she waited until everyone else seemed to be back in town before venturing out. the event in full swing was not her cup of tea, yet she partook slightly. still, the beach was an opportune moment to capture some strong Pokémon. Siobhan was not going back to HQ without something to show for her efforts.

the woman roams along the shore, kicking a few stray shells and pebbles into the ocean. no one could protest that Hoenn was not beautiful, especially in the throws of chaos. this was downtime, though. she sighs softly, letting her quiet vocals echo in the air around her. if she was to partake in the next big thing, she needed strong Pokémon.

time to hunt.

Unlike the vast, calm waters of Lake Valor or Acuity, the ocean is an untameable beast that seeks to consume all. It lays asleep at times, a peaceful giant that invites all to wander in its crystalline wonderland but never quite slumbers with both eyes shut. And perhaps, it's this aura that draws people in, a whirlpool of mysteries hidden underneath those rippling tides that come from afar.

The stone stays cold in his palms, its surfaces smoothed by the endless ebb and flow of waves and its beauty accentuated by the light draped over. Idle hands seem to obsess with the spinning of the rock but Ryuuzaki's attention is far from stolen by this creation of nature. Instead, his eyes wander, his senses keen on rooting out the unnatural scent that lingers in the air -

Melancholy? Restlessness? Perhaps, a desire?

His footsteps are silent as he approaches, the sands barely rustled out of sheer habit.

"Alone on such a beautiful day, Madame?" Mischief decorates his presence as does a smile on his lips, but nothing betrays the thought that lies beneath. Names, faces, histories and connections - There is rarely a person that joins Rocket without him knowing and siobhan burke is hardly an exception to this rule. Regardless, he errs on the side of caution, feigning ignorance in the face of a relative 'stranger'

the beginning of night was a lovely time. a duality between night and day. a sliver of the past hours shining through before nocturne beckoned. she turned at the voice, her stare blank as she gazed upon the young man. "bland enough" Siobhan replies to his inquiry "I prefer a good book over extracurriculars."

that was when she spotted the being. abandoning talk with the human, her attention shifted to the Mareanie. the coloring - different. the hues a brilliant crimson. before the man could react to the shiny specimen, she called out her Corviknight. Poe made quick work of the creature - Hone Claws used to boost his attack before diving forward with Drill Peck.

the Mareanie was felled. Siobhan tossed a Pokeball at it, the light engulfing it. "though it seems your presence is a lucky one" she goes on, turning back to the man "if you have nothing better to do, you may accompany me?"

What is a folklorist without their love for literature? What is a supposed weird child without their little tics and inherently strange behaviour? Well, it would have been considered weird had Ryuuzaki not noticed the shiny Mareanie that she'd been lured towards. Not wishing to rob another of their find, he stands by the side and watches with mild interest, wincing just slightly at the starfish's fate.

"Don't worry, we call a truce and you get berries, deal?"

His words aren't directed to Siobhan but rather, the quivering Poliwag beside him, his voice lowering to a hum as he kneels down. When approaching a shaken creature, always try to put yourself at eye level and make yourself seem to be around the same size as the one being interacted with. Reaching into his pocket, Ryuuzaki slowly pulls out a variety of bite-sized snacks and offers it to the tadpole, allowing time for the Poliwag to familiarise itself with the scents.

"Funny you say that, cos most monikers I have usually allude to my bad luck. But I suppose I can't quite turn down a mademoiselle's request." As soon as he garners a little trust, he's turning his attention back to Siobhan, a goofy grin kept as the Poliwag inhales the treats presented.

with her fortunate find safely pocketed, she turns her attention back to the young man. "Siobhan" she smiles thinly. most did not usually say 'nice to meet you'. especially after getting to know her "it is nice to meet you as well, Ryuuzaki. what is the meaning behind your name, if I may ask?"

she had a very good investment in the meanings behind names.

the Mudkip was also very tempting but she let it be, focusing on the landscape and wishing to capture something more her speed. poison types were favorable to her, considering she wanted to obtain a Salazzle one day. the shiny specimen would be suitable for now. "the mademoiselle would be thankful for the company." she adds to him.

The meaning behind his name? Now that's a topic that he rarely chances upon but of course, he can't exactly feel comfortable with calling himself a nerd without having the answer to such a question, can he now?

