[break][break] The twenty-year old looked up from his work in the lab, blinking at the Head Scientist who had given him the command. It was not an unusual request — Nikolai had spent more than enough time in the laboratory to be able to give the new recruits a briefing — and occasionally, a lashing.

[break][break] "Of course, sir," the young man said, with a nod.

[break][break] It was then the doors slid open to reveal the new recruit:

Raphael was a tad bit nervous. While working in the Rocket Labs was something he had rather be doing over field work, since joining Rocket the organization has put him on edge. Though it was a feeling at least, something he hasn't felt before the organization and he was determined to keep it. [break][break]

Okay, he's well shaven, hair brushed back, glasses are clean. Raphael goes through his mental list yet again before he takes a deep breath. This was about as good as it was going to get. So finally after probably a few minutes of him just standing in front of the too nervous to just go in right away. [break][break]

As he enters its clear how new he is as he is unfamiliar with everyone here. He was just told to report to this lab, Raphael looks round the entrance only seeing one person who didn't seem as busy as the others. Were they waiting? "Morning," he greets for now, "I'm Raphael Pryde, I was told to come here for Dr.Hargrove?"

It's only a matter of time, but soon the door opens. Out slides the recruit in question, a many by the names of Raphael Pryde . A file lays by the young scientist's side, where he was given his task objectives and the information he would need to know on the other. It was nothing all that interesting — pretty simple as far as new recruits went.

[break][break] As the other approaches, "Nikolai" turns to meet him. In his hands, the paper shuffle as he knocks the folder - once, twice, a third time - against the linoleum table.

[break][break] "Nikolai Cross." He reaches his hand out to shake, and should Raphael accept, he would find Nikolai's grip firm and assured. His posture, of course, impeccable.

[break][break] "Dr. Hargrove had something to attend to," he said, pointing to a nearby stool with the folder. "I'll be taking over your intake for today. Is that alright?"

Well that was a shame, though he supposes he can’t expect the head of the labs to greet some newbie. As the other gives his hand Pryde would play nice, smiling as he shakes hands with the other. The other would find his grip strong and confident. He had no reason to back down now. [break][break]

”Far be it for me to object to the boss’s schedule Mr. Cross,” he’ll tilt his head, “Or is it doctor already?” personally he didn’t see the other having such a title as they seemed about his age. Though who knows nowadays. “Are you one of his assistants as well?” he asked curiously, wanting to know the other’s place. [break][break]

All so he could play this game properly.

"Nikolai is just fine, Raphael."

[break][break] The Team Rocket scientist does not bother answering the other questions — the fact that he finds himself in a Rocket laboratory should be answer enough. Instead, he turns and leans down against the linoleum to scribble some more notes on a sheet of paper. Nothing to do with the new recruit's file, of course.

[break][break] Probably.

[break][break] "I've been working with Dr. Hargrave for a little while, but not too long. Have you heard of his work?" the man says inside, looking this time at Raphael Pryde directly. "Would you mind —?" He points to a vial sitting just behind where the other stands, hand splayed out.

[break][break] When it's handed back, he collects it with the rest of the vials, all with indiscreet serial codes on them.

[break][break] "Now with that out of the way. First things first. Is there anything you would like to know about Rocket, Raphael?"

[break][break] Best to get the obvious out of the way.

Raphael just gives a nod, both in terms about the name and having heard some of what Dr Hargrove. ”I’ve heard of just experiments on pokemon, though I don’t know what particularly he works on,” he clarifies, looking over at the vial and handing it over. [break][break]

He ponders for a moment when asked. Taking a moment to consider as he has been with Rocket for a bit now. Quite overwhelming in some aspects. ”I suppose if anything it would be if while in labs am I still expected to do the same type of missions as before? Or will I be allowed to focus here?”

It's not terrible informative, but it'll do.

[break][break] After all, there are reasons why they keep things in the lab within the lab for a reason. And Raphael will soon learn what that means. Nikolai isn't worried.

[break][break] His words spark a flash of interest within the scientist's blood-red gaze. Something greedy, nearly bloodthirsty. It disappears in a flicker of an instant, smoothing over into practiced politeness.

[break][break] "Well," he says, humming. "It depends on what leadership wants, as you know. Generally, we have our hands full here — Dr. Hargrave makes sure of that." Nikolai Cross' pools of scarlet meet that of Raphael Pryde. "What are you ambitions, Raphael?"

Crimson eyes slightly narrow behind his glasses, pretty sure he saw something behind the other's eyes. Though his reading of other's is no where as good as it would be in the future. His education wasn't complete, and so he knows he would still need to keep on top of that as well as this. [break][break]

So for now he listens, makes sure to give his interviewer his attention and focus seeing as he rather not be kicked out before he had the chance to do anything. He ponders the question for a moment, thinking how best to answer. The question itself feeling quite close to whenever he was asked 'why did you join?' [break][break]

So does he answer in a similar fashion? [break][break]

"My ambition is power," he finally decides to answer, "For the glory of Rocket of course, and I believe science is the best way to achieve it."
