last minute is always the best time to go do whatever he needs to be doing. procrastination is the slice of life that everyone needs to partake in, mostly because there would never be more suspense in one's life outside of this.

no matter how much kyle tries to convince himself otherwise, he cannot even try to get the logic of it past himself. it was just the convenience of it far outweighs the panic on the last day. besides, it's not like he doesn't like the rush of adrenaline that comes with it.

that, and maybe he just hates himself.

exiting from the entrance of the safari zone, kyle finds his first target quick. he sends out his mightyena as soon as his eyes met up with the rodent's, a flash of light coming from the capsule blinding both parties.

"hidden power!"

light does not seem to escape the mightyena even after it materializes from the pokeball. it comes with a sudden burst of energy, with the morpeko struck with awe, unable to react properly to the move that it hasn't seen before.

the mightyena finally gets the glow out and approaches the morpeko. it barks once before turning back to kyle, tail wagging. from over the dark-type's head, a pokeball gets flung until it hits the unconscious electric-type.

kyle picks up the safari ball that captured the morpeko, smiling at the fact that he's one step closer to leaving this safari zone fast. the sooner, the better.

he presses forward, not even acknowledging the presence of the castform flitting above him.

"and there's another one."

kyle turns his attention to the curious shinx that unfortunately stumbles upon them from nowhere. there's a moment of hesitation where kyle could see it think about turning tail or standing his ground. a smile comes on kyle's expression when it sees it take the latter.

"hidden power."

the shinx comes charging in, its paws clumsily bringing it closer to the mightyena at its full velocity. experience from the dark-type had made him feel like he had all the time in the world to react, and simply side steps it.

kyle readies a pokeball that he throws on the shinx the moment the mightyena releases its hidden power. the electric-type is hit with a quick one-two as the burst of energy hits it for super effective damage and is sucked within the capsule before it can even react to the attack.

he wasn't sure if he's going to use his shinx or not in battle, but it looked cool and that was enough for some people to get a pokemon. kyle is apparently one of them.

he ignores the typole despite it's different coloration because he isn't shallow that appearances will be enough for him to change his opinion about some pokemon, or so he wants to tell himself after getting his shinx for the exact reason.

the mightyena gets distracted by the anorith that waddles in. he approaches it and tries to boop it, but kyle's sharp whistle brings the canine away from the wild pokemon. he doesn't want to nurse charlie if his nose gets cut or something.

ushered away from the anorith, the mightyena scampers away and gets back to kyle.

this time around, it was kyle that gets distracted by the spinarak. it hangs down from a tree with its web, showing the elite four the intricate patterns it possesses on its body.

"charlie, why do they need tiny little faces on their backs?" kyle asks his mightyena.

charlie, not wanting to answer the trainer's question, charges up a shadow ball from his maw and launches it at the spinarak. the orb hits it squarely, causing it to fall and land onto the tree's roots, battered and weakened by a single move.

kyle throws a pokeball at the fallen pokeball because he realize he can get two more captures in anyways before shooting a look at the dark-type.

the shinx appears but kyle doesn't think it's as cute as the shinx he just caught. maybe he's biased because he doesn't want to waste another pokeball to replace his earlier shinx, but it doesn't matter now since he's looking away.

the shinx looks longingly as the trainer walks away because it's an orphan and doesn't have a good home.
