ROUTE 104: FLYING/WATER TYPES

Lulu was stressed, and reasonably so. The month had consisted of a major promotion and taking-on of immense responsibility, an entire flip of her already erratic sleeping schedule, a devolvement into minor alcoholism, and numerous nights of psychedelic trips. She had made a string of poor decisions—go figure. She found herself in questionable circumstances with multiple people. Mostly, she was concerned for her own safety; not from anyone she had gotten too close to, but from those she might not be aware were watching. Rocket. 

Granted, Lulu was a highly paranoid person. 

She was here because she needed pokemon which would help her escape in a pinch, because there she was, needing to watch her back yet again. The voice of Cillian Quinn  echoed in her head, still. Newly green eyes lingered on the ground instead of ahead, and she kicked up pebbles some as she walked leisurely, depression visible in her gait. Her houndoom walked at her heel.

An extremely sneaky cramorant had been eyeing them from the bushes, waiting for them to get within range before it regurgitated its recent lunch, rearing back its wild-eyed head.

The unsuspecting Lulu would feel the slime of a fish smack hard across the side of her face.

All the fires of Hell burned in her eyes as she turned to face the googly-eyed culprit. A month’s worth of pent-up aggression growled from her throat. “You’re going to regret that.”

“Get it.”

Grimacing as she wiped her face with her sleeve, she watched as the houndoom proceeded to inflict their revenge, delivering a series of CRUNCH attacks until the bird was an unconscious, bloody heap. Lulu eyed the body ruthlessly, retrieving a cigarette and lighting it.

ROUTE 104: FLYING/WATER TYPES

Smoke blew out from her nostrils as her face pinched, spotting a ducklett floating by in the water alongside the path. Her trust was shot.

Houndoom growled at it, even snapping some. Fire licked from its teeth as it was still wired on adrenaline from its last battle. The ducklett simply hiccupped a quack and continued on its way, blissfully unaffected by scowls and distant threats.

Lulu huffed and dragged on her cigarette until it was gone, pinched the cherry with burned fingers and pocketed the filter like a decent person for once.

Her eyes lowered to the hound, and she noted how he always seemed to match her mood. He was like a mirror. At his ruthless growling, she found amusement, and even laughed a little under her breath. He lightened the mood. Fish? Cramorant? Never heard of 'em.

He was her best, though she rarely sent him into battle. Houndoom was her most prized possession. A true companion in a world which had given her few, and far between.

“Do you want a name?”

Her expression was blank. Of course, so was his, as his red eyes blinked up at her curiously. She thought for a moment. This would be the first time she’d ever named a pokemon.

“Djall. You’re a demon like me.”

They both looked ahead, and kept walking. 

Eventually, the duo came upon a wartortle, withdrawn into its hard shell at the sight of them coming. They’d not seen it during their moment. With it tucked away and lying prone, it was a perfect target. She tossed a pokeball, hoping it would rather stay put than face the wrath of a demon’s teeth.
