“Yet another day! So busy..” Billi looked out the door as wandering trainers from farther away passed the gym because it wasn’t well advertised. Oh well, maybe they shouldn’t have the badge if they couldn’t read an address or use a gps. OR even their pokemon to help them find the place. Even so….it would get boring if he stayed around here all day. From the centre tree in his web hammock made by his bug pokemon he watched as someone entered.

As few would expect, two Leavany escorted them inside, guiding them through the railroad path and around a couple of massive trees that could only be described as ancient. There Billi met the person, and his eyes lit up with who it was! “Hi Kyle” Billi’s smile peeled upward as he moved towards his friend. The bells on his belt buckle jingled as he moved forward to hug his friend. “I’m guessing you’re here to challenge me?”

kyle's not ready for physical contact, and simply rescinds to his fate when the overly friendly gym leader comes to give him a hug. he tenses up before he greets back with a feeble "h-hello billi."

once released, he places a hand on his chest, waiting for his heart rate goes down. a weary smile is worn until he puts his hand away to his pocket. "yup. hoenn gym leader tradition. has anyone told you of that?" he teases.

pulling out his phone, he sends a quick message before shifting the screen to another window-- a document showing an application for the gym and the general information for it.

"i just wanna ask really quick though... how's the last challenge relating to proving a pokemon trainer's skill?"

granted that this wasn't the worst case in the history of hoenn so he can't exactly be critical about it. billi just got the unfortunate circumstance of being in an era where kyle's in a position to do basically inspect them for the league.

at least it wasn't FERNANDO SILPH this time.

Kyle seemed off put by his hug but it was meant in a friendly way! He was assured the friend was just here to battle and talk, or challenge. But apparently it was also an inspection. Mainly questioning his trails. The one in question was Billi’s favorite! It changed lives, or at least he thought it was the best one for the community, the others were more so expressing their creativity in the sense of pokemon.[break][break]

“To make people happy. It kinda changes the lives of youth and inspires people. Which is what I think a champion should do! Inspire the masses. Not everything has to be solved with violence, and pokemon battling. Sometimes a connection can change the direction of history, don’t cha think Kyle?” Billi asked as his rotom crackled in the air.[break][break]

Taking in his breath as he backed up. “The others are creativity in the sense of how you gotta solve the problem. But the last one...well it’s how you express it,” the fresh air passed through Billi’s hair, “Do you think…..I’d forgive a Poipol if I couldn’t connect with it. Some things just transcend pen and paper.”

he can't be mad at an answer so innocent and pure. kyle scratches his head as billi reveals to kyle his ideologies, though a slight smile cannot be contained in his neutral expression.

"and that's why no one's really fit to be hoenn's champion right now," he chuckles.

the current champion inspires fear more than anything else, while the ALEXANDER STONE had controversies connected to his assumption of the seat despite his charisma. tahlia was really the best champion when it comes to public image, though she doesn't really make it up with raw strength as a trainer as much as Bailey Cooper does.

"skill usually comes before pr, but i can see where you're getting at." he cracks his knuckles as he readies for the challenge before releasing a mightyena. "remember to at least give them a bit of a challenge though. making it too easy might do more bad to your reputation than good."

he noticed how the petalburg citizens react to the newly appointed gym. hoenn wasn't exactly focused on battles as regions like galar or unova do, so he wasn't sure why people care much about their representation.

"we're ready for what you're giving us!" the mightyena barks in approval.

Sure it was a naive sense of ownership and courage, but that was what he felt was needed. Relentless change and evolution, just like pokemon, and metamorphosis just like all the pokemon that lined his gym. Each one with a task and find ways to thrive in an environment that isn’t their own. It takes one person to change the world, and one bug to affect the colony. Pull your weight and show why you matter.[break][break]

Though he still felt judged on his drag challenge, he shrugged, “Well...I assumed most trainers wouldn’t go for it haha,” he paused thinking as he stepped away from the man, slowly with discretion. “it’s made for those people that don’t have anything else, that don’t have battle prowess to raise their spirits. Like the lady on my first day here. She felt sad because she couldn’t stand up for herself, that she had accomplished nothing, and by completing the challenge with your drifloon, her life was changed, and now I see her passing it on to her kids at the farmers market,”[break][break]

