No one has visited the communal baths in months, apparently. Rocket was going through bathhouse maintenance guy after guy after woman after guy, and every single one handed in their letter of resignation after a week or two on the job. Something about the area being haunted.[break][break]

They'd heard noises, seen shadows crawl across the floor, heard splashing in the water despite the surface remaining still. None of it Emma believed- or rather, none of it she wanted to believe.[break][break]

She knew that ghosts were real, yes, in the form of tricky ghost-type Pokemon. But as far as she had been aware, there hadn't been anything amiss before. No one had filed for a missing Pokemon's report, no one had given any indication that their Pokemon were harassing others.[break][break]

Regardless, given her compromised state, she had been asked to take a look into the situation. Being reduced to grunt-work was humiliating regardless of the circumstances, but it felt even worse now because she was injured. [break][break]

Emma beelines it for the baths, fingers tracing the wall to help her find her way. She's too focused and isn't expecting anyone else to be following the same route she is, and with her impaired vision and quick steps, she doesn't see Raphael Pryde.

While he expected grunt work to happen when he transferred over to Hoenn, Rapheal hardly found himself bothered by the idea of it. It made him have to use his arm in ways normal exercise wasn't going to give him. So when asked to look into the noises of the baths most of Rocket had abandoned because they were scared of some superstitious noises he had no problems. He had been dead inside for so long ghost were attracted to him. [break][break]

With his arm lit up thanks to the Rotom in his prosthetic, he is checking the area seeing what he could find. His Rotom makes a noise and his arm forces him to turn around as it stops the woman from approaching =HALT= the rotom would speak in warning. Raphael would look the other up and down to take them in.[break][break]

While he's never met her face to face the once head scientist did make sure to look into those in charge of this Rocket, both name and description. And the odd complexion of the other was more telling then anything else, "Emma Wolfe I assume?" he decides to question. Might as well get familiar. "Down," he would order after so his Rotom would give him back control of his arm to put down.

An unfamiliar voice combined with sudden realization and an abrupt halt to her steps leaves her bewildered. Lips part in surprise and she hesitates, staring straight forward in an attempt to gauge the situation. Shadows and shapes form in front of her, difficult to read. But up close, with fingertips so close to her face she'd almost walked right into them, she can see the soft glow of whatever it is that's in front of her.[break][break]

But only barely. The moment it blinks out of existence and the object in front of her is removed, the woman is blind again.[break][break]

"You'd be correct."[break][break]

Emma tilts her cheek, following the sound of his voice to point herself in the direction of his face.[break][break]

"That wasn't a gun you pointed at me, was it?"

It didn't take the observational skills of a scientist to figure out the other had the problem with sight. Especially if she had to ask if his arm was a gun. Why come here if she couldn't see something so close up? Though its not like he was going to question an admin for now. [break][break]

"Like I could dare to pull a gun out on one of our admins," he chuckles his voice light and playful to ensure the other he means no harm. Well not to her at least, "I am Raphael Pryde, I'm here to help with the noise problem. [break][break]

Should you be here in your condition?" there isn't any pity for the other. He knows he doesn't want it when it comes to his missing arm, and so he won't show her any if she feels herself comfortable there.

There is no humor in her tone, regardless of the fact she picks up on Raphael's attempts to be friendly. Behind her sunglasses, the woman narrows her eyes. Of course, the expression is hidden behind wide rims and black lenses, but the thought was there.[break][break]

"And what condition is that? Are you suggesting that because of my injuries, I'm unable to perform?"[break][break]

Emma keeps a tight lid on her bubbling frustration, keeping her voice steady. She does, however, wrinkle her nose a bit. [break][break]

"Or are you suggesting that this 'noise problem' is dangerous in some capacity? Do you know something that I don't, Pryde?"

"Of course not, I'm far from being someone to tell you you can't do a job because of injuries," he is quick to clarify. Though he shows no remorse for his comment. "I have just come to learn that when dealing with ghost its best to have all senses at their fullest," as if to give an example he looks to the rotom on his arm and gives a whistle. Leaving the man's prosthetic for just a moment and in a second the water from the sinks turn on before Rotom returns to his arm as programed to do so. [break][break]

"Ghost are quick to move, and can and will create many distractions to trick any of your senses," he is informative. He knows a ghost problem when he hears about them. Though as if on cue the sinks stop, this time with no interference of his own. Creeks in the pipes could be heard around them as well as what seemed to be childish laughter.

Just the mention of ghosts is enough to make her skin crawl. It sets her jaw, makes her temple jump with temporary discomfort and agitation. [break][break]

Ever since that night in the pouring rain, with her finger on the trigger and the blood blossoming from the breast of someone who had been too close, she has felt haunted. Cold fingers spill down the nape of her neck, eliciting stiff hairs and goosebumps.[break][break]

"Then it's a good thing I have help."[break][break]

One might assume she was talking about him- but the wet nose investigating the hallway further down lifts, ears at attention, nape bristling with agitation, emits a low growl to draw attention. The Lycanroc's discomfort is followed by the sound of children's laughter, and Emma exhales quietly, a brief expression of unease.[break][break]

Something cold brushes past her, originating from the man's arm. Sinks turn on and the cold returns and Emma's lips curve into an unimpressed frown.[break][break]

"You're suspiciously knowledgeable- the ghost in the bathhouse isn't yours, is it?"[break][break]

The sinks stop and the laughter resumes, louder. Lycanroc's growling intensifies, halted only by deep inhales via the wolf's odor sleuth.[break][break]

"Wonderful."

