Eva waits on the beach, leaning back against an ancient Kanto native. He seems restless and irritated, as usual, despite her effort to keep him settled with calming strokes of her hand against his neck.

His attention snaps over the water, so does hers. She grins, watching the Charizard and rider dive towards the water is a brilliant blur of orange flames. It made her jealous, Knox couldn’t pull stunts like that just yet. She leaves the Aerodactyl’s side, which seems to agitate him even more, when Matias lands. The grin pulls into a big smile, “Matias, you do too,” she responds, but her attention is pulled past him and to the Charizard. Memories that had settled in the back of her mind like dust are stirred up into a cloud, “You look fantastic,” she holds out a hand to greet the familiar Charizard, “Those were some impressive moves up there, buddy.” If it would let her, she’d get close enough to hug its neck.

[attr="class","matias"]charizard remembers, too. how could it ever forget? it leans, craning its neck down enough to allow eva to wrap her arms around it for a hug. it even shifts closer, returning the hug the best it can despite its large frame.

matias looks on, appreciating the moment. it's easy to forget what they've all been through. it wasn't that long ago that they thought flying was no longer possible for the fire-type. but he peers at its wings now, fully healed and stronger than ever.

he's grateful.

"i appreciate the invite, eva. but,"

sparing a glance around them, he sees nothing out of the ordinary.

"what are we doing out here?"

A deep growl rumbles through the Aerodactyl’s throat. He snaps his jaw in defiance and jealousy as Eva wraps her arms around the Charizard’s neck. He paces like an angry Pyrorar but does not advance, “Quit, Knox, or I’m puttin’ you back,” there’s obvious irritation in her voice. This isn’t the first time he’s acted out. She gives the Charizard a parting pat and steps away, “He’s still learning manners,” she gives the Aerodactyl and icy glare.

Her smile brightens at the question. She kept details vague, they couldn’t have random people showing up to find the deity, “Oh! Well,” she grins in amusement, “I’ve gotta check up on Tapu Koko, you know, the electric island deity. It’s use to battling pretty regularly and gets pretty antsy when it isn’t challenged so they asked me to give it a good fight but,” she frowns, “I can’t take it on my own so,” she motions toward Matias, “Thought you might wanna fight a legendary with me,” not everyone would be into the idea but she had a hunch Matias would appreciate the opportunity.

[attr="class","matias"]he looks to her aerodactyl, showing it some form of respect and even goes as far as to bow his head slightly towards it. he knows the struggles all too well, so he nods, understanding.

"he looks strong. fierce."

good for battle — but he lets this thought go unvoiced.

his eyes widen at the mention of tapu koko, involuntary, and she lures him in with ease. but it's not like she has any problems doing that anyways. his grin mirrors hers, equally if not more amused.

"might?"

charizard seems to understand, too, and lets out a grunt as it shifts, foot clawing at the ground. it gazes around, extends its wings out, and prepares for a fight.

he laughs, then reaches over to place a hand on her shoulder, gentle.

"yes, eva. i will fight a legendary with you."

“He also looks like a huge pain in the ass,” there’s obvious frustration in her tone. His training has been challenging. Then again, he is an Aerodactyl. He’s strong, just defiant and inexperienced. Definitely not a candidate for battling Tapu Koko, “Get outta here, go hunt something,” she waves a hand towards the prehistoric creature until he takes off in a gust of wind.

Eva relishes in her companion’s amusement with a wide smile, she knew he’d love it, “Ok, great!” she nearly jumps out of her skin in excitement. Just like old times. She takes the hand he placed on her shoulder and, in typical Eva fashion, starts dragging him towards the edge of a rocky cliff that hangs over the water. It’s a dangerous drop below to violent waves that crash angrily against the rocks, “We gotta find ‘em first. It’s usually in one of the caves over here. Nice ocean views,” she grins back at him as a powerful rush of salty air batters them.

A flash of light releases a familiar Gallde, “Let ‘em know we’re here, Blade,” He nods, extending a quick glance towards Matias in recognition before extending his psyche outward, gently prodding against the Tapu’s mind.

[attr="class","matias"]he's in the middle of contemplating a strategy before he's pulled away, dragged towards the edge of a rocky cliff. the winds batter against them, threatening, but he stands his ground. he peers over the edge and swears he sees a small jolt of electricity dancing across the waters.

hm.

a large shadow casts over them — he peers up, sees clouds starting to form, and understands the subtle shift in weather. this isn't natural, not by any means.

