A cleansing of the grounds seemed a little silly, but it was necessary. The evil spirits of those who tried to stain reality with their negativity needed to be warned to pass on.

It was incredibly superstitious but Sam had enough encounters with ghosts to know it as fact, not superstition. That and the eyewitnesses, the proof was believable enough half the time to go with the stories.

No chanting, nothing. Most of it was literally just ghost pokémon control. Some Sam would catch, others Sam would leave to his absol or sableye to take care of.

As he headed out of the main lobby, he'd locked up for the night. He had a flashlight in his hand, readying himself to head around the grounds with his sableye attached to his shoulder, haunched and keeping his gemstone eyes peeled for anything out of the ordinary. His absol went ahead, making sure the pathway was lit enough for Sam by keeping a small light on her collar which shone only enough so Sam could keep an eye on her in the dark.

With the main lobby locked, Mt. Pyre officially 'asleep' for the evening, he turned toward his absol who seemed to be more alert than normal.

"...what's wrong?"

He turned to flash the light ahead of absol, toward whatever garnered her attention.

It would have been simpler for Earl Grey to simply possess a lamp. Then again, Sinistea trained as classically as him always considered leaving their antique teacups quite... undignified. So, instead, the butler Pokémon ferried it beneath him with its ghostly telekinesis.[break][break]

Master and him had come to visit an acquaintance he'd met at the junkyard a week prior, it seemed. Dressed sharp in a tucked-in white dress shirt and black trousers, the ambassador followed the rocky path up the mountain. When they saw a light dancing up ahead, the pair stopped to regard it, attempting to distinguish will-o-wisp from the artificial.[break][break]

"Hello there," The Galarian speaks, raising a hand as he proceeds forward. "Sam, is that you?" Soon enough, however, their introduction is interrupted by a few of Mt. Pyre's 'residents'.[break]

Hearing Remiel Calcifet's voice had Sam relaxing and raising an eyebrow.

"Remiel?" The one and only ... archeologist! "What brings you to-"

Hearing the noise in the bushes had Sam narrowing his eyes. It was a buzzing, and as a ninjask emerged from a shell as if trying to escape some sort of fire. While escaping the flames of a FIRE SPIN, it left behind a husk.

That husk was all too familiar to Sam. He tossed a pokéball, which enclosed on the shedinja-- but that wisp of fire got closer. His eyes widened and he jumped back, his Absol moving in the way of the FIRE SPIN that the delphox had sent out against the shedinja.

"Careful Remiel! She's hostile. Hang in there absol!" He called to his Absol, who took the time within that vortex of flame to conjure a FUTURE SIGHT against the delphox. While it wouldn't be very effect, perhaps it would help to give Remiel an upper hand on the creature now that she'd drawn its attention.

The Delphox had been robbed of her crispy bug. After failing to strike the groundskeeper and his partner, she waved her wand and sent the fiery tornado (FIRE SPIN) in the direction of the other. This one's Sinistea would swoop in to shield its master, however, possessing those flames with its WILL-O-WISP and sending them spiraling into the sky instead.[break][break]

Just before the Delphox could wave her wand again, however, she was seized by a psychic force that had been prepared prior (FUTURE SIGHT). It sent her crashing against the cliff wall nearby, at which point Remiel swiftly drew out an empty luxury ball and cast it. Its form was devoured in a flash of light, and the pair waited to see whether it remained shut afterwards.[break][break]

After a few tense shakes and a telltale ding, the royal released a breath and moved forward to retrieve it. "Thank you for the assistance. Do you deal with hostile Pokémon here regularly?" He inquiries.[break][break]

The vicious swirling flames die down with the capture of the delphox. After which, Sam checked over his absol to make sure she was alright. Not much damage had been done and she's cooing against his hand as he gives her a few more pets for good measure.

"Unfortunately, I do. There's a lot of restless spirits thanks to what's happened here in the past. And as much as I would like to say I'm making a dent..."

The ominus glowing of a red orb only proves the gravekeeper's words true. The CONFUSE RAY that began to form, in swirling orbs of light and color, had Sam barely able to turn his eyes away. The golden sableye on his shoulder, who had remained completely motionless, sinks into the shadows cast by Sam's body thanks to the lantern. The SHADOW SNEAK allowed the sableye to form in the darkness behind the dusclops, bouncing onto its head.

The distracting lights clear and Sam blinks out of his haze. His absol acts next, the horn on her head seeming to absorb the light around it, dark energy consuming the makeshift blade as she lunges forward to cut through the dusclops with a NIGHT SLASH.

