It’s probably of no surprise to anyone that, out on the sands of Slateport Beach, a boxing ring has suddenly been assembled overnight… [break][break]

It appears that the CBA (Clobbopus Boxing Association) are keen to promote their sport by getting the competitors of the Hoenn Star Tournament in on the action, hoping that a taste would bring them back for more. [break][break]

Arms draping over one of the lower ropes, Angelo leans close to get in some last-minute words of encouragement for his prized fighter. His Clobbopus stands in the red corner, having won her first bout earlier this morning, ignoring the claps and cheers of the few seated spectators to instead listen to her ‘coach’.[break][break]

“… And just remember to keep moving that pretty little head of yours. A moving target is a hard target, alright?” [break][break]

Angelo splashes some water from a bottle onto the octopus’s head to keep her damp (they’re fighting types but still aquatic so it makes sense) before the referee beckons the two fighters. [break][break]

“You got this, Champ.”[break][break]

The referee motions for the two Clobbopus to come to middle ground. Angelo’s blue boxer shuffles forward with her mitt tentacles swaying, then reaches out for the customary, respectful ‘glove’ touch with her opponent. [break][break]

Once they’d both returned back to their corners, only then the bell would ring to start round one… [break][break]

should he have known in advance, jayden might have considered signing up a different pokemon for the event. then again, it wasn't like he had a choice, it was the CBA — Clobbopus Boxing Association after all. It wasn't that he disliked Fyodor — only that he had not that much training with him, considering they had only met in the Safari Zone not too long ago.

[break][break] That being said, Fyodor was excited. The pokemon was clearly excited as it stood in the blue corner, smacking it's small sand-colored fists together. The pokemon had signed himself up for the tournament, which was largely why Jayden had been caught so off-guard with the sign-ups.

[break][break] Where as his opponent takes the last few minutes of the break to whisper words of encouragement, Jayden simply stands at the corner, observing their opponent. Fyodor needs no such encouragement — the pokemon is vibrating with energy, barely able to help it as he thrums with the valor of battle. BULK UP surges beneath his feet.

[break][break] "Go ahead, Fyodor."

[break][break] He nods, and the pokemon shuffles forward to the center of the ring. His eyes are bright with enthusiasm as he puts his fists up to prepare. RING! The bell sounds and Fyodor is quick to start, throwing the first jab.

Whereas Fyodor is excited, a seemingly aggressive boxer that throws the first punch when the bell rings, this Clobbopus is far quieter. Contemplative. She’s a counter fighter, waiting for the right moment – the right opening – to strike. [break][break]

Eyes sharp with DETECT, fists raised high to shield her face, Little Blue finds that chance when she slips out of range of the jab. Her small body twists as the opponent’s glove sails past her face, muscles winding as she uses the momentum to swing back with a cross towards the squishy part between the other Clobbopus’s eyes.[break][break]

“Nice dodge!” Angelo calls from the side-lines, lips curling as he flashes a quick look across the ring towards 'Michail' in an unspoken challenge. Bring it on. [break][break]

his fist sails on open air as the other pokemon shifts out of the range of the jab. being energetic and confident is all well and good, but it does nothing for fyodor when it blinds him from the future that it's in front of him.

[break][break] not that he should be surprised, since the two of gotten minimal interaction as of yet.

[break][break] the fellow clobbopus is quick on the take and it is not enough time for fyodor to dodge with his own attack. the fist that squishes against his cheek forces him to make a little squeak, the sound comical if not for absolutely how serious this was! this was an official match. this was life or death!

The BRICK BREAK collides into the little Clobbopus’s face, right between her eyes, pressing into her squishy skull like a fist sinking into a pillow. [break][break]

“Shake it off! Don't stop, keep him guessing!” [break][break]

Following the direction from her ‘coach’ she shuffles around her opponent. Little Blue bobbing and weaving to not stay in one place too long, before suddenly sliding around to the left, throwing a BRICK BREAK jab of her own towards the side of her fellow fighter’s head. [break][break]

Hopefully Fyodor has his guard up!

