stepping next to her, cian offers a charming smile, a wave, before reaching for the same pen she's holding. he gently plucks it free, then writes his name next to hers on the sign-up sheet.

"hope you don't mind."

"Hm?"

Someone reaches around her, perhaps a bit too close for comfort, to reach for her pen. It's plucked from her fingers and she glances up to see a familiar face and a charming smile.

"Mmm.. Cian. It's always a pleasure."

Stormy steps aside and out of his orbit a bit, watching as he signs his name alongside hers. Bet he loved that.

"Nah, I think it might be fun to totally crush you. What're you lookin' for, anyway? Doubles, six on six? What?"

after a grin, he gestures to the battlefield behind them:

"six on six? just like old times."

"I will crush you. That's a promise, Cian."

She follows his hand gesture out to the battlefield. The section of sand is freshly groomed and prepared for trainers. In fact, they've just taken down the volleyball net that had been in place previously.

"Just like old times."

Stormy jogs off to her end of the field, plucking a pokeball from her belt. When released, an Infernape punches one fist into an open palm.

CIAN MAHER

[attr="class","cian"]as cute as her promise is, he knows there's a strong chance she'll crush him.

actually, it's almost definite that she will.

overconfidence shows when a pokeball pops open to reveal a weavile.

"loser buys dinner?"

weavile's AGILITY coats it.

An ice type? What a strange matchup.

"That implies the winner wants dinner. Very forward of you."

Infernape takes the first move, TAUNTING Weavile forward with a curl of his fingers.

CIAN MAHER

weavile falls for the TAUNT despite being familiar with the move. he shifts forward, blurring as he charges forward to throw the first NIGHT SLASH.

"Normally, yes. But with you? I had a boyfriend then, and I have a boyfriend now."

Stormy shakes her head, only the smallest bit impressed by Cian's confidence. Nothing slowed him down, and she doubted it ever would.

Weavile comes in land his NIGHT SLASH and Infernape redirects energy to pummel the Pokemon with a CLOSE COMBAT.

CIAN MAHER

[attr="class","cian"]disappointment stretches across his features into a frown.

"ah, of course."

weavile almost faints from the CLOSE COMBAT. he peers over his shoulder at cian as if to question his trainer's choice.

cian shoots a glare at the weavile, which only prompts the ice-type to lash out with a METAL CLAW, dragging it across infernape's chest.

"could always just go as friends."

"Is that even possible for you?"

Stormy chuckles, a slightly sarcastic laugh that is definitely a little meaner than intended.

"As long as it's just as friends."

Infernape doesn't catch the METAL CLAW in time, and it glances his chest before he has a moment to intercept with a FIRE PUNCH. He still throws it, but not without taking damage first.

[attr="class","cian"]"relationships aren't really my thing."

but he knows that's not what she's talking about. still, he feigns innocence.

"it'll be as friends, i promise."

the FIRE PUNCH connects, fainting weavile. after a quick swap, a glalie takes the field, yet another ice-type. it's as if he wants to lose.

glalie looks back, and after an approving nod from her trainer, immediately drops the temperature around them.

a SHEER COLD takes the battlefield.

"Why am I not surprised to hear that?"

Not that she was really judging. To each their own and all that. But it just set even further in stone, she thinks, that Cian is not the type of man she'd look for.

But she relents, because she is sort of hungry.

Weavile goes down to be replaced by a Glalie. The SHEER COLD strikes true, freezing Infernape solid. She replaces it with Volcarona.

And it uses HEAT WAVE.

it's a nasty HEAT WAVE, one that threatens to melt glalie's very existence. so she conjures up a PROTECT, keen on surviving just this one around.