"i think it knows."

Blade’s push awakens the Tapu from its slumber. The wind blows fiercely and electricity snaps through the air in pale yellow pops, “Yeah, I think it knows,” Eva joins Matias in peering over the edge of the cliff. It grows darker, and a shadow rushes out over the water, sparks dancing behind it.

Tapu Koko takes the long way around, settling behind them on the rocky cliff, encased in its shell. Cracks of electricity course down it’s body and across the ground like the roots of a tree. The air is literally electrifying. The feel of such power makes the doctor’s heart race. Her eyes widen in both awe and excitement at what comes next. She’s fixated on the thrill with a hungry grin that Matias might recognize. She’s ready for a fight.

Tapu’s shell slowly peels open and it leers at them with a similar, expectant grin. Eva glances towards Matias, “Ready?” The Tapu claps its shell together in a thunderous boom, an ELECTRIC TERRAIN tearing across the ground in response to Eva’s question. It is ready.

TAPU KOKO ACCEPTS YOUR CHALLENGE

[attr="class","matias"]he blinks and almost misses the rushing shadow encased in sparks of electricity. it travels across the air, static lingering even after it settles on a rocky cliff. the sight, the challenge, it all draws him in, filling him with undeniable spirit that she would recognize, too. he's ready for a fight.

and so is charizard.

"ready."

the crackle that sounds from the booming ELECTRIC TERRAIN does little to deter their resolve. charizard roars, pushes off the ground, then takes into the air. the flame on the end of its tail flickers, dimming for mere moments before something sparks around tapu koko.

a FIRE SPIN catches, looking to trap it in a fiery vortex.

matias looks to the skies, then to eva.

"it's summoning the rain."

Matias’s excitement rivals her own. It fuels her, bringing back a familiar feeling that sinks into all too easily. The spark of the ELECTRIC TERRAIN send a shock wave through her that makes her gasp. A hand reaches out, preparing Blade to fight. He’s cut short on his advance by the thunderous roar from Knox that rivals the boom of the Tapu’s shell. The Aerodactyl swoops into the battlefield in a purple blur, boosted by his AGILITY.

Eva said go hunt something, Knox chose the legendary. Great. She frowns, eyes looking up before she meets his gaze, “That’s not good,” they’ll have to be careful.

There’s a mixture of frustration and contemplation of a new strategy. Knox has made himself a target now with his defiance, she couldn’t switch pokemon now. Hopefully, the young fossil pokemon would listen and not be too reckless. Her eyes flash between the two pokemon. Two partial flying-types against an electric-type? Not ideal but hopefully they could manage.

Fire rips around the Tapu, buffeting its shell. It seems to pay it little mind as the storm clouds above them gather. Soon the field and air would be electrified and the rain would douse the flames. It grins, moving into attack position when a flash of light that is not its lightning catches its attention.

Knox has chosen his first move with little consideration. The Aerodactyl dives towards the Tapu with an open maw. Orange energy swirls between sharp teeth and explodes in a brilliant and powerful HYPER BEAM towards the legendary.



The Tapu closes its shell, partially protecting itself from the blast that drives it into the ground. Electricity CHARGES its body as it rights itself, eyes narrowed in fury. It rushes towards Knox for vengeance in a WILD CHARGE.

[attr="class","matias"]the rushing sight of the aerodactyl suddenly makes this fight more difficult. he watches the flash of brilliant orange, violent in how it travels across in a powerful HYPER BEAM. it causes charizard to halt mid-flight, redirecting off to the side right as tapu koko closes its shell for a CHARGE.

from charizard's maws, a thick SMOKESCREEN spews out, clouding the aerodactyl just enough to give it a fighting chance to avoid the WILD CHARGE. the rain quickly dampens it, however, causing the cloud of SMOKESCREEN to fall to the ground, useless.

"they'll need to work together."

but how? charizard and blade made the most sense for they've fought together. they know each other's strengths and weaknesses. the only thing charizard, and by extension matias, knows about the aerodactyl is that it's headstrong, fierce, and stubborn.

not unlike matias.