Once again, he's throwing out a capsule to contain the spirit. After which he closes his eyes and begins to rub them, irritated by the confuse ray just moments ago. The sableye is back on his shoulder the same way it had left.

"Sometimes it's as if they come in droves."

The top of a bulbous pink head emerges out from a grave without disturbing ground. It peeks out even further within seconds, revealing a pair of child-like, joyful red eyes. Unlike most of the other ghosts haunting Mt. Pyre, this Frillish simply wants to play.[break][break]

Remiel stops when he sees it, ignoring the wails and moans of fiercer ghosts nearby as he examines this one. Then, without so much as a smile, he hooks fingers at each side of his mouth before spreading it apart to make a funny face. A ghostly, echoing giggle reverberates through the air as the Frillish fully emerges and swirls around the Galarian ambassador.[break][break]

"Perhaps they feel neglected by their trainers," Remiel suggests, watching as his floating Sinistea hastily avoids a collision with the playful Frillish. "Spirits are often appeased with offerings..."[break][break]

Reaching into his pack, he pulls out a small ziploc bag filled with some manner of tightly packed herbs and twigs. Bound by twine, he pulls them out with one hand and waves it about, drawing the immediate attention of the Frillish as she follows it around like a cat chasing a catnip-filled toy mouse.[break][break]

"that they do. i once had to offer a ghost my soul or defeat it in battle," sam glanced to remiel and shrugged his shoulders. "i blacked out, so i'm honestly not sure what happened."

y'know, it was meant as a joke, but the way sam said it could have had it taken completely serious.

without a second thought, he was back to watching the wild pokémon as they wandered about. his absol made her way around, taking the time to carefully make sure things were alright. a dreepy caught her trail, tried to give her an INFESTATION but she managed to DETECT it. the dreepy had meant it as a joke, showing as much with a wave of her ghostly hands.

the absol foolishly believed her and dropped her guard, only to be ASTONISHed by the way the dreepy came at her again. the absol flinched, snorting and taking the QUICK ATTACK before delivering a very harsh NIGHT SLASH of her own.

the unconscious dreepy was moved into her mouth then as she pranced back to sam like a proud absol so her trainer could capture if if he so desired. she showed spunk, perhaps she could be useful.

The royal manages a hint of a smile at Sam's joke, even if he didn't find it all that funny. Souls were a very precious currency, after all. Certainly nothing to be toyed with. He thought all this, of course, as he waved a bundle of sage about for a playful Frillish, whom many considered to be the souls of children lost at sea.[break][break]

After ending the play with the tap of a luxury ball, the prince and his butler teacup advance ahead of Sam as he catches a Dreepy. It isn't long, however, before a Drifloon drifts onto the path in front of them. It brings with it a GUST that threatens to throw both trainer and teacup off the edge of the cliff.[break][break]

Bracing himself, and planting his feet firmly in the ground, Remiel orders Earl Grey to cast a SHADOW BALL. With no means of long distance attack, aside from its wind, the phantom balloon is struck. It deflates on the stone path below.[break][break]

"I hear you're changing the infrastructure of Mt. Pyre," The royal says, advancing forwards as he pulls out an empty luxury ball. Dropping to a crouch, he taps it against the deflated balloon.[break][break]

"I read as much in the latest HNN article. Perhaps it is this change that has displeased the spirits here..." He theorizes, knowing full well that construction work, high activity, and unwarranted change in general was more than enough to displease a community in the world of the living.[break][break]

most of the spirits there were pretty peaceful. a lot of the psychic types were as well. like the woobat that went fluttering away when the sage got to close and bothered its nose. sam was thankful for it, and showed as much by ignoring the woobat and continuing forward.

the baltoy close by, spinning about in the grass, caught his eyes. but he didn't make comment, didn't take extra notice, just kept walking, only stopping enough to keep up with remiel as they walk the pathways ahead of them.

"i suppose you have a point there. it could very well be the case. but i've learned, activity or not on the mountain, the souls here are restless. it's something in the heart of mt. pyre. i've thought about leading an investigation into the mountain but i haven't got the time as of recent."

The Baltoy catches the former archaeologist's attention, and he stops to take a brief detour and greet it. The spinning top spins in place as he does so, even as he crouches beside it to narrow his eyes slightly and read the inscriptions on its dome-shaped head. Deciding it warranted further study, he pulls out a luxury ball from his pack and taps it against the clay doll's horn.[break][break]

"How interesting," He remarks, watching as the Baltoy is devoured by a flash of light and standing up again afterwards. "Any theories as to what might be awaiting you there? Perhaps I can help."[break][break]