Angelo – contrary to Jayden’s inner monologue – is just competitive as hell and having just came off a win this morning, thinks this match is also in the bag. [break][break]

Which is why he bites back a nasty curse when Fyodor successfully dodges with DETECT. [break][break]

His Clobbopus has but a moment to swing a final left hook in retaliation, not wanting to let her opponent gather himself.[break][break]

the left hook comes swinging, smashing into fyodor's jaw just as the bill rings and signals the end of the first match.

[break][break] as his clobbopus returns to his corner to recuperate, jayden's eyes flicker to the other. he gives a small nod. "nice work." after all, the other had won -- it was only polite.

[break][break] he wipes the sweat off of fyodor's brow and leans down to whisper something. it is unclear what jayden says but whatever he does makes the pokemon stand up straighter, something fierce flashing in his eyes. it's difficult to say what propelled him was fear or seriousness.

[break][break] either way, the second match begins and fyodor returns to the center of the ring once more. he once again surges with BULK UP before throwing the first punch.

As Clobbopus returns to her corner, Angelo gives her some water to keep hydrated and a little pep talk for a motivation burst. She listens with bobs of her large head, looking more confident after the first round as she stands straight with a focused attention.

It's when Angelo is done that a voice from across the ring grabs his attention, gaze turning towards the call of his ‘rival coach’.

“Yeah. You too,” he returns, genuine, before his lips quirk and eyes sparkle with competitive mischief. “Think we’re about done warming up, now.”

At the beginning of the second round, fuelled with confidence and loosened up from the first, Clobbopus wastes not even a breath when the bell rings. Fists instantly fly in a flurry of strikes – bap, whack, bap-bap, smack! – to start off strong with POWER-UP PUNCH.

Clobbopus continues the assault. Another POWER-UP PUNCH coursing through her as she sends a barrage of strikes towards her opponent, intent on pushing him back against the ring corners. Unfortunately for her, Fyodor is resilient. [break][break]

A flash of respect glitters in Clobbopus’s eyes at her rival’s guarding prowess, each of her strikes falling only on his large tentacle gloves. She takes a step back, shuffling out of range for a moment to catch her breath and to size him up… [break][break]

She gives him a nod of admiration.

his opponent is not the only one who is impressed.

[break][break] as fyodor manages to take hit for hit, not avoiding but rather meeting it punch for punch, there is a gleam of approval in jayden's gaze. he crosses his arms, expression stern as he watches the two match off.

[break][break] it is an unordinary battle for sure, but as he had learned during his tenure in his agency, there was much to be learned from the unexpected.

Two chins are raised in competitive defiance. Although only one set of eyes sparkle blue, rebelling against the other trainer’s stern demand for victory. [break][break]

Clobbopus meets her rival head-on as Fyodor charges towards her, unflinching as she reaches out with large boxing mitt tentacles to grab around the other. Catching his SEISMIC TOSS with her own SUBMISSION in a deadlock of two conflicting Clobbopus forces.[break][break]

The bell rings sharp. Only the judges of the CBA, sitting around the outside of the ring, would tell who walks away from such a explosive finish with round two under their belt…

the two are in a dead-locked, grappling inch for inch. the two clobbopus look nearly identical as they fight against one another.

[break][break] with each passing second, one pushes the other closer to their side. seconds later, the gain is lost as the other pushes them right back over. they're in a dead heat, and it's impossible to tell who will win.

[break][break] but fyodor makes a miscalculation.

[break][break] a muscle twists somewhere, and he hesitates. before he knows it, he's thrown to the floor with her submission and he finds himself staring up, dazed at the swirling stars of his opponent's gaze.

[break][break] the bell rings. the match is over. angelo vestri won.

[break][break] brushing off his pants, jayden walks over to the other side of the ring and offers his hand out. "congratulations," he says. jayden has always been nothing but polite.
