There was a reason Emma kept so few Pokemon - and a reason that so many of them had died during the Blackout of Slateport. If they didn't listen, didn't catch on and didn't adapt during their training, they didn't last long.[break][break]

Ariados had lasted the longest by far.[break][break]

Electricity sparks across the ground, super-charged by the damp sand. It catches Ariados by the leg, dragging it to the ground with a great thud. Now immobile and paralyzed, it seems the THUNDER WAVE was a success.[break][break]

The spider was PARALYZED. Bo was unsure whether to let her know—but trusted that she could hear the lack of movement. Emma was sharp. Surely, she didn’t crumble at the loss of one sense.

“ROCK THROW, again.”

And again, rocks came up from the ground and were sent to thrown towards the motionless Ariados with great force.

Weakness is not a state she preferred to express. She had never given any opportunity to expose her belly, for fear of the teeth that waited to rip her open. She could survive anything- but not that.[break][break]

And to hear her spider lay down, figuratively belly-up, was devastating.[break][break]

The ground shakes with the impact of every single rock thrown. She counts them, feels the vibration reach her all the way on her side of the field. Emma exhales.[break][break]

And the Ariados does not get back up, unconscious beneath its tomb.

The spider was impacted, and he watched as it took damage until it crumbled to their Aurorus’s assault, motionless. His eyes hung there for a moment. It felt weird to win against Emma.

“I think that’s it, Anna.”

He helped call it, in case she couldn’t.

Bo always had been good—at least in the Rocket days. He’d been really good. Perhaps, even on his way to beast, like Emma. He’d been a ruthless enforcer, before he’d rerouted and changed his mind, shocking everyone. At the time, it had seemed so sudden.

“You too.”

He walked towards her once his Aurorus had been returned, as though figuring he might join her on a walk.

“You too.” He repeated with a nod.

And, maybe, they’d continue down the beach and catch up—or maybe not. Either way, his evening would be better for having run into yet another old, friendly face—despite how gray it all was.
