it had been months since she’d been to mauville—since they’d lost weezing, and so many others. she wasn’t sure why she’d come. something within her felt the need for closure. release.

alas, as she lowered her knees into the dirt and ran her fingers through it, disturbing the pebbles like a child, she found none. there was only the cold stone of a scared stiff spirit, and scars too thick to let anything in or out.

the odd warmth she’d been feeling lately felt more like dissociation. it’d always been difficult to express things, but now? she felt almost robotic. she’d come here to will something perhaps she was no longer capable of.

she sat back in a plume of dust, staring at a darkening horizon.

her eyes searched the ground as if it were reflecting her thoughts back at her; a sort of invisible sounding board for contemplation. her inner dialogue was unclear and smoothed over--drunk, despite her soberness. solrock loomed over her shoulder, vibrating ever so lightly with power.

occupied in a moment of some sort of sensory deprivation, she did not notice the dubwool as it passed by.

solrock noticed the flame first, rising higher in the air as it recognized the threat. a litwick had taken notice of its trainer’s moment of weakness. waves of CONFUSION were sent in the ghost’s direction, in an attempt to derail it from its mission.

as solrock’s attention was stolen from lulu, as well as the deliverance of its CALM MIND, her breath hitched. for once in a long while, a tear fell into the dirt below.

she looked around, discovering the pokemon, and her hairs stood on end. it seemed like an omen, as she mourned her dead. she pushed to her feet and scrambled in the other direction, somewhat disoriented.

coming back to a sense of reality, lulu pushed onto her feet and began to walk down the path again, steps slow as her mind meandered through fog. she looked up to find a jigglypuff in their path, not looking particularly threatening.

it felt time to head home. it wasn't her type, but it was a popular choice. it could be easily traded or sold. she tossed a pokeball at it.
