another one on one battle.

sam stepped up into the middle of the arena, his phantump hovering behind him and seeming not to give a single care in the world. just bobbing along. when sam stopped, he hadn't been paying attention, and bonked his little stump on the back of sam's calf. with a small hollow whine, he righted his stump and gave where he'd bumped an apologetic pat.

without acknowledging it, besides a dismissive wave of his hand, sam held his hand out for killian to take.

"dominick," cue sam giving a sassy brow wiggle because when he'd first met killian, he'd gone by dominick and not killian which was the name on the board when he saw which opponent he would face. "good to see you again. good luck."

trust issues, huh? don't we all? sam thought, keeping it to himself and heading to his side of the arena as the first move was given to him.

"if you insist. dryad," the phantump's calm and bounce exterior seemed to melt away, revealing a more serious expression as the stump turned in a circle. "set up."

throwing his arms forward, seeds shot from his hands. they landed around the eevee, attempting a LEECH SEED.

Slack jawed and motionless, they landed and entangled her fur in roots. "Go, attack." Timeless isn't trained to respond to his whistle quite yet. He'll have to issue orders the old-fashioned way.

"Use Bite."

Timeless nodded and rushed toward the undead plant. She leaped, sharp fangs poised to Bite into spectral bark.

that bite was super effective, causing the phantump to whine. the energy being leeched helped him to stay alive, but there was something about the eevee's teeth that caused the phantump rage.

in a counter, he shifted his body away from those fangs and gave the eevee a hit of his stump. the HORN LEECH would sap energy from the eevee on top of the leech seed.

while the eevee would lose energy, the phantump would gain it. hopefully that would win them the match.

He understood Sam's plan now. Time to use it against him.

"Timeless, Copycat!"

Energy swelled and a translucent horn spawned from Timeless's forehead. She lunged in and attempted to impale the Phantump and siphon her lifeforce back.

when the eevee became unieevee thanks to the copycat, sam smiled. it was sort of comical to witness, if he was being honest with himself.

and he was nothing if not honest with himself. rare times did he lie to himself. what was the point?

so he allowed the soft chuckle, but still focused on the battle.

"one more time!"

yet another HORN LEECH was released, attaching to the eevee and sucking the life from it. if the eevee continued to be persistent, sam would have to make some more drastic calls.

casual conversation, mid-battle? how rude, but it would be more rude not to answer. his eyes never leave the battle though. he stays focused.

"i haven't yet."

his phantump fairs fine, using a CURSE on the eevee and absorbing the energy from it. the eevee's horn leech doesn't do nearly as much damage as the phantumps-- that type resistance coming into play.

[attr="class","hirepost"]Poor Timeless. She's trying her best, but this wasn't the best match-up for her. All but one of her moves are useless against the ghost-type. It's almost like some cruel player stacked the odds against her on purpose.

"Sorry to hear that. You know, I could always breed you one."

The will to fight is leaving Eevee quickly from the combination of draining moves. Her breathing is heavy, movements sluggish. She can't quit. For whatever reason, it feels like she has something to prove.

Timeless attempted another Bite against the tree spirit.

dryad let’s put a pained cry. it is a close call, the match. but he doesn’t give up. instead he fights forward, yet another HORN LEECH. the stump is driven into silver fur, sucking the life out of the eevee.

What was this stump and trying to siphon her dry? Timeless growled. The dawn of her defeat crept closer by the second. She slumped down to her knees, weight pulling her eyelids down slowly.

Killian frowned.

"Come on, Timeless. You can do this."

She couldn't, and they both knew it. Still, Eevee mustered enough strength to stand. Attacking, on the other hand? Impossible.

seeing the eevee struggle didn't much bother sam. that canine was trying very hard to prove itself in some way and it was so evident that even sam could see it.

"let the leech seed knock it out. well done dryad."

the encouragement is given and dryad finds himself puffing up. sam notices it for what it is, a GROWTH in the works. just in case that eevee tries a fast one.

at least the curse self-damage was repaired, even if not the sharp fangs of that bite.

"Thanks for the battle, Sam." the admin crossed his arms.

"How about we discuss breeding you that Eevee in a more more detail now?"
