after the ultra beast war, hoenn begins to heal. the megalopolan invasion may have failed; however, it is clear there is much more at stake. a prophecy revolving around a cyclical meteoroid, the appearance of necrozma and a dangerous and viral alien threaten the safety of the region once more.
with rocket's new boss, the resurgence and reappearance of the crime syndicate's presence is imminent. the league has done its best to repair its reputation, and with the victory of a war under their belt, perhaps it is enough. but the seeds of distrust have already been sown in the ravaged land of this region, causing many to wonder what will grow?
kyle finds a good spot for him to get pokemon near him. a jar of honey to attract wild pokemon is left unopened in the middle of a clearing.
he had left his urshifu's training under noah faber's tutelage for the longest time. he feels like an absentee father for not giving it much attention, although he's here to fix this mistake.
he cranes his neck up just to look at the urshifu's eyes, which wasn't something he was used to doing with his other pokemon. they stare at each other for a moment, with kyle trying to vibe with his urshifu before a training montage, until kyle breaks the ice.
kyle produces a candy bar and breaks a piece, handing it to the urshifu. the urshifu takes it and eats it, as what any other child would do when handed candy.
J.J. slowly skids his bicycle to a halt, wiping away at the cool beads of sweat dripping from his forehead with one of his sleeves. As he averts his gaze aside, he spots a dark and tall pokemon towering over someone he can only assume is its trainer. He lets out a low yet brief whistle at the strange sight as he inwardly marvels at the unknown creature.
He casually pedals closer to the man only slowing down when he gets close enough for a proper inspection. "What kind of pokemon is that?" he curiously asks.
Dismounting his bike, he kicks the stand to leave the bike in place as he slowly straightens his back as he approaches, keeping himself at a fair distance away from the two. His icy blue eyes are still locked to the pokemon, comparing his own height to the bear-like pokemon. Seeing that he's slightly taller than the Urshifu, he finally turns his attention away from the Urshifu, easily spots the jar of honey against the ground.
both trainer and pokemon turn their heads when both of them hear the whistle. kyle is worried that the urshifu might be too tame since it doesn't react the same way as his dogs do to strangers.
"an urshifu," kyle answers bluntly. "i think it's a rare pokemon from galar or something. i don't really know of their origins, to be honest."
he had only gotten it as a cub one time the navel rock tower has opened its doors for challengers and only researched of what it could do after that. besides what moves it can possibly use, kyle doesn't have much information about it.
"oh, that's for attracting wild pokemon," he answers when asked about the jar of honey. "i'm trying to get to know this pokemon more. are you curious to what it can do too?
the urshifu licks chocolate off of its paws all while watching the conversation take place.
”I’d be lying if I said I weren’t interested.” he openly admits, giving Kyle a bright smile. He’s honestly curious as to what kind of pokemon Urshifu is as it obviously must be an extremely rare pokemon even if it is from Galar.
He nods back at Kyle, now properly understanding what the jar was for. "So were you two planning on training then, or are you just out trying to catch pokemon?"
As he asks, he can hear rustling from the nearby grass. Speak of the devil, J.J. quietly thinks to himself as an Obstagoon attracted by the honey emerges from the grass. Seeing an opportunity to catch some pokemon, he pulls out a pokeball and calls Soleil out. The Lucario lets out a bark as it looks to her trainer.
"Aura Sphere, Soleil." he points at the Obstagoon. Understanding her trainer's demands, the bipedal canine holds her palm together - gathering the surrounding aura into a single sphere before launching it out at the Obstagoon. It goes down from the attack as it inches its way closer to the jar.