"Well, the literal translation would be dragon peninsula. The more figurative translation I've heard is ruler of the capes, which is mostly indicative of my parent's blessings and wishes." Answered just like a true smartass, Ryuuzaki offers Siobhan a shrug. "Can't say I've lived up to their expectations thus far but let's not focus on that."

Following her gaze, it doesn't take long for him to spy the Mudkip as well, a hand slipping into his pockets as Sheena buzzes free of its confines. All it takes is him retrieving a pokeball for her to understand, the Cutiefly zipping over to the Mudkip and scattering spores all around it, stunning the creature as Ryuuzaki takes his shot.

"Siobhan" she would say now "means god is gracious" though what god indeed when there were so many here? "and Burke, my surname, is fortified." so basically; the fortified god is gracious. a very divine name indeed.

she could not help but smile wryly at his assessment of parentage. "I doubt my parents had any meaning in mind; just that it 'sounded pretty' to them." her mother had been absent for most of her life, and Siobhan assumed she was named by the woman.

"though a good name for a water or dragon type trainer" she gives Ryuuzaki.

the Primarina is noticed and she wastes no time. already pumped from his previous attack, Corviknight dove at the mermaid. he made quick work of the water-type, a few Drill Pecks making it faint easily.

she would toss a Pokeball at it, attempting to capture.

Divinity is but an illusion in the eyes of non-believers. Had gods truly been present and gracious as people had said, would Kanto really have fallen to Rocket's invasion? Would many of those in Rockets have been provided an alternative path over their demise? Would more people have found salvation if the gods had cared to answer their prayers?

"I guess it is. I never really thought about it that way. I've just loved the ocean and the life it brings for as long as I've remembered. What about you though? Any particular preference of pokemon? Perhaps, ghosts to fit your storytelling atmosphere?"

His eyes briefly linger on the Swirlix that sways nearby, a hand gently patting the head of his Poliwag as he notes Sheena's advance. She dances around the poor creature, letting out a loud Bug Buzz and haphazardly flying into her. Perhaps, the Cutiefly doesn't quite enjoy the idea of having another fairy present? Regardless, Ryuuzaki is quick to recall the tiny bug with a flash of light, pocketing the pokeball as he cautiously approaches the terrified Swirlix.

"Hey..." An outstretched palm is met with a flinch, and consequently a slowing of his movements. Softening his gaze, the man simply allows his hand to remain a distance before the Swirlix, inviting the pokemon to approach him at her own discretion. Eventually she does, gingerly sniffing his hand as he takes the opportunity to run his fingers through her fur. "It's okay now... Didn't mean to scare you and all."

"I prefer ghosts, yes" she would reply to his assessment "though dragons, fairies, dark types... all are equally acceptable to me." if she could find more types that had a duality it would cover more bases.

she was mildly impressed with the way the young man was capturing his beasts. he preferred to befriend over violent acts, but Siobhan unfortunately had to train her Pokémon. that was the only way to gain experience.

she was not so confident enough for battles. "you prefer water-types?" she would ask him.

"Water-types, ice-types. I love those two the best but I definitely keep my eyes out for pokemon with curing abilities. After all, it's a medic's job to heal, not hurt."

His body processes his environment faster than his mind does, an arm sweeping the Swirlix tighter to his body as the claw of a Clauncher clamps down on the other. Pain is bitten back with a visible hiss, a quick inhale taken in as he steadies his grip on the pink fairy.

A Glaceon appears in a flash of light, a wild yowl tearing through the air as she sinks Icy Fangs right into the Clauncher. Being caught off guard, the shrimp is more than convinced to let go, finding himself tossed back into the water and frozen into an ice cube for seemingly good measure. Before the Glaceon can possibly continue to exact her wrath, Ryuuzaki tosses a pokeball to secure the Clauncher, wincing just slightly as the pain spikes with movement.

"Calm down, Skadi. No one's seriously hurt." As if proving his point, he moves his hand arm about with utmost care, clenching and stretching his fingers before her very eyes. "See, I'm alright."

She clearly still has her fur ruffled, but Skadi accepts the assessment with a huff and a cold flick of her tail.

"Can't say that my pokemon are always on the same wavelength as me though. Some of them are real feisty, like princess icy over here. She loves the battlefield while some of my calmer companions prefer to hang around and play with the rescued pokemon my workplace has."
