Warm sand, the ocean breeze, and yet she still felt cold. Like her energy is being siphoned out by her toes, leaking into the sand or being sweated out under the blazing sun.[break][break]

She should still be resting, she knows, but to remain idle and useless for as long as she already had made her skin crawl.[break][break]

A pair of flipflops dangle from her finger and she paces the shores, stepping back when the water comes too close. Not far away is an empty battlefield, ready and waiting to be used and abused. She keeps her attention trained on it, but with the sun sinking below the ocean-line, most avid battlers were heading home for rest.[break][break]

Just not her.

Zac wasn't heading how. Not yet, and maybe not tomorrow either. Not with so many juicy battles to be had, and definitely not with so much Charja-Cola flowing through his body! He looked around for another battle partner, and spotted a woman walking near an empty battlefield.

"Hey there!" Zac called, jogging over to Emma and sticking out a huge hand in greeting. "The name's Zac Ramsay. You looking for a battle?"

Emma stiffens, the shift in breeze carrying muffled silence, following by noise. Noise that does not belong to the crashing ocean waves, nor to the Wingull overhead as they fly to their nests to roost. That white noise she had been existing in was dashed by the uneven, unpredictable footfalls of another human being.[break][break]

"Ramsay. That's a very strong name."[break][break]

He's caught her by surprise, as it happens- though she does her best to hide that behind an unreadable expression. The pretty sunhat she wears bobs with a warm breeze, and she misses the cue where he juts his hand out for her to take. It hovers between them, unacknowledged because she cannot see it. His silhouette does not offer any indication of his polite greeting.[break][break]

Zac retracted his hand a second or two after it became awkward. Hey, some people just aren't shakers.

"Thanks! Can't take any credit for it though. It is an heirloom though, so it's got sentimental value," he said, laughing at his own joke. "Yeah! I've been battling up and down the beach all day." It wasn't an exaggeration either. He'd been far out past the breakwater to battle on pontoons and between sunken ships, up in the dunes for sky battles with legendaries and normal Pokemon alike, and had played volleyball on at least a dozen separate occasions. If it wasn't for his avatar healing Zac would have been as bright as his hair. "What about you? Oh! I never got your name, miss....?"

His hand is removed and she is none-the-wiser. Sorry Zac, she didn't see you there.[break][break]

His humbleness, however, catches her off guard, along with his cheeky sense of humor. The woman relaxes her shoulders just a bit, tilting her chin up to regard him, or the direction she can hear him in, a little bit more thoughtfully.[break][break]

"Aren't you tired?"[break][break]

She didn't detect a lie from him, and he quite literally smelled like the heat of battle- several, actually. [break][break]

And yet he didn't seem the least worse for wear. Curious. Curious and incredibly suspicious.[break][break]

"Anna. This will by my second battle, however. I prefer to battle when the sun is going down."[break][break]

So while everyone else had been baking in the sun, Emma was content not to strain her eyes or her complexion. Win, win.

"Great to meet ya Anna!" Zac said, nodding politely. "Why would I be tired? I'm not the one fighting...usually." It had been a strange day, actually. Zac had been blown up, and tossed around, he'd arm wrestled, swam far out to sea to save a drowning Pokemon, eating a ton of watermelon (twice), and had blinded half of Slateport with the illegal fireworks Stormy had procured for him. Maybe he should be tired.

"I'm running on cola at the moment," Zac said, opening his Rotom fridge and grabbing out two chilled cans of Passho Plus+. He rubbed on can on his scorched neck and offered the other to Anna with an outstretched hand. "You want one?"

Even without sight, she can see it. He breathes harder, moves slower-maybe stiffly. There's a pep in his step, sure, like some inhuman source of strength and resolve. But he has clearly had a long day.[break][break]

He mentions cola and offers something out to her. This time, she knows not only because he said 'you want one?' but also because she can feel the cold seeping off of the can. Emma reaches for it, fingers brushing cold aluminum, and she plucks it from the palm of his hand.[break][break]

"What flavor is it?"[break][break]

She cracks it open, taking a second to smell it first.

"Passho Plus+," Zac said, getting a hint for the first time that his opponent may not be fully sighted. "It's got a real citrus punch, and you can really taste the space!" He cracked open his own can and took a sip. "Oh yeah."

"So, 2v2 okay by you?" Zac asked, pulling out a Pokeball. He opened it onto the beach, sending out blonde trio. "I'm using Dugtrio, and, uh, Tapu Bulu!" He pointed over to where the bull was resting underneath a sprouting of palm trees. "He's over to my right," Zac said helpfully.

