The Tournament had been quite a thing for him to get into. On one hand, it was a way for him to get into the spotlight and prove his strength to the League, whereas prior he had typically kept to himself. He felt pride with each win—but with each familiar face he saw from his past, the sweetness was bittered.

There were few faces he would have wanted to see from Team Rocket, but Emma’s was undoubtedly a welcomed one, if not one which panged his heart a little.

So, when he saw her across the crowd, he approached. Long strides caught up with her easily, until he was by her side, speaking up, perhaps out of nowhere—but she was an assassion. The woman had good eyes. Typically.

The smell of food in his hand would waft over on the breeze. A basket of hush puppies.

“Hungry?”

He held it over, offering one with a smile.

It is unexpected for someone to approach her in a crowd. She is typically a loner, a ghost, someone undetected among many eyes and many faces. [break][break]

And yet someone presses next to her, and although he never touches her, his voice carries a heavy weight.[break][break]

Old memories had surfaced faster than new, and Boruta had evidently been one of these old memories. Familiarity and unease settle in her chest like an old friend, and her chin tilts down at the nudge of hush puppies. They smell heavenly, admittedly, and it is equally uneasy how willingly she reaches to acknowledge and accept his offering.[break][break]

"Bo."[break][break]

Her fingers brush against his and hesitate, before she finds the hush puppy between his fingers to pluck it free. This close, it would be hard to miss the bandage covering one eye and see how dark her sunglasses are - nearly impossible for her to see through.

He didn’t say her name back. Just gave a light, “Hey.” A smile—if she could see it past such dark shades. He briefly noted the bandage over her eye, but said nothing of it. Then, he felt her touch, and it almost startled him.

Could Emma not see?

Fingertips released the hushpuppy to the apparently blinded beast, and then popped another into his own mouth. They’d walk in silence for a moment, maybe.

“Bet you’re kickin’ ass out here, huh?”

Slowly, the woman lifts the hush puppy to her lips. For a long moment her mind races with memories, and although somewhat cloudy, most are.. fond.[break][break]

He does not say her name and it offers her a window to 'reintroduce' herself. [break][break]

"Anna."[break][break]

For a moment longer they walk in silence, and Bo interrupts it to kickstart another conversation. She glances at him with a subtle tilt of her cheek.[break][break]

"Hmm.. sometimes."[break][break]

There is a small smile to grace her lips; a knowing one. Kicking too much ass would draw attention, and she was here more or less to enjoy herself and to scout for Rocket- sort of.

“Nice to meet you.”

Gold eyes shifted over again as he chewed, briefly so as to not make her uncomfortable. Emma, or Anna, was a well-known strong-type, and those weren’t the types to bother about their injuries, in his experience.

Bo had been an enforcer of sorts, during his time in Rocket, and had reappeared time and time again with his own share of dings and dents. She was a fighter. Fights always had cuts and bruises. If asked about every single one, they’d have to go on forever. The stories undoubtedly grew old.

“Well... I have no doubt you can give me a run for my money, still. Battle me?”

He knew she had the ability to squash him if she really tried—but she’d never known him weak, and he’d only gotten stronger since.

She hums a bit, a muted note of humor. Her use of his name had been a slip of the tongue, but it didn't feel out of place. 'Anna' regards him for a moment, even if she can't perceive the details in his face. Does he still look the same as he had?[break][break]

"Why not? After all, this is why I am here, no?"[break][break]

There is a free field up ahead, coincidentally. Or perhaps he had already had it reserved and happened to find her along the way.

He nodded, and smiled again when she accepted his challenge. Someone like Emma, or ‘Anna’, could have only grown stronger in the since he’d left Rocket.

“Figured so.”

Reaching for a pokeball containing his Armaldo, he looked for a good space to start a battle.

“Ready then? Looks like a good spot over there.”

He pointed to ‘over there.’

She had, and hadn't.[break][break]

Emma, unfortunately, does not look in any direction at all when he points. The gesture is too subtle that she doesn't feel or hear it. He says 'over there' and she sucks in a breath.[break][break]

"I am.. a bit under the weather. If you don't mind escorting me."[break][break]

There is a tightness to her delivery, evidence of a bruised ego or crushed spirit. [break][break]

Once in position, Emma releases her Ariados.

But this confirmed it. She really couldn’t see.

He wanted to ask her why she was out in public in such a condition. It was dangerous. But, he felt he knew better. Emma would make her own decisions, as much of a mystery as they were.

“Of course.”

He held out an arm for her to take, and they made their way over.

“Okay. I’m leaving you here. I’ll be across from you, y’know.” Felt stupid to say, but he said it anyways.

Once on the other side, he called out. “I’m using Aurorus!”

It was released.

Boruta had caught her alone and walking along the shore. She'd been out of harms way and minding her own business- her Lycanroc somewhere nearby. She had only been alone for a few minutes, but long enough to put on display how fish-out-of-water she is.[break][break]

And, as humiliating as it is, Emma slips her hand overtop of his arm, allowing him to guide her to their field. [break][break]

".. I know."[break][break]

He leaves her behind on the other side, then shouts back to her about the Aurorus he releases. She inclines her head to the Ariados, and the spider approaches the scene, quiet. The ice dinosaur severely outsized her own Pokemon and exudes cold air. Emma can feel it even on her side of the field.[break][break]

"Get in there."[break][break]

Ariados launches forward with a burst of AGILITY.

While Emma was in a poor state, Bo had no intention of disrespecting her by holding back. Emma was one of Rocket’s strongest forces, and even the small size of her Ariados in comparison to Aurorus did nothing to give him any sense of advantage. He was no fool—except for maybe sometimes, actually. That one with Raphael Pryde had been a doozie.

But not now.

Aurorus had difficulty keeping track of the Ariados as it shot towards them with AGILITY. It would be not be able to match the spider’s speed—not even by a longshot, now.

“LIGHT SCREEN.”

The move had already been in progress, flashing around the Aurorus brilliantly. Bo would make it a point to call out his commands, even if it was unnecessary.

Sand kicks up in her advance, but she stops short when the light catches in a thin veil or screen right in front of her. It seems to follow the Aurorus, protecting her. [break][break]

Emma glances up at Bo's voice, moderately surprised. She did not often spell out attacks or plans to her own Pokemon - especially not to her Ariados. It was one of her oldest, and she expected it to know what to do.[break][break]

Ariados sprays TOXIC in the Aurorus' direction. But it seems to hit the LIGHT SCREEN and slip to the ground, settling into the sand.

The TOXIC spray that jet from the spider was well-aimed, but splattered against the beautifully shifting colors of the ice-type’s shield. She called out to her opponent triumphantly, encouraging another assault.

There was another glow as rocks rose from the ground out of the sand. "ROCK THROW," Bo commanded, and it sent them launching towards the arachnid. Aurorus remained in place, not attempting to keep up with the movement of her opponent.

Ariados scuttles backward as the toxic splashes back. It doesn't land on her, thankfully, but she glances from it to the Aurorus behind the shimmering, nearly invisible shield.[break][break]

There is a moment of hesitation as the ground rumbles beneath them. Emma tilts her chin, listening, and her spider jumps to avoid one of the thrown rocks. But several more follow right behind the first, and the Ariados is forced to protect herself with CROSS POISON, smashing the rocks as they come.[break][break]

Several glance off of her body, however, and she seems to pant. Could spiders pant?