Thanks to the light emitting from his arm its easy to pick up on the way the younger woman tenses up at the mention of ghost. Its a silly fear really, but it could be that he was just used to them. So he doesn't make much comment, though at the mention of help he does look around until he hears the growling. Because he highly doubted she meant him when it came to help.[break][break]

"I specialize in Ghost pokemon Miss Wolfe," he simply explains as there is creaking in the pipes as if whatever it was was slowing it's movements. This time its the showers that turn on as high as they could go. Whatever it was putting on the hot water to try and steam up the baths as if trying to impair the two there more.

She wouldn't put it past him to have released the ghost Pokemon on the submarine in order to handle them himself. Agitation and frustration as a result of her injuries leave her quicker on the draw in terms of jumping to conclusions.[break][break]

But before either of them could continue, the showers turn on and the room and hallway fills up with heat and steam. Although it doesn't deter her in terms of sight, the sound of the showers is disorienting and loud and the humidity and water in the air leaves her almost dizzy.[break][break]

And her Lycanroc's sense of smell seems to be struggling as well, the smell of iron and water pervading even his strongest senses.[break][break]

"We need to cut off the water supply down here."

“Not mine, my pokemon know better than to mess with homebase,” he informs as he hears the water. He is cautious as he lists pokemon in his head on who would mess with the water in such a way. ”Don’t,” he orders, uncaring of their ranking for the time being as he was the one who knew about ghosts and their antics. [break][break]

The voice from before comes, sounding as if it were asking for help, how the water was too much. Though for both humans there the voice would sound very different. The voice of someone Emma cared deeply for is what she heard just as he heard someone else. [break][break]

Raphael steps toward one of the stalls where the water was filling up. There was only one water type ghost who tried to lure their prey in such a way. “Keep back” he’ll order once more as Raphael sticks out his hand, as if to reach in for the obvious ploy. [break][break]

Though the moment Frillish attempts to bring him in the water with him the rotom in his arm would release a SHOCKWAVE in the showers.

Though she doesn't argue, she doesn't necessarily agree. Pokemon were still Pokemon, unpredictable and unreliable things at times. Especially ghost-types, as she often found. Specifically Rotom, or perhaps she simply had bad experiences with the lot of them.[break][break]

But her suggestion to turn off the water is rejected. It almost annoys her if it didn't happen so often. The woman bites her tongue, coming up short on her pursuit of the water supply or circuits or whatever its called. Her heel digs into the metal grates beneath their feet, echoing quietly.[break][break]

"Then what?"[break][break]

Her question falls short when a familiar voice enters her mind. [break][break]

"Did you hear that?"[break][break]

Involuntarily, panic sweeps over her as the voice takes hold in her mind. It's someone calling for help. It's Gavin.[break][break]

Urgency takes root and she begins to move, falling prey for just a second to the ghost-type's tricks. Her chest meets Raphael's metal arm, however, and her hand wraps around it in surprise, holding fast. [break][break]

She doesn't move when Raphael's arm moves forward into the room with the running showers. All she can see is the bright sparks of the SHOCKWAVE he sends inside. It illuminates a shadow in the steam, something that she can't really see in great detail due to her impaired vision.[break][break]

"I hate ghosts."

“I did,” is all he says before he did the attack, knowing full well what she was referring to seeing as he heard the voice too. However the person it belonged to wasn’t here. No matter how much he would wish it. Made it easy to deter fact from fact and fiction. [break][break]

The frillish was out cold and Pryde uses a pokeball to capture it so it wouldn’t cause a problem for others. He does hear what she has to say on the ghost. “Many ghost do what they can to have you join them on their side of the world,” the doctor would get up and look back at her, “Best thing you can do is show who is in control, admittedly some are much easier to control than others”

It never became easier. The voice she heard, the sobbing, the screaming, the begging - it never, ever got easier. Knowing they were gone didn't make her skin stop flushing with raised skin, didn't stop her heart from beating faster, didn't stop her chest from heaving.[break][break]

The Frillish's end brings only relief as it lets the woman go. It's emotional and mental hold on her through the sound of her loved ones voice is gone in an instant, allowing her to filter back into reality. Only dark hallways and endless black meet her.[break][break]

"Have you ever been tempted to.. join them?"[break][break]

His mention of control falls on deaf ears. A barrier of herself has been dropped, emotion laid bare for just a moment, just long enough for Emma to ask a question too difficult to answer herself. She stares straight ahead, breathing in slow as the man captures the Frillish and looks back at her. Even without sight she can feel the weight of his eyes against her cheek.
