By the time Captain Dross arrives at the makeshift arena haphazardly built on the pale white sands of Slateport Beach, she's already got a few under her belt. Battles and drinks, that is. And while the sun is making its descent towards the horizon and casting longer shadows over the outcroppings of rock littering the battlefield, the tournament is still as lively as it'd been in the morning.

A hand is raised in what might constitute at best as a half-hearted wave as cheers filter down into the arena.

The captain has her battle face on, twin stripes of charcoal black darkening her rosy tinted cheeks and a blue bandana over her forehead - the words 'RED TEAM SUCKZ' long faded by now, but promising defeat to any who dare oppose her. That, and the paintball gun she's lovingly cradling in her arms. All ready to go.

Dorado really should've been here.

"Y'all landlubbers are going down." Her statement is punctuated by a fierce grin - growing sharper when she catches sight of angelo vestri and Laurence Anderson - and by a dribble of ink from the Octillery currently hugging her like a calamari-smelling backpack.

“Not if you go down first!”

Lars had picked up a paintball gun prior to entering this arena—it was going to be a mess, since this was going to be a free-for-all, he knew that his best chance of surviving this mess was with a Pokémon that had moves that could be used in defensive manner.

So of course, he was packing along Ryujin, his Swampert. Best chance of survival in a beach setting? Bring a Pokémon that has characteristics of the area!

Damn, those Biome contests were starting to rub off on him. Maybe he should join the next one…

The Swampert leered at the Octillery, before punching her fists together in challenge.

Due to the fact that they were going to be running around and shooting the hell out of each other with paintball guns, Lars had to ditch the vape and had to fall back on a cigarette in the meanwhile.

He was dying for a smoke, can you blame him.

Still wearing his knock-off Laurence Anderson and Articuno t-shirt from earlier in the day, Angelo emerges onto the sand with some additional merchandise. [break][break]

With a red bandana over his head from the tug of war and sunglasses over his eyes, Angelo holds his water pistol in one hand, leaning it against his shoulder like he’s been copy-pasted from some old, cheesy action flick. In his mouth however is the centre piece: a vape pipe that’s fashioned to look like the one a certain famous head ranger sports, with a cool blue bird print along the sides. [break][break]

Angelo exhales and even though Articuno is an ice type, bubbles pop out of the top. (Don't smoke, kids!) [break][break]

“What d'you think, Lars? Cool, huh?”[break][break]

It’s then that his chosen companion for the paintball battle of the century would materialise, soaring down from the skies and over the spectator’s heads with a whoosh.[break][break]

skyler dross was going to hate him.[break][break]

Perfect.[break][break]

Echo hovers behind him, looking about as enthusiastic as a football fan who’d been dragged to the ballet on the day of a big match. Inky and Blinky the Dreepy however, peering out of her ejector ports with tiny water pistols strapped onto their heads, looked ecstatic. [break][break]

Their excited warbling increases a notch higher when they spot their favourite playmate. [break][break]

“You’re telling me, Dross... But I think your smell will take me out before your paintballs do. Ocean's back that way.”

[break][break] Flynn has no fucking idea how he's gotten himself into this situation, but there he stands, in the middle of the so-called "arena". The man's anything but a fashion expert, but some poor salesman had gotten a hold of him, and he stands there wearing a sports jacket with the adorable face of Laurence Anderson pasted behind it. Other than, Flynn wears nothing else, save for swim shorts — it's fucking hot.

[break][break] It doesn't occur to him that the fact is anything but a walking advertisement for some celebrity until angelo vestri walks upon the scene, bubbling vape pipe and all.

[break][break] Flynn stares at Laurence Anderson , deadpan. If silence could kill, maybe his would. 'You a fucking celeb, man?' It does not occur to Flynn that he - too - is supporting official-unofficial merchandise. In addition to the jacket, he sports a GREEN headband wrapped around his neck. He crosses his arm in a signature scowl, watching two of his opponents flirt with each other. He resists the urge to roll his eyes.

[break][break] Beside him, his Cloyster glances at him knowingly.

[break][break] But despite all his complaints, Flynn isn't a flashy person. They'll wait until the fight really begins.

