaction he got from her was taken note of. the confusion amuses him more than anything, although he makes sure not to show it. a smile remains on his face however.

kyle shoos the pumpkaboo away from them as it appears. he grasps its gift with the same hand before pocketing it before he can mix it up with another pokeball that keeps the castform for delivery. "it happens sometimes during this season," kyle explains with a fond smile as he searches for the pumpkaboo again. "are you new to the region?"

the question somehow gives him the clarity to identify some similarity in her face. a guess forms in his head, although he's too bashful to actually voice it out. his suspicions remain with him since he figures it's irrelevant anyways.

So, random Pumkaboo tried to scare the shit out of humans during the fall seasons? Duly noted. She would remember that for next year: if, and it was a big if, she was still there. "Ah, what gave it away?"

"But yeah. It's October now so.." Gigi chuckled, "I've only been here for a month. Or something like that." Her concept of time was easily distorted. At least, that was the excuse she liked to often use when late for something. The clock on her computer would magically jump forward five or more hours when she caught sight of the time. "It doesn't seem like you're a newbie- er, new to the area- like me, so.." That was awkward, wasn't it? Damn. Why didn't her ability to interact with new people online transfer to the real world? "I have no idea where we're supposed to go." Luckily, the smile never wavered from her face. "I mean, GPS is wonderful and all but having someone with knowledge of the region would probably be quicker."

"Oh, I almost forgot." A facial expression embraced the word duh as she sheepishly rubbed the back of her head, "I'm Gigi, by the way."

"we had these last year too," he mentions, refering to the pumpkaboos. "almost every year, i think. happens all over hoenn too."

kyle watches her fumble over her words awkwardly, stifling a chuckle when he sees her do one for an entirely different reason. "i get around the region," he explains. "grew up in this hell hole, so yeah."

he plays with the pokeball containing the castform, tossing it up and down as he decides to move towards their destination. he stops once he's past her, then turns around to motion for her to follow with a jerk of his head. they can walk and talk, he assumes.

"the place we're looking for's kinda hidden in plain sight, so i can get us there just in case." mossdeep has been its own little island, though it's hard to differentiate residential houses with facilities sometimes. "in the mean while, can i ask you what's brought you to hoenn?"

"Huh." Gigi mused to herself, "Do they belong to someone or are they wild Pokemon?" A human being behind the stunt would make the most logical sense. How else would they get the materials required? Although, the image of Pumpkaboo purchasing pokeballs at the general store was pretty darn great. [break][break]
Her nose scrunched up as Kyle revealed that his entire life was spent in this, uh, quaint region. "My condolences." she offered though the words were distorted by a cheeky chuckle. "Hoenn is certainly.." Gigi trailed off for a moment. "Different." It was a vague conclusion but, despite the man describing it himself as a hellhole, she didn't want to offend his patriotism.. or something like that. However, she did add, "The lack of advanced technology surprised me when I arrived. I mean, it's not like the whole region is hick town buut it definitely isn't Unova." [break][break]
She hummed, temporarily lost in her thoughts, as she instinctively followed the Hoenn native. "Any ideas on the weird happenings around the region?" Poisonous fumes, heavy atmospheres, and whispered words rampaged the lands. "Is it like the end of the world or something?" Little did she know how true she would be. For now, though, it was easy to tell she was joking.

"What's brought me here, eh?" she rephrased his question. Teeth chewed on her bottom lip as she tossed around several answers in her mind. "I mean, why does anyone come to Hoenn?" Hoenn was the ideal location for people who wanted to keep a lowkey and escape from their previous lives.

She wasn't going to admit that she let her followers decide her journey. That was, quite honestly, not one of her brightest moments. Why the hell did she think people online would do anything but troll? Gods, she could be stretching out underneath the sun in Alola if she hadn't considered the opinions of her audience. "I suppooose you could call it an early retirement adventure." Maybe she should have rephrased that? She sure as hell didn't look old enough to retire and she was still streaming, but it was part of the truth.

kyle shrugs when asked about the origins of the pumpkaboo. no one really knows where they came from, and no one wants to know.

a smile remains on kyle's expression as he watches her obviously fumble on her words, as if treading on eggshells.

"i honestly wouldn't even come to this region if i had a choice to be honest," he admits. "as much as i love the place, it's, like, the worst backwater region for a vacation. i don't even understand what's happening to be honest."

it was meant to be a jest, but it felt too real once he finally said it. "no one really knows why hoenn gets an influx of immigrants. that's why i'm asking." kyle shrugs.

the perfect icebreaker finally appears when it's convenient. not wanting to discuss more about hoenn's state since it's a conflict of interest of his employment, kyle quickly switches attention to the building they're nearing.

"that building there's the place. we can drop these off and be done with this."

The mystery of the great pumpkaboo would remain sealed away until next Halloween season. [break][break]
"All regions have their own problems." Admittedly, Hoenn's issues were perhaps a tad bit overwhelming compared to its neighbors. "Unova looks pretty in pictures but when you look passed all of the glitz and glamour of its big cities you're left with, well, a heap of garbage." Literally and mephorically. It was as if people thought trash bins were for decoration. Alleys were littered with not only waste but humans, unable to pay the ever climbing rent of nearby houses. Even raggedy apartments could be expensi vr as all hell. Then there was the issue of the the skinny, unkempt stray Pokemon..
[break][break]Gigi shrugged as she chuckled, "To be honest, I didn't do much research into Hoenn before traveling here. It sounded like a fun adventure, but.." She had been horribly mistaken. "Heh. It probably didn't help that I used Chatter to help decide my fate." Speaking the truth aloud made her wince both internally and externally. Yeeaaahh.. not the wisest idea.
[Break][break]Doppler's facial features dropped as he realized they were nearing their destination. He cried out his displeasure, voice shaking as he did so. "Doppler, it's okay. We can come visit your new friend." The tattered Castform didn't look convinced.
[Break]The Castform granted for the mission cooed softly toward Doppler. A wild smile was on her face yet it didn't quite reach her eyes. Gigi chewed on the bottom of her lip as she looked back toward Kyle, "They'll be fine, right?" She knew that the Castform knew her mission but seeing the departure between the fast made friends made her heart ache with sympathy.

she earns a chuckle from kyle. "you're suicidal," he casually remarks, amused by her situation. "well, i hope you have fun here then."

he pulls out his phone from his pocket, the motion fluid and swift as if practiced, and calls for the person in charge. he watches the two castforms say their goodbyes from the corner of his eye as he informs the personnel to get ready for the shipment.

kyle forces the conversation with the ranger in charge to end when he's approached. "we'll just apprehend them if they're used for illegal experiments if you're worried about that." a short 'yes' would have sufficed.

as they meet the entrance of the building, kyle takes another glance at his phone. there's none, but feigning being busy works most of the time as an excuse. a disgruntled face appears as a facade before he takes the pokeball containing his castform and hands it to gigi.

"looks like i got another job. can you hand this as well?" he breathes a heavy sigh. "but if you want to experience the best of hoenn, you better get your team ready. hit me up if you want a training partner. you can ask for your dispatcher for my contacts."

he runs away as soon as he hears footsteps from inside the building. "see ya!" kyle feels bad for leaving the talking and the other to her, except he'd feel worse if he has to sit through it too.