Stopping as he jumped up on top of a train car as the bells jingled. “SO! In order to complete this challenge, you have to grab the bells yourself! Your pokemon may only assist you in stopping me, they can’t grab the bells! Just as mine can stop yours! There is no limit to your pokemon, but still,” he grinned as the siren went off signifying the challenge had begun![break][break]

As he dashed off towards stairs, that led to the rafter walkways up above.

the main point of a gym challenge is to challenge a trainer's skill. there was a reason why the compassion badge was abolished, though kyle decides to keep the thought to himself. he starts to consider if it's his pragmatic view of the world is what isolates him from the rest.

he takes one glance at his mightyena as he resets his mind, before looking back at billi. a chase sequence was what his pokemon was made for. the wagging of the tail that the dark-type shows tells kyle that his pokemon was more eager about this than him.

"we're going then!" he starts to chase after billi, taking a similar route as him. "ice-fire fangs," he orders his mightyena.

the mightyena runs after his trainer while manifesting both of the elemental fangs at the same time. fire meets ice and a thick cloud of mist starts to permeate from the mightyena to the area surrounding him.

the cloud starts to cover just the pokemon itself, but it won't take long before it starts to spread to the areas surrounding him and the areas he's been from.

The mist had failed to spread and fill the area, while it gave a bad breath in a winter morning outside vibe from the wolf, it wasn’t enough to deter the trainer from his own stadium. Naturally the blonde stopped, grinning, “Have to try harder then that!” he taunted from the distance as the beast got closer, until he smiled and the pit fall below them was revealed! Showing the trapinches working below on their tunnels.[break][break]

Blue eyes humbled the other as he winked before dashing off again, further into the metal/nature foliage.

the thick blanket of fog persists on areas that kyle's mightyena has been on, leading to a trail of opaque gas following closely behind kyle whilst keeping him under the cover of obscurity from it.

carrying his mightyena, kyle follows billi's path, sprinting before taking a leap right over the pit. it takes a split second for kyle to stabilize himself after landing before dropping the pokemon right on the ground and going back to chasing after billi.

unbeknownst to the gym leader, kyle releases a second mightyena under the cover of the mist. a mocking tone was present with the howl that happens afterwards, taunting every other pokemon in the area to reveal themselves instead of hiding within traps.

the influence of the mist starts to grow the longer the first mightyena stays on the field. at this point, kyle lets him take the lead, following the dark-type's lead instead of relying on his sense of sight.

Billi had gotten away, farther ahead as the second mightyena was hidden in the mist. Well! It was still clear due to the ears that picked up, and the snarling of wolves. Luckily Billi quickly jumped up, on his pokemon that revealed themself. But, Billi was slick, his Corvknight grabbed billi’s arms and flew high into the air, “Wolves can’t jump sky high! Might wanna figure something else out buddie,”

as they fall from the jump, the mightyena starts to shout obscenities at the corviknight as a parting shot, showing his swagger to the flying-type, rattling it's mind to send it to a state of confusion.

a blanket of mists remains to cover the entirety of the area, blocking the sight from billi should he try to watch where he was going. the only thing he could note was that the mist wasn't heading towards them anymore, and that it remains low.

kyle freefalls, noticing that they had hiked up quite a height. both his arms wrapped around both of the mightyena he has out in the field, although a hand readies itself on a pokeball he always keeps with him should the gym leader not have something prepared for it.

Poor Corviknight, the swagger had succeeded! It had become confused from the wolves, confusing Billi, dropping him. “OOH shoot” The blonde called out, even though the dogs and the other human were ready, Billi found himself falling rapidly. Sure the dogs may have seen it running towards them, the flock of vivillon moved, and quickly grabbed their trainer, flapping him away from the threat to the point he could run.

just before kyle hits the ground, he clicks the trigger of his pokeball. the solgaleo appears out from the confines of the capsule and teleports its trainer and the mightyena out of the way from falling.

he reappears directly in front of gym leader, bringing along the mist that his pokemon had been producing all this time. the silhouette of the hulking figure of the solgaleo would be partially visible, if only because of the natural light it emits. it disappears as soon as kyle goes into action as it gets recalled.

"good thing i have teleport, huh?" he teases as he reappears from the mist. he didn't want to think of the consequence if he hadn't.

as billi recovers from the fall thanks to his vivillon, kyle lunges forward towards him, throwing himself towards the larger trainer with arms extended. a hand attempts to grab the bells, trying to take advantage of the confusion from the recent turn of events.
