There were several reasons that Sam could think of on why Greyson wouldn't come along, but he was relieved that Greyson oversaw them and thought him good company. Truth was, Sam did enjoy the company of competent people. And thus far, with the battle, Sam deduced that Greyson was in fact a competent person. Given he was the last man standing, after all.
