what an interesting concept, sam thought, when he signed up for this particular non-traditional battle. a game of tic-tac-toe, but competitive. there was even a grid on the ground of the arena to help the trainers keep track.

A: 1 | 2 | 3
B: 1 | 2 | 3
C: 1 | 2 | 3

the two start with six pokemon. placing a pokemon on an open space, free. if a trainer desired to 'steal' a taken slot, the pokémon would attack. if the attack hits, the pokémon is considered 'out' and can no longer be used in the battle. if the move hits, the position is taken. first to three in a row, winner.

something like this seemed like great fun. sam tossed out a pokébal to reveal his gastly, megaera, and watched as she flaunted herself to the audience for attention. he was ready, then he saw his opponent, and he waved his arm.

"ji-hoon. fancy seeing you here. good luck."

He raised his arm and gave a wave to the other, grinning wide.

Since Sam had called out a ghost, he called out his own ghost pokemon. A Mimikyu. The ghost type growled before sinking into the ground.

"This is pretty cool.... wanna flip to see who goes first?" The flip can be totally arbitrary and you can go first if you want.

sam nodded, moving over and fashioning out some coin. he flipped it, called, then looked at the result. his win, so he gave ji-hoon a playful shrug as if to say, 'what'll you do?'

with that, he looked to his dramatic gastly who was practicing how to wisp her self-proclaimed 'cute' wisps about in the air. her large and obnoxious eyelashes batting in the wind.

"x's it is. meg, 'A one'."

megaera gave a whine as if she couldn't believe she was being interrupted and floated into the spot demanded of him.

Chu-e hummed as he studied the 'board'. A quick tapping of the chin.

"Glimmer! Right for the middle!" In other words, B2. The Mimikyu formed upwards into the spot, hunkering down defensively.

Chu-e was already taking out another few pokeballs. He needed to have more pokemon out to claim more spots, after all.

as the next pokémon of ji-hoon's took the field, sam tossed out a pokéball and released his haunter, tisiphone.

"siph, b one."

the haunter watched the mimikyu and gave the gastly, magaera, a tickle on his way over to his spot. mageara glared, sticking her tongue out like a diva, siph only snickered.

He called out one of his Gardevoir, his female one, and gave her a quick rundown of what was happening.

"C 1!" The only correct answer unless he wanted to instantly lose.

sam called out yet another pokémon, his gengar, alecto.

"a three, alecto."

the ectoplasmic nightmare giggled and wobbled with a bounce in his waddle all the way over to the spot. once there, he stopped at the line, wiggled his little ghostly bootie, and hopped into the spot before throwing his hands up like he'd won a marathon, grinning over at sam.

who just smiled right back and nodded.

"you're a peach."

then alecto blushed and put his hands together, a proper :eiscueblush: maneuver.

Chu-e mused to samuel carter as he looked at the board. It was looking kind of dicey here.... He was kind of just blocking. Maybe he should try and take a space soon.

A Ralts was called out this time, who he also quickly explained what was happening before sending him on his way.

just blocking was just fine with sam. if he could get the board filled up, it would depend on laying a final attack and stealing a spot. if that was the case, then that was the case.

plus it gets more endeavors for pokémon used, right?

calling out his duskull, he gave her a smile. "c two, please."

while he might not have been explaining to them why they were moving to the field, they moved anyway. the duskull paid the few other ghosts he was familiar with no mind. but the new cuties? the fairies? her orb of an eye shimmered and she gave them all friendly waves of delight.

she loved meeting new pokémon!

All of these ghost types.... creepy. Chu-e wondered if samuel carter knew jayden cross. He liked ghost types the best, right?

Well, anyway, Chu-e wasn't out of Gardevoir YET. Another one was called out, this one male and who had half of his hand cut off. He huffed at Sam.

"Prince, go to C 3."

The pokemon nodded before making his way over.

Just one more space and then it would probably be war.

Taking up that last space was pointless for Sam. So he looked to Siph and gave a small nod.

”Take out C one.”

Siph began forming a ball of poisonous slime in his hands, then he launched the SLUDGE BOMB at the Pokémon in the C1 slot.

But anyway so Sam just lost.

Knowing this, he gave a fond smile to his Pokémon and made his way over to the winner.

It was a fair game and he wouldn’t complain.