Captain Skyler Dross looks at the floating Dragapult with all the joy of someone who just was told that their favorite tv show had been permanently canceled. For a sliver of a second the captain's face seems to go on a whole journey through all the stages of grief - except that Skyler gets stuck on one particular emotion, as she is wont to do.

Furious silver eyes cut through the competition to land on a particular blue-eyed annoyance (angelo vestri ), expertly ignoring the popping bubbles and the pipe and all the... apparatus (which, to be fair, is quite hard to do, except that Skyler was a woman on a mission). Her heated glare, if anything, promises agonizing torment and death to the current bane of her existence. "Didn't complain last night, did you, Angel?"

Then, turning briefly to face Laurence Anderson . "Hey, guess what Aunt Jules sold me. Limited edition." And, with a flourish that nearly sends the article of clothing flying, Skyler Dross reveals what appears to be... a thong. What little fabric there is showcases a winking Lars, very clearly photoshopped. Skyler wastes no time before wrapping it around her fist and using it to tie her hair back.

"Hey, dude." There's no warning before the paintball gun's suddenly in her grip, aimed at the only person she doesn't know (kris flynn-edwards ). "Nice to meet you." And with that, the captain pulls the trigger, diving immediately right behind a nearby rock.

The Octillery, on the other hand, sends a beam of ice sailing through the air at Angelo's ghostly dragon (ICE BEAM).

His first reaction was—

“Sky, what the fuck are you doing don’t strip down in the—” he exclaimed before said article of clothing was sent flying away, far, far away and—

Okay, this was getting really ridiculous. The knock-off shirts were bad enough, but this?

This?

He then pinched the bridge of his nose to quell the raging tirade of swears that even the deity was now screaming in the back of his head.

“What the fuck!” was all he had time to say before loading the gun and going right after Skyler, aiming a shot at her before the Swampert went wide and suddenly busted out a defensively-timed Rock Slide, causing the boulders to form one new obstacle which he dove behind for protection.

“Geez!” was what he said next once the Swampert had summoned enough rocks and haphazardly formed them into a dome of sorts.

‘Forgive the Kalosian, but what the fuck was that?!’

‘Don’t ask me!’ he screamed in his head, listening for the sounds of cackling or paintballs flying.

Tucking the novelty pipe into his pocket, saving it for tormenting shenanigans later, Angelo flashes a slow smirk in response to skyler dross’s counter. Trailing his gaze equally languidly over her, as if in thought – or lost in a memory. [break][break]

“I would've, but you were feeling talkative and I didn't want to interrupt. Remember?” [break][break]

Their match kicks off with the flag wave of a Laurence Anderson and Articuno thong and said man’s screams. [break][break]

Echo huffs before snaking through the air, avoiding the ICE BEAM shot in her direction by gracefully diving through a PHANTOM FORCE portal. Angelo leaps in after her into the inky darkness, the door closing behind them as they disappear off the battlefield. [break][break]

He jumps out from behind kris flynn-edwards a few seconds later with a grin and the barrel of his paintgun aimed towards the stranger in the group, firing a couple of shots towards him. [break][break]

POP! POP! POP![break][break]

“Hey, man. Nice to meet ya! Duck!” He warns, after the fact.

No, this was like going to a sleepover that only your mom made you go to, but no one actually wanted you there. So you were the new kid, and everyone played pranks on you.

[break][break] Or at least, that's how it felt.

[break][break] "Fuck!" Flynn says, rolling to the side as skyler dross 's gun aims for him. Blue paint explodes against the rock behind him, just barely missing. He throws a vicious glare at the captain immediately, but it's useless because she's already dove behind a rock.

[break][break] At least the Laurence Anderson guy had his back. Sort of. He was probably just looking for his own ass as well.

[break][break] Flynn's distracted enough that he doesn't notice when angelo vestri comes out of a fucking portal, and also shoots at him. Luckily, his pokemon seems to have his back, throwing up a shield of PROTECT. Red paint splatters against the invisible barrier, before sliding down and dropping to the ground.

[break][break] The police officer raises his arm, aiming for the brunette's shitty ass grin. "Fuck you, man." BAM, BAM, BAM!

