Unfortunately even Fenrir proved to be a nasty, greedy little shit—reaching for way too much than the dual-type could handle.

“Oy,” was all he could say, as the Noivern then turned tail and cobbled away, joining the Lucario wherever the two were throwing up in private.

“Geez, they should really slow down,” he added with a sigh before watching as this time—oh no.

His Charizard was up next.

“Rav, no, don’t you dare—” he exclaimed as the Charizard literally grabbed the watermelon and sank her fangs into it. Caring less about what the hell she was eating, and more on wanting to cool down.

“Yeesh,” he groaned as he slapped his left hand to his face before sliding it down.

Zac laughed at the Charizard chomping on the big melon. "No better way to cool off ay mate?" Zac called to the big reptile. Truly, watermelon was the highlight of any summer.

Up last for Zac was San Della Cruz. The third, and most mischievous, of Zac's Lycanroc. This one wore the Articuno costume, letting it billow out behind him and clash violently with his orange fur. "You look great, buddy!" Zac said supportively, thoroughly undermining San Della Cruz's attempts to look cool by resisting authority. 

Lycanroc sneezed its dissent, and started gnawing one end off the watermelon, chewing its way inside with practiced efficiency.

“At least she didn’t get greedy and eat too much too soon,” he chuckled as the Charizard finished off the watermelon before giving the biggest burp she could summon up.

“Gross, Rav,” he said with a grin as the Charizard lumbered away for a nap.

Last to the bat was his Altaria, Mishka. Seeing as how the Altaria was just a literal fluffy cloud, he returned to the table and sliced up the last watermelon that had been rolled their way.

“Don’t be greedy like Fen or Vince now, okay?!” he said to the Altaria, who hummed before floating towards the watermelon and eating her way through it.

Turning to look at the other man’s Lycanroc, he laughed.

“Oh no. Is that some bootleg merch? My friend keeps dying of embarrassment because of all the fake merch flying around,” he continued with a peal of laughter.

San Della Cruz popped out the other end of the watermelon. The trip through had pushed back the Articuno hat, revealing his happy face, tongue wagging and breath smelling like watermelon and Tauros jerky. "Look! It's a little Articuno emerging from its watermelon egg!" Zac said, taking a picture of his dog to email to . "Cute little devil!"

Now it was Zac's turn. His team had smashed the watermelons, with only a single casualty. It was time to bring the team home. With gusto, Zac cracked into his watermelon and devoured the broken wedges.

Alexei guffawed at the commentary for the Lycanroc that had managed to eat through the watermelon without even going through the five stages of grief. In fact the watermelon was demolished in short order.

“How can an Articuno hatch from a watermelon if the color scheme doesn’t match?!” he said in between peals of laughter as he tried to calm himself down.

Once he’d managed to hiccup himself to a state of ‘seriousness’, it was time for the final showdown—

Oh no.

“Wait, what?!” he exclaimed.

“Okay, if I’m eating this can I bust out my chocolate sauce?” he asked, before looking around and finding the bottle of chocolate sauce he’d brought along and slathering it on the chunk he was about to eat.

“Bottoms up,” he said with a grin on his face as he took his first bite.

Apparently Alexei had worked up quite an appetite. In the time it took Zac to finish a decent sized piece, the other gym leader was already done! "Whoa! Where did ya hide it all?" Zac laughed. 

The judges called and end to the competition, and summoned Alexei up on stage, where he was awarded his crown, and two complimentary watermelons. "Nice work mate!" Zac said, slapping the other man on the back. "I knew you had it in ya. Watermelon, that is!"