"any ideas?"

right as he speaks, a surge of electricity jolts across the battlefield, pulsing in a SHOCK WAVE that looks to swallow them whole. by sheer instinct, matias snaps a hand, cracks open a pokeball, and from it comes an instant shield of PROTECT that wraps around the three of them, blade included. the cloyster materializes, then is swiftly recalled all the same.

rain continues to pour down all around them.

Eva grunts in frustration, fists clenched into tight balls as the Hyper Beam tears across the darkening background towards the Tapu. It’s a hit, but it also left Knox vulnerable and Tapu Koko furious. The Charizard saves Knox from a devastating blow with the SMOKESCREEN. The Aerodactyl, thanks to its boost from AGILITY as well, is able to dive out of Tapu Koko’s path. Naturally, that just made the pokemon even more furious.

She lets the breath out she’s been holding before glancing apologetically over to Matias. She should have just fucking returned him instead of letting him go free. Rookie mistake on her part. Eva bites her lip, turning her eyes back to the pokemon and the battle field, contemplating, strategizing, “Gimme a minute,” she mutters in response, barely audible above the rush of the increasing winds that slowly threaten to them right off the cliff.

Deep in thought, she doesn’t see the SHOCK WAVE. Blade moves in front of them to protect, but Matias’s Cloyster beats him to it. The Gallde give the man a nod of thanks. The shock of the attack broke her from her thoughts, but not for long. Both were strong flyers and fighters. The duo lacked the support Blade would have given them, but perhaps they could make this work.

“I think our best shot’s a series of bait maneuvers and flank attacks,” she speaks loud over the roar of the rain, taking a step closer to him, “It can only chase one of them at a time,” she wipes wet hair out of her face, “You got a better idea?” she’s hopeful he does.

Still recovering from the Hyper Beam, Knox is useless. He fights against the winds, riding the chaos of them to keep out of reach of the legendary that chases him in frustration with another WILD CHARGE. Luckily, he’s faster than Tapu Koko thanks to the AGILITY. For now.

[attr="class","matias"]howling winds and drenching rain makes it difficult for charizard to do much; the flame on the end of its tail still holding strong despite the horrid conditions. it floats left, dodging the SHOCK WAVE with relative ease, but hovers close as it awaits orders.

he takes a step closer towards her, nodding at her words. given their lack of cohesion and charizard's dwindling effectiveness in this weather, their game plan's limited at best. but he settles on one that just might work.

actually, he's confident it will.

"our best shot at taking it down is with knox's HYPER BEAM."

the wild chase plays out in front of them. he watches it with keen interest, observing and analyzing.

"ash can slow it down enough when the time comes, but until then, we'll need to draw its attention away."

and that's on him to do so. he meets eva's gaze, reflecting a fire familiar to both of them. it shows in the way his grin holds despite the odds against them.

"make it chase you, ash!"

his voice carries strong through the rain. charizard nods, then soars straight at tapu koko, bellowing out a hot FLAMETHOWER that licks at its skin. it whizzes straight past tapu koko with a SLASH, baiting.

She considers. Hyper Beam is a good idea, especially considering the rain won’t buffet its power. It’ll wear Knox out quickly but as long as he can make sure the attacks hit, they might be ok. Paralysis was another concern of hers. Between the rain and the legendry’s powerful moves, it was a serious complication. If the attack didn’t get them, the fall from the sky might.

It’s their best shot though, so they have to take it.

She looks back at him, catching the fierce fire in his eyes that challenges her own. Despite the harsh, cold winds and rain soaking her to the bone she feels a heat rising with the adrenaline that reminds her of their time fighting together in Kanto. Among other things.

“Knox!” she draws the Aerodactyl’s attention as Ash baits Tapu Koko off his trail with a SLASH. The Aerodactyl approaches, agitated and anxious to get back. It complies, nonetheless, “Ash is gonna bait it, you chase it and hit it with HYPER BEAM,” a strong, commanding voice that is reserved for battle breaks through the roar of the rain.

He doesn’t indicate he understands at all, the winds make it hard to stay in one place. The Aerodactyl returns to the fight, flanking Tapu Koko as it chases the Charizard. The high winds make it hard to keep a predictable path, but he does his best. Energy drips from his jowls like drool as the predator waits for the opportune moment to strike at its prey.
