"Standard League rules alright with you?" Zac asked. "3v3, singles, fight to the death. That sound good?" He paused for a second before breaking into laughter. "Nah I'm just kidding with ya mate. But bonus points if you can wake Bulu up!"

Zac pointed over to where the legendary was sleeping under the shade of some palm trees. "For now, let's just warm up!" He tossed out his first Pokemon: Bootes the Omastar!

The round shell thumped onto the sand, before thick, pudgy tentacles pushed their way out, propping him up. "Ready when you are!"

”Uhh...” the boy was dumbfounded. He was not prepared for this and his body tensed, mouth hanging from the other man’s words. [break][break]

It was only when the man broke into laughters did his muscles relaxed. Relieved chuckles parted his lips at the revelation that it was all just jokes. [break][break]

He looked over his shoulder, towards where the man was pointing at. And there he saw a Pokemon he had never seen before, not in the televisions nor books. [break][break]

””I’ll do my best,” he replied with a soft smile. His spirit began to slowly return, excited to try and awaken the peculiar Pokemon.[break][break]

”Alright then, let’s do this Terry,” he grinned to himself as he threw out a Poke Ball. [break][break]

Out from it came a tortoise-like creature with a tree growing on its shell. The Torterra let out its battle cry, showing that it was more than ready. The passion in the boy’s eyes showed that he was too. [break][break]

”Seed Bomb!” almost immediately, the Torterra opened its mouth and a barrage of glowing white seeds were fired, exploding on impact.

Bootes pulled in his tentacles and quickly rolled out of the way of the seeds. He dipped in and out of the craters that Terry's attack had left, building up momentum. "You had many battles today?" Zac asked, conversationally. "I've got some sodas if you're feeling thirsty."

Omastar was moving fast now, and he sped across the beach, zipping around behind his opponent and trying and strike somewhere that wasn't a giant, beaked, face that could shoot explosive seeds.

His mind went blank for a few seconds at the questions. ’Is it normal to spark up a conversation in the middle of battles?!’ he was beyond perplexed. [break][break]

”Umm- no I just got here after a week of training. Thanks for the offer though, maybe aft-“ before he could finish his sentence the frail boy began to lose balance as the ground beneath him shook.

Because the Torterra could not land a hit on the Omastar, he decided to heave his front legs up and stomped the ground, sending shockwaves throughout the battlefield. [break][break]

”Terry remember what I thought you! Restraint!” Mason said at his Pokemon after regaining back his balance.[break][break]

The boy was just worried for the safety of other civilians, that was all. He was aware of just how competitive his Pokemon could be.

The earth ruptured underneath Bootes, and he was sent flying! His disjointed roll, combined with the impromptu launch, sent him high into the air! He soared, cracked shell spinning slower and slower as he reached the peak of his flight. "Whoa! That's some serious air, mate!" Zac called, shading his eyes so he could watch the Omastar's arc.

Bootes reached the zenith of his jump, and unravelled like a gummy blue flower. His tentacles started to jitter and shake, shuddering with tectonic movement. He was descending right on top of Torterra, and using MIMIC to copy his opponent's attack!

If he hit, he would unleash a copied EARTHQUAKE right through the core of Terry's bonsai body!

Bootes was hit by EQ and thrown into the air!
Bootes used Mimic on Earthquake!
Bootes is coming from above, about to hit Terry with Earthquake!

Mason was bewildered at the sight of the flying Omastar. He was scared for the Pokemon, scared that its shell would break and shatter, scared that he would have blood in his hand. [break][break]

Though he was just being paranoid. Whereas Terry waited slowly as the Omastar descend. He took a stance and when the Omastar hits his back, his shell shook violently, but he could manage the hit, he was more resilient than his trainer thought he was. He then jolted his body, knocking the other Pokemon away. [break][break]

The Torterra’s trainer was even more scared. Frantic even. But that was when Amor’s voice echoed in his head. ”Follow up with Seed Bomb!”. [break][break]

Terry waited no longer and fired glowing white seeds from his mouth once again.

"Nice one!" Zac shouted, as Terry batted Omastar away across the sands. The hit shattered Bootes already cracked shell, but he was used to that by now. Unfortunately the rough hit looked to be a bit too much, and Zac returned him just to be safe. "Okay! He's got a bit of spirit in him that's for sure! Well let's see about this."

