Lex had just finished an evening stroll on the beach. The redhead was sitting comfortably on a half wall lining the side walk. Behind her the beach stretched towards the dark, crashing waves. It was a nice night, not too long after dusk. The thief was enjoying the best bits of Slateport while she had the chance. A Pansear stood beside where she sat, playfully juggling a few seashells he picked up during the walk. Lex was busy brushing the sand off her feet and slipping her sneakers back to notice the kids zoom by on their bikes.
It was only moments later that the whistle and pop of a firecracker caught her attention. Further down the pier the three children were laughing with their fists full of what seemed to be harmless fireworks. Lex leaned back, watching the night sky above them for the small pop of light that accompanied the kids’ fire crackers.
What she didn’t notice was the large box one of the kids lifted off his bike and onto the ground between them all. There was a prolonged silence as they excitedly huddled over the larger firework. Lex’s brows pinched in curiosity as to what they were so enthralled with. Her thoughts were soon answered by the excited shriek of children and the loud hiss of a full sized firework. But it wasn’t just one full blown firework, it was a whole box of fireworks. One those multi-packs where when you lit one fuse, a string of fireworks erupted.
The first streamed into the sky, exploding brilliantly above the pier. But the children failed to secure the box. And the power of that single firework knocked it right over. A few more fireworks exploded from the now sideways box, zooming across the pier like rockets. The children screamed, dodging them. The box spun around from the kick of another that hissed out and exploded at the end of the pier. Another firework spun the box in a different direction, now facing the tall, twisted shrine of the Sea Basin Pokemon, Kyogre.
The last few fireworks hissed towards the shrine, exploding in a brilliant array of colors as the grand finale. Flames immediately erupted around the shrine. The plethora of offerings kindled the small fire into a brilliant blaze quickly. Ironically, the water-type’s shrine was consuming in flames. The building beside it that housed some of the deity’s artifacts and worshipers was quick to accept some of the flames, “Oh shit,” she’d never be able to live with herself if she walked away from this. Lex reached out and sling the Pansear onto her shoulders. The fire-type grabbed onto her neck and leaned forward, watching the flames grow larger by the second.
People were starting to panic, running from burning building and shrine with no care for what happened to one another. Lex ran towards it, two pokeballs in hand. When she was close enough to feel the heat of the fire pressing against her bare skin, she stopped, releasing an Omastar and Carvanha, “Tank, use Surf to wet the ground to try and stop the spread,” she motioned towards the area around the shrine and building beside it, “Start over there,” she pointed towards where the fire was spreading quickest. The Carvanha nodded in understanding, rushing over towards the other side of the building. He summoned as much water as his current power would allow, washing it over the ground around the fire in an attempt to contain it, but there was only so much a small Carvanha could do.
An older gentleman exited the building, coughing and stumbling forward with his arms full of what looked like ancient scrolls. Lex caught him before he could fall, helping him to a nearby bench, “The scrolls! I have to save the scrolls!” he emptied his arm load onto the bench before trying to get up, “Oh no you don’t,” Lex insisted, making him sit back down, “C’mon Killian and Helix, let’s find those,” she pointed towards the scrolls. The Fire-type nodded in understanding, jumping form her shoulder and fearlessly entering the flames, “Clear me a path,” The Omastar Withdrew into his shell, rolling forward ahead of Lex. A stream of Briny water jetted out from between his beak, clearing a path for his trainer to follow the Pansear. Those scrolls were probably worth a lot of money if that man was willing to risk his life to save them from the flames.
hendrix emmersonTL;DR: Kids shooting off fireworks on the pier did it wrong and set the Kyogre shrine on fire. Her Carvanha is attempting to control the perimeter. Lex, her Pansear, and her Omastar are attempting to steal save some artifacts from inside at the request of a Kyogre priest.