The smart thing would've been to start an alliance and betray them later on. The smart thing to do would've been to focus her fire on a single target at the time so that she could make sure someone went down before her. But Captain Dross had never been the smartest cookie. Revenge is sweeter than victory. Sometimes.

To get both would've been perfect.

As soon as Skyler ducks behind the rock, she witnesses a certain angelo vestri popping out of a nearby ghostly void to attack the new guy. It appears kris flynn-edwards has nothing to worry about however - Skyler wouldn't gang up on him now that she has a new blue-eyed target in mind... and so close to her too.

Talkative, her ass...

She seizes the fact that kris flynn-edwards is attacking Angelo too to peek out from over the rock with her gun in hand, shit-eating grin in place as she takes a couple of shots in the courier's direction. Stuck to her back, Octillery is keeping watch, its tentacles waving around as it catches sight of Laurence Anderson . With no warning, it spews out a SIGNAL BEAM towards the nearby Swampert.

“Take them out!” was all Lars could shout as Angelo appeared from the shadows—what a cheater—and then opened fire on the other brunette. Looks like this was going to be a two-on-two, for now.

As the Swampert held the line, a sudden buzzing noise was the alarm for the other to throw up a Protective shield as he leaned out from one side of the rock formation where he’d ducked and hunkered down—

Before firing several random paintball shots at random in the general direction of where Skyler was.

This definitely was war!

kris flynn-edwards’s paintballs fly, narrowly missing Angelo as an unimpressed looking Echo pushes him down into the dirt. Whether it’s an act to save his ass from the barrage of pellets that fly over his head from two different sides or because she’s pissed about the situation, is debatable. [break][break]

Angelo takes the opportunity to scramble behind a nearby rock, teeth gritted in something between a smirk and grimace before turning his gun towards Laurence Anderson. There’s a horrified gasp from the Laurence Anderson and Articuno fan club in the stands as he shoots towards their dreamboat. [break][break]

“Kiss your fans goodbye, Lars!” [break][break]

Exploding out of the ejector ports, the Dreepy DRAGON DARTS hone in one skyler dross. Their tiny little paintballs peppering at her as they emerge over the top of the rock she lurks behind.

[break][break] There's almost something like a grin on Flynn's face as he watches the other man duck — or rather, be squished down and saved by his pokemon. Either way, his own shots miss narrowly, but it wasn't because of his bad aim.

Apparently unconcerned with betraying her position to everyone in her vicinity, Captain Dross stumbles back at the array of paint that is suddenly sent her way. Thankfully Laurence Anderson is still far enough away that his attack goes wide, although Skyler does have to dance away from some of the projectiles.

That becomes a little bit more difficult to do when angelo vestri 's Dreepy come to attack, little bags of paint held in their tiny paws. Before Skyler has time to react, the Octillery attached to her back lunges into motion, its hollow snout shooting out GUNK SHOTS at the little mischievous Dreepys - playing a game to see who would hit who first.

As this is happening, kris flynn-edwards materializes on top of a nearby rock, paintball gun centered on her. There's a few seconds of delay between this happening and her brain processing all the information - so by the time the policeman unleashes his multicolored wrath upon her, rambo-style, the only thing Captain Dross can do is stumble backwards ungracefully between a swirling vortex of water. Ironically, the very Whirlpool Flynn's Cloyster has summoned protects her from a few of the shots (and washes away some of the paint already on her).

Captain Dross wasn't above cheating, after all.

Her voice growls out, clearly miffed about this turn of events. "What, is it pick on Captain Dross day?!" She trains her gun on the policeman, firing most of her shots, uncaring if some of them go wide. "Take this, rambo!"

“Over my dead body, Angelo,” was all he would say before the Swampert would turn around and blast out a powerful Hydro Pump screen; an attempt to block the incoming attack aimed at him.

Seeing as Skyler had her hands full with the other brunette, he decided to turn his attention on Angelo instead.

“Looks like it’s a two on two shoot-out then,” he drawled, chuckling rather ominously as he then began opening fire at the cocky, smirking brunette.

While emptying the clip of paint balls, he made sure to turn around and attempt to hit Skyler as well—and there may have been some friendly fire sent in the unfortunate ‘third wheel’ caught in the middle of this apparent ‘lover’s quarrel’…

Oops.
