Initially he thought it was a pie-judging contest. However, the intent became clear when it was a…

“Pie-eating contest?!” he exclaimed once he arrived at the location.

Look, the last time he was in an eating contest half of his Pokémon had to make a run for it because they got too greedy and chowed down too hard.

“Okay…” he said apprehensively, settling down on one of the tables. “So… who am I going up against?”

Chu-e was sat down across from Alexei Ivanov, the same perplexed look on his face.

"I thought this was a pie-judging." He sounded almost forlorn as a massive cherry pie was sat down in front of him.

".... oh! My pie-rival and Zac Ramsay's friend! Are you here to..." He tried to sound all cool and suave, but then looked down at the pie and frowned.

He could't eat all that.

“You know, same!” he exclaimed from across the table, looking down at the monstrous-sized cherry pie.

“Wait—what?! It’s an eating contest?!”

A similar-sized pie was then laid down next to each Pokémon the challengers were packing along.

A whistle then signaled the start of the competition!

“Wait—right now?!” he exclaimed as he grabbed the fork and began eating. His chosen ‘champion’, Gabriel the Salamence, gave a confused look while digging in as well.

At least his Houndoom could eat with the best of them. The canine started to chomp vigorously at the pie, making those dog 'shlop shlop shlop' eating noises.

Chu-e whined but picked up his fork. He started to eat.... as much as he could. Which wasn't much.

"I hate this." He said between bites.

Gabriel wasn’t going to allow himself to be defeated at this.

The draconid was slurping noisily through the pan—never mind if it made him look like a serial killer in the process as the cherry filling splattered all over his maw as he continued to attack the pie.

“Well, at least I can say the pie is tasty,” he said from across the table, munching on his share slowly but surely.

The Salamence was already done with the first pie tin, and was therefore handed another to chow down on. Shit, where did the draconid put it all?!

“Hmm, you’re right,” he remarked as he poked the crust of the cherry pie before eating another section. “Not to mention some of it is still—rather gummy in places.”

The Houndoom burped. Another pie was placed in front of him, this one blueberry. Chu-e was still poking at the cherry one.

He leans into Alexei Ivanov a little, as if whispering a secret to him.

Salamence was having the time of his life with a strawberry pie—okay why did they keep giving him red-filled pies? Now he looked even more of a bloodthirsty monster than earlier!

Alexei’s face crumpled as he pulled out something—and then sighed.

“You know what? I think you may be right. Look at this!” he exclaimed quietly as he showed something to the other man.

“Fresh cherries don’t taste like this!”

A third pie, this time a lemon one, was laid down in front of the Salamence who proceeded to attack it ravenously.

Chu-e put his fork down. He would let his pokemon have his fill of the pies and just take his defeat. There was no way he was eating anymore. His stomach couldn't handle it.

"This is just sub-par. Why have a pie contest and not even have good pies? To make us all suffere?"

Even he only managed a little over half of his pie, but hey, nobody would say no to free food after all.