Emma purses her lips, tentatively lifting the can to her lips for a small sip. It's certainly citrusy, contorting the woman's face in a brief expression to represent the tartness- was that even right? Regardless, she licks her lips and nods along with his description.[break][break]

There is a gentle rumble beneath her feet when he releases his first Pokemon. She glances down at it briefly, not that it helps her any until he describes the Pokemon. Dugtrio.. hmm.[break][break]

"Tapu Bulu?"[break][break]

Emma swallows hard for a moment, barely disguising her discomfort. Was this an avatar, then? How strange that they could so easily blend in with the community- she would never have suspected. But perhaps she was jumping ahead a bit, perhaps this was simply a man in control of such a Pokemon.[break][break]

No, that couldn't be right, either. Legendary Pokemon were impossible to control.[break][break]

"Alright then."[break][break]

Emma releases two Pokemon of her own, a Mightyena and Beedrill. Zac indicates the direction of the Tapu and she glances at it, expression quite flat for someone in the presence of a legendary Pokemon.[break][break]

"Shall I start, then?"[break][break]

Should he give the go-ahead, Beedrill would set up the stage with TOXIC SPIKES. At the same time, the Mightyena's INTIMIDATE sets in as well, followed by a mouthful of flames. He bounces across the sand in an attempt to dodge the spikes, aiming for the Tapu with a FIRE FANG. Go big or go home.

"Go ahead!" Zac said, smiling amicably and stepping to the side so that he was off the battlefield.

The TOXIC SPIKES scattered around the field, making Fabrizio the Dugtrio sweat. Stage hazards? But...but he loved using the stage! Moving carefully, Dugtrio dipped under the sands, before bursting back out underneath Beedrill. The three heads stretched up, a trio of IRON HEADS coming straight for the insect.

Bulu's nap was interrupted by a barking, chomping dog beating down on it. FIRE FANG bit deep into the charcoal-skin of the legendary. Bulu had been badly burned during its fight with Heatran at the Spirit Festival, and while the FIRE FANG singed its hide with a mild burn, the flames failed to spread.

Bulu rolled over, tore a palm tree out of the soil, and hurled the tree at the dog.

Emma may not be able to see, but she can feel. The ground rumbles with the movement of the Dugtrio, and all three heads come up just as she shouts. Beedrill only narrowly escapes the IRON HEAD coming at him by beating his wings hard with a burst of AGILITY. [break][break]

It retaliates immediately, firing off a steady stream of FELL STINGERS at the creature. [break][break]

Meanwhile, although Mightyena's teeth find purchase, he is not expecting the iron giant, bull-headed deity to respond with a tree. With a horrible yelp, the dog scrambles aside, the trunk catching its legs to bowl it over in the sand. Dazed and exasperated, it scrambles to find purchase and otherwise does not get up yet.

FELL STINGERS rained down on Dugtrio, clanging against their glorious blonde hair and digging into their clay-like skin. Fabrizio's eyes went wide, and he shrunk back to the cover of his hole.

Moments later he emerged, TOXIC SPIKES catching harmlessly in his hair, and he fired off a trio of elemental blasts at the buzzing Beedrill. Flame, frost and static warped the air as the TRI-ATTACK shot upwards.

Tapu Bulu snored, dreaming of a shady glade where there was no battling, and even fewer dogs.

Dugtrio was hit by FELL STINGER

Three streams of energy explode upward from the ground. In its pursuit, the Dugtrio barrels through the TOXIC SPIKES, unaffected. Evidently, poison-type attacks would do nothing against this foe.[break][break]

Beedrill is struck by one of the three beams, unable to cleanly dodge it all. A beam of ICE strikes true, freezing his lower-half. It causes him to drop dramatically in the air, weighted down by this new ailment.[break][break]

Mightyena pulls itself out of the sand and onto all four paws. But the Bulu does not continue to attack, and instead resumes snoring. So he continues his assault, jumping on top of Tapu Bulu to pummel him with a PLAY ROUGH.[break][break]

Beedrill struggles to remain upright, and only one FELL STINGER manages to escape his frozen butt.

Bulu rolled over, trying to get away from the rough Mightyena. Unfortunately, the legendary rolled right onto a bed of TOXIC SPIKES. Bulu felt the poison flowing through its body and sat up, knocking the dog away.

Burned and poisoned, and with the chances of a decent nap fading fast, Bulu raised its head to the sky and let out a low, sonorous note. Pale clouds crowded the sky, smothering sunbeams, and thick drops of milky rain began to fall. Bulu opened its mouth wide, catching the healing rain.

Dugtrio had their enemy on the ropes. Whirling their glorious hair around again, they shot off another TRI-ATTACK at the half-frozen Beedrill.

Bulu was POISONED
Bulu used Moo-Moo Monsoon (Z-Move)
Dugtrio used TRI-ATTACK
