[break][break] 'a meltan?' the words strike a flicker of familiarity within jayden — he remembers reading about such a pokemon in the recluses of the sub's library. the surprise passes by quickly - if at all. eris would not be able to notice it.

He asks a question that earns him more confusion than answers. As Eris looks at Jayden with the blankest of looks, it's clear that she's thinking of something! Or maybe she isn't, her brain's been fried and she's simply reaching a state of absolute inner peace.

Mercury seems to take the lead under these circumstances, its blobby hands swaying in the wind as it bounces up and down. With a coo and a chirp, it nods at Jayden, pointing at his pockets and spreading his arms wide. Then, it begins to punch the air, giving the oddest growl that it can muster.

Sparing its trainer a glance, Mercury seems a little too pleased with its own grand plan, even when Eris returns the most empty of gazes. What in the world had it meant by that odd series of actions?

the strange-looking pokemon looks at him, waving it's goopy arms and punching in the air. to anyone else, it would have looked absolutely ridiculous.

[break][break] but jayden understands.

[break][break] he gives a firm nod. "that sounds like a good start. c'mon, let's find a battle field." he leads their way through the throngs of other trainers to a part of beach that is kept slightly away. it's even protected by a small outcropping of rocks and a palm tree, providing them enough cover from prying eyes.

[break][break] putting some distance between them, jayden's fingers flick to the pokeball at his waist. there is a bright flicker of light as he releases a pokemon.

[break][break] "let's start with one first." the duskull that materializes before them is a different hue than most -- it's shiny red glare looking ominous even under the luminescent glow of the sun. "chernobog, night shade."

[break][break] a soft outline of light surrounds the pokemon as it floats in mid-air, darkness rising around it as it aims the attack at the meltan.

Far from prying eyes and judgemental people, Eris feels a little more at ease when allowing Mercury to leave her side. The Meltan coos and tumbles, waddling along the arena as it watches the opponent that stands before it.

Before Eris can even hope to give a command, Mercury squeals, swatting at the air as though haunted by something. It then growls and leaps at the Duskull, looking to give it a strong Headbutt.

Success! It stops to look at her, gurgling softly as it tries to understand what working together entails.

There's a brief moment of silence, a lightbulb going off in their brains as they seem to connect! But soon after, the Meltan points to its head questioningly, then shakes as it flails its stubby arms at the Duskull.

With a whistle, Eris clasps her hands together before springing them wide open like an explosion. And it seems to work, guiding Mercury to gather energy then allow it to explode for a Thunder Shock.

electricity sparks through the air, ringing the duskull's fabric skirt. unlike the normal type move from earlier, the electric type move is effective. perhaps too effective, jayden thinks as he watches his ghost type struggle to recover.

[break] [break] normally a move of this caliber would not have made chernobog writhe in so much pain. however… it was clear to jayden that this was far from a normal pokemon.

[break] [break] a low whistle. tiny blue flames glow around the duskull before shooting out at the meltan.

it's a show. maybe meltan knows it.

[break][break] for some reason, though, as jayden is observing it, the pokemon looks almost angry.

[break][break] lugh is perfectly aware of his surroundings even as he lays on the ground, big fat tears spilling from his cheeks. he's so aware of his surroundings that it doesn't surprise him when the other pokemon rushes him — in fact, he's basically waiting for it.

[break][break] he jumps out of the way in the last second and uses HYPNOSIS. rings of yellow light beam out in front of him, the reflection of his visage nearly cocky.
