Emma sits, or rather, leans, against a rail above the training grounds. She's hidden behind a window and the lights are off both in her viewing area and on the training ground itself. Her eyes are still sensitive to the light, and this was both an advantage for her and a good opportunity to teach for the man below.[break][break]

He strides in with purpose, with a rage displaced by each step he takes.[break][break]

Her voice could be heard over the comms system in the room. Beady eyes shine through the dark, lingering on his silhouette. He asks if any 'fuckers' are going to show up, and the bitterness in his tone only adds to the enjoyment Emma might find later.[break][break]

She quite enjoyed when her trainees were agitated. It just meant they had more potential- they were bolder than the ones who shied away from her training.[break][break]

King is given no response at all to counteract his threats. Emma isn't so low as to breathe life into his rage, she's only here to see what potential he might have. [break][break]

So far, she wasn't altogether impressed. The guy had a mouth on him, but the chances that he was skilled both verbally and physically were slim. It was always one, not both.[break][break]

In the time it takes Wayland to shake himself out, the Hitmonlee has already advanced. The Pokemon opens with a low sweep, attempting to take him out at the knees. But the Pokemon doesn't hold back and isn't altogether disoriented by the lack of light.[break][break]

This wasn't his first in-the-dark rodeo.[break][break]

the LOW SWEEP takes him in the ankles, as gravity does the rest. king falls on his side, using his arms and hands to catch him. the strain of his weight lands around his wrist and he feels a throbbing pain on the joint.

Emma's chin lifts, and although she cannot see, she can hear his body hit the ground. It brings her no joy, and her expression remains neutral- not that he could see her. [break][break]

Hitmonlee hesitates only for a moment, waiting for the retaliation. There is a build-up of frustration, of anger. It crackles in the space between them like electricity, super-charged and clearly tracks what King's next move will be. He is clumsy and slow, lashing out like a trapped viper, all fangs, no plan.[break][break]

"You aren't taking this seriously."[break][break]

The Pokemon side-steps and backs up, putting space between them as the man pulls himself to his feet with a somersault back-flip kick-flip. [break][break]

everyday for the past four years. that is how long he has been angry. at her. at matias. at the league. at himself. king was, by this point, used to the feeling. it comforted him. he wrapped himself in the veil of his hatred because it grounded him on days when he felt like drowning. emma wouldn't change this. not today. maybe not ever.

standing, his mind goes back to how many hours of combat that he, xen and luc put in together. how many days of cumulative training did he get his ass beat? compared to that... this? this was nothing.

king cracks his neck in the pitch black, using his anger as a center of focus. he wasn't the best fighter in hoenn. or kanto. and probably not even rocket. but he could fight. he'd beat this potato shaped fucker (not that he could see it) back to the mcdonanld's fryer.

What she's doing is intentional: aggravating him, setting fire to his anger in the hopes that he might hold it outside of his chest and tightly in his hands instead. To use it, rather than feel it. [break][break]

Hitmonlee up until this point has remained nearly motionless, calculating his breathing, his subtle twitches in movement. Emma watches, or rather, listens. There is a renewed crackle of energy, an anticipation that hangs in the air less like dread and more like.. understanding.[break][break]

shrouded in the darkness, his hackles rise, and the blood pumps into his ears like thunder. the urge to panic is instinctual; like the panic you felt at falling, or the desire to run when coming face to face with something much larger than yourself. not even king is immune to those feelings. but deep inside of himself he suffocates the weakness. buries it so deep that it has no choice but to claw it's way back up.

but by then, he'd be done here.

the sound of the pokemon approaching sends alarm bells in his head, but he doesn't move. king holds his guard and centers his body further. it was a foolish notion to think he could block every incoming strike of the CLOSE COMBAT. but he could fight back. find his moments. listen to the shifts in it's footwork. the subtle flows of air when it turned its body.

so he does. for every two hits in his direction he throws another back. king finds purchase for nearly all of them, but so does the hitmonlee. a particularly strong kick aimed at his shoulder nearly dislocates it, but the rocket spits blood in its face and keeps up the assault.

when the two finally break free, king sports a number of wounds he can't see. a busted lip; a sprained wrist; a forming black-eye, and more. but he knows the other pokemon wasn't unscathed, either.

"y'dont hit so bad." he smirks, blood training down his chin. "for a dickless fuck."

he doesn't strafe left, like emma orders. his instincts scream at him to obey— to sacrifice his pride for the sake of survival. but he doesn't. few would understand his reasoning. too many thought they could, but, they would fail.

he takes the BRICK BREAK on the shoulder, a scream ripping from his throat. the force pushes him in the opposite direction and sprawling onto the floor. tears string his eyes, but he only clenches his jaw, teeth stained crimson beneath the veil of black.

with the resolve of an aggron, king stands again, one arm hanging a bit more loosely at his side. he spits blood, but taunts the fighting-type none the less.

Emma wasn't trying to set him up for failure. What would be the point of that? What would be the point of her wasting her time out here just to make this guy look like a complete idiot? There wasn't one.[break][break]

But it seemed that he was willing to set that up all on his own. She can hear the crunch of bone as the Hitmonlee strikes true. It steps back, prepared for the returning strike, but instead the man is a crumpled mess on the floor. [break][break]

"Yeah, well, I can't."[break][break]

The lights flick on and she refits herself with her sunglasses that block out nearly all light. She recalls the Hitmonlee to Rocket's arsenal and clicks off the comms. He would hear it disconnect, and personnel would arrive in the arena to hover over him. Whether he let them touch him was another story.[break][break]

Emma, on the other hand, is now on King's level and heading toward the door.[break][break]

king's chest rises and fall heavily. a testament to the power the hitmonlee possessed in its kicks. any normal human wouldn't have pushed him to the limits so quickly, other than perhaps MATIAS SILPH — but even then he wouldn't have done this much damage.

men and women crowd him, some with med-kits, other with clipboards and papers. none of them matter. his eyes push past and onto the woman whose walking away.

he speaks barely above a whisper. those around him stop, straining. he doesn't care. he pushes.

"GET BACK HERE."

it comes in a roar; primal and angry. his one good arm reaches out to toss a particularly brave man to the ground, his supplies spreading across the crimson stained floor.

he's move towards her, teeth grinding. he wipes blood-laced spit from his chin.

"that i give a single arceus given shit about bein' an asset?"

the men and women around him seem alarmed. some reach for their phones, others move away; anything to put space between them and king.

"i don't need two arms to beat the fuckin' life out've'ya."

Emma doesn't stop. She hears him, even through the murmurs and complaints from the people in the room. But she doesn't stop because she has no reason to. His threats, the wet sound of blood his teeth and the daggers in the back of her head aren't enough for her to slow down.[break][break]

He isn't worth her time.[break][break]

She only stops when he shouts because his room captivates the entire area. It echoes, startling the men and their clipboards, prompting the nurses to drop their supplies. [break][break]

The sound of a man hitting the floor encourages her to draw breath. She squares her shoulders, taking the time to calculate how much time she had before he caught up with her. She's vulnerable, an injured dog being hunted down by a blundering predator.[break][break]

"Yes, I do, Wayland. If you hadn't cared you wouldn't have shown up. And you wouldn't be channeling your humiliation into a misdirected rage. It isn't me you're mad at, we both know that."[break][break]

The fact that no one comes to her rescue is no surprise. Most of them seem to scatter, pretending they do not see, choosing to mop up the blood and count missing teeth.

"You aren't ready for what I can offer you. This is waste of my time."
