"d-do you want to see?" hesitation lit up his violet gaze as offered the scroll to her. they were to hunt down a dangerous pokemon and capture it for rocket. they had each been given a pokemon belonging to rocket for the mission.

Eleven years old, trembling at the slightest touch, but determined to success, to prove to ryuuzaki amemiya that she was just as strong as he was. That she would protect him just like he protects her.[break][break]

his eyes flicker upwards towards the bird that settles on her head. it is small and adorable, the same way that the two of them likely looked walking down the path together.

[break][break] if she unravels the scroll, she'll find their task at hand. a volcorona mother has laid a nest only a few miles from here and it is their task to take one of her eggs. the pokemon is not native to kanto but that is why it is that much more sought after — according to the paper, legends have it that one egg can save a human from deathly pneumonia. surely, a useful thing to have on rocket's side.

Suzume gently unfurls the paper, eyes widening in awe at the Volcarona. It is hovering above a nest of eggs and she can almost feel the warmth it gives off despite it being an illustration. The little girl looks up at Jayden just as he slowly pronounces the Pokemon's name to her.[break][break]

"It's a Volcarona, yeah! I remember this one- it saved my best friend. He almost froze to death."[break][break]

She says this nonchalantly as if it were a throwaway fact. But there is a note of pride in her voice at the knowledge she has on this topic. [break][break]

"This will be fun!"[break][break]

And then, because her hands are free from bird feathers, she lets go of the page with one hand to reach for Jayden's. She holds it, small fingers holding onto him like a child might an older sibling.

"saved?" he echoes, expression curious. he was not sure if he had ever heard anything of volcorona having supernatural powers... it's only after the other half of suzu's sentence registers that he realizes. "ah - it kept him warm?"

[break][break] he nods. "i'm glad he is alive now."

[break][break] the word fun also strikes jayden, like a hammer striking a gong. yet, this is still not enough to make him question it. maybe, years later, he might.

[break][break] the young boy blinks with surprise at the sudden fingers that entangle itself with his. part of him feels like he should pull away. mother's words ring in his ears. be careful, mischa.

[break][break] he would be careful.

[break][break] but... they could be careful together, right?

[break][break] his fingers tighten around hers as he leads them through the underbrush. "i don't think it should be too difficult. father said that the nest was a little beyond these woods." he points - sure enough, there was a small separation of trees where the field gave way to a forest's entrance.

The boy echoes the word 'saved' as if it is the first time he's ever heard it. Or at least, that's the way she interprets his confusion. The little girl tilts her head up at him quizzically, mouth opening to try to explain - but he interrupts her with a follow-up understanding. She brightens, nodding.[break][break]

"Yes! It was so warm and soft that it kept him warm when he was so, so, so cold!"[break][break]

What hesitation that sparks from her hand in his goes unnoticed. Her actions are no different than ones she might express for her older brother, after all. So when he tightens his grip on her hand she is merely relaxed and indifferent, happy to be held and willing to be pulled along.[break][break]

"I am a very good climber. Do you want me to climb up to the nest when we get there?"