Seeing the large mammal collapse, J.J. pulls out a spare pokeball and tosses it outward, pulling the gothic pokemon into the spherical shell.
kyle lopez - catching the obstagoon as mentioned. thanks for the first pick <3
"kinda both, actually," he admits. "i need pokemon for a certain thing... ish."
the war had claimed lives of even pokemon from league officers. bolstering those numbers just helps him do his job easier in the future, and as cheap as he is, he'd rather just nab some from the wild that get orders from expensive breeders.
he'd admit to that if he knows how to word it properly.
a lillipup comes in the clearing afterwards, baited by the smell of honey maybe. kyle grabs his urshifu by its shoulders and turns it towards the wild pokemon. "aqua jet," he tells the pokemon.
the urshifu lowers its stance before it zooms towards the lillipup, leaving a jet of water on its wake. as soon as it approaches the normal-type, its legs quickly sweep underneath the lillipup's and launch it airborne with a kick. kyle catches it with a well-timed throw of a pokeball.
"well, not this one," he mentions, referencing to his earlier answer. "maybe the ones that come after this."
[attr="class","text-area"] j.j.'s eyes widen excitedly as he watches the urshifu speed away, beating away the lillipup with relative ease. "that's a water type pokemon?" he asks incredulously, not expecting the typing at all. [break][break]
"i could have sworn, it seemed more like a dark type pokemon since its fur is all black." he ogles at the pokemon for a moment before turning his attention back to the trainer. he tilts his head slightly when the man admits to needing certain pokemon - unsure as to what he might be referring to. [break][break]
for a brief moment, he spots a squid-like pokemon in the distance and points over to it. "what about that then?" he asks, finding it not too interesting for him to even bother.
[attr="class","ooc-area"]i meant to post this sooner Dx — kyle lopez
he looks at the direction that he was pointing at, but kyle spots something else that catches his attention.
"yeah, that's perfect actually," he tells him. "i know of someone who'd appreciate that."
he jerks his head from the urshifu towards the audino as if to tell his pokemon to capture it. it lunges forward and lands at it, pinning it down to the ground under his weight. a swift dynamic punch knocks it out, and kyle throws a pokeball at the wild pokemon.
after the commotion, the inkay takes the opportunity to leave the chaos.
"it has two forms though, apparently." he tells the pokemon. "one's a dark-type, so i guess you got a guess right. both formes are also part fighting-type too."
kyle watches the urshifu take the pokeball that got the audino within in his paws as it walks back to kyle.
"haven't used him in an actual trainer battle though so i'm not sure how he fares in that."
J.J. chuckles as he's genuinely surprised that he managed to get one of the Urshifu's potential other typing correct. "So it's one of those pokemon that have different forms then? I wonder what the other might look like..."
His sight trails away from the Urshifu – spotting a two-headed dragon trudge its way outwards. He glances back to the Lucario as if sending a similar signal that Kyle had sent to his Urshifu. Lucario kneels against the ground as it takes a track sprint stance before suddenly zooming away with EXTREME SPEED as it suddenly appears before the Zweilous, slamming both of its knees against each head.
As the dragon topples backwards, J.J. quickly tosses out a pokeball.
He smiles as the Lucario fetches the pokeball holding the Zweilous back to him as he looks back to Kyle.
"Still, even if its just for catching wild pokemon, that Urshifu seems pretty powerful." he says, having noticed just how physically strong the bear-like pokemon is. Judging from its fighting stance it certainly seems more averse in martial arts than most fighting types.
the pokemon just keep on taking the bait, which is just a jar of honey, and going for the death trap. the doduo that comes in next doesn't have a chance to turn tail and run when the urshifu goes for it the moment it stepped in.
it throws it to the ground with one part of surging strikes, with the latter part of it beating it down to unconsciousness. kyle throws a pokeball at it because he's merciful or something.
"this one specializes on speed while it's power for the other forme," he explains. "they look relatively the same... i think?" he hasn't actually looked at whatever physical features they had to notice any difference since both forms to look relatively the same.
while he does care about aesthetics to some degree, it only applies to pokemon he actually has tastes for. the urshifu's nice and looks cool, but it's one of the pokemon that kyle would probably like regardless of their appearance.
"maybe we can look for the difference in the 'net or something."