Amber wings blew blistering streams of sand at Torterra as Zac sent out Volcarona. Flames streamed off her wings, roasting her opponent with a merciless HEAT WAVE. Zac had to look away from the crackling orange flames, as the air in the makeshift arena shimmered from the unbound heat.

The boy grimaced through his teeth at the sight of the cracked shell, he did not want to wish that on any of his Pokemon for sure. [break][break]

What came out after surprised Mason a bit. It was a Volcarona. The same one as the one in his pocket! Though this only mean that he knew how to fight back. [break][break]

”You can do it Terry!” Mason cheered on. They both have waited for a day like this. They’ve trained this move over and over again for this exact situation. [break][break]

Despite being beaten by the heat from the Volcarona, the Torterra did not want to go down without putting up a fight. The Torterra smashed the ground even harder than before, causing spikes of stones to emerge. Then, his eyes began to glow green and he fired the stones at the Volcarona. [break][break]

Rocks soared towards Volcarona, but the bug blasted the stones with the resonance of its humming thorax. The rocks in the air shattered, pelting Volcarona with chunks not much larger than pebbles.

The baking air shook, as waves of BUG BUZZ assaulted Terry.

Volcarona spread its gorgeous wings, letting the updraft of the roasting sands carry it upwards. If that last attack didn't knock Terry out, then surely the heat would.

After the Heat Wave, it didn’t take much for the Torterra to be knocked out. Mason returned him to his Pokeball with a smile on his face, ”You did great,” he muttered at the ball before reaching for another one. [break][break]

”I’m counting on you Lily!” the boy threw the Poke Ball up high in the air. Then out from it came a large serpent-like Pokemon. The Milotic’s battle cry filled the battlefield, which then caused a large wave of water to form behind her, large enough that it could crash down onto the Volcarona.[break][break]

Mason sighed as some of the water splashed onto him. He really need to train his Pokemon to be more restraining. [break][break]

Volcarona swooped down as the wave built behind Milotic. The flaming moth summoned roaring balls of MYSTIC FIRE that burnt through the surf as they flew straight for Milotic. It was a dangerous maneuver, but if the hit collided it might burn and weaken Milotic.

Meanwhile, the wave hit Volcarona, tumbling her across the sands in a wet wash. She skidded to a halt, flapping her wings to dry them before feebly taking to the sky again. "That's the way!" Zac cheered from the sidelines. This was one hell of a match!

Volcarona used Mystic Fire
Volcarona was hit by Surf (and isn't looking good)

The boy’s teeth clenched in excitement at the sight of the Mystic Fire burning through the huge wave and ended up hitting his Milotic. Though the Tender Pokemon didn’t mind the inconvenience of being burned. [break][break]

She then created a ball of blue energy from her mouth, before blasting a torrent of water towards the opposing Pokemon. [break][break]

The WATER PULSE shot Volcarona out of the sky. She fell in a confused tumble of sizzling wings, landing hard on the wet sand. "Better luck next time," Zac said, returning her. "Okay, and now let's see how you handle the final challenge: Tapu Bulu!"

Zac gestured over to where the legendary was snoozing under some palm trees. It seemed to have no interest in the battle that it was apparently a part of, and was content to just nap. "See if you can wake Bulu up!"

”Nice one Lily!” he cheered as the Water Pulse hits. He took a deep breath when the Volcarona fainted, knowing that he had to do something to wake the Legendary Pokemon up, ”Hmm...” he hummed as his head tilted upwards. [break][break]

”Lily, heal up first,”. The Milotic then glowed a shade of green and droplets of water began to circle her, healing herself a bit. As the Milotic healed, Mason continued to ruminate on how to wake the Pokemon up, ’Hmm... Mom used to wake me up with cold water...’. [break][break]

”Lily use Ice Beam.”. It was just experimental, but it was worth the try. A stream of water was released from Lily’s mouth again, but this time, as it reached the sleeping Tabu Bulu, the water turned ice cold. Though perhaps due to the heat from the sun of summer, the ice wasn’t enough to freeze the Tapu Bulu. [break][break]
