The sub was impressive. A bit of a walk about had revealed, of all things, a fully intact bar. Complete with bartender.

With little to do other than observe, Calem found himself seated and ordering a scotch.

The place was mostly empty for this time of day, many out doing work or missions or the like. He was one of few unbusy.

Cillian Quinn had told him to be 'good', after all.

But his eyes did linger on one other person present. Curious.

On the other end of the bar, away from anyone else that might’ve been seated and partly shrouded beneath the best shadow she could find, sat Lulu.

Finishing the end of an aged tequila, she looked up towards the bartender, only to find unexpected eyes on her from another seat. She glared at them coldly before ordering another and dragging it back into her dimly lit bubble of isolation.

A hiss was all that was missing, maybe.

The glare is met with a smile.

Like anyone drawn to dangerous things, Calem picks up his scotch and makes his way over.

"Alcohol not up to par?" Seating himself next to her, a cheshire grin sticks to his lips as he gets a sip of his own drink.

There isn't any bother to hide how his eyes wander before settling for Lulu Flint's eyes.

Her glare never softened, although it might’ve left him disinterestedly. It kept wandering back to check if he was still looking, and then, he was beside her.

The alcohol? Was it the look on her face?

“What?”

Her eyes caught his wandering and she cocked her head, wondering about his sanity. Was he new?

It just so happened he was new! Only been in Hoenn a few days, first day on the sub. Fancy that.

Almost teasingly, he lifted a finger to trace her frown in the air.

"You don't seem very happy."

A simple explanation.

The question for his sanity was still up in the air, though.

At least Calem wasn't put off so easy.

Her eyes went a tiny bit wider; a tiny bit crazier.

“Don’t I?”

A sip of her tequila stayed a demon who was not one to be poked. It bared teeth, though, and she leaned in towards him a bit with her snarl.

“You don’t seem very smart.”

For every bit her eyes widened, so did his smile.

Calem had met much worse demons than what Lulu Flint thought herself to be.

"Not really." Was easily agreed, a light chuckle leaving him.

He shifted his scotch in his hand, the ice tinkling against the glass.

"You're trying to intimidate me. Only a fool like me would think it makes you prettier."

Perhaps one day, she’d blow shadow out of her nose like smoke from a bull in those cartoons. Maybe sometimes, it’d even come out of her ears.

Inside, something squealed like a kettle, but the heat only flushed her cheeks. She turned away, casually hiding it behind a dark curtain of hair. Her shoulders tensed, and she pulled her drink to her lips again, cooling herself.

“You are being foolish.”

"At least I'm a fool with excellent taste."

Replied back without missing a beat. Calem tipped his drink back and drained it, raising a hand for a refill.

"If it's not too much trouble, could this fool ask your name?"

An elbow rested on the bar, his cheek leaning against that hand. That grin easy on his face.

She didn’t agree with that either.

Her frown disappeared with too much frequency within the glass in her hand, ice clinking lightly as she raised it again.

It was clear that he was not going to let her drink in peace. Why she kept coming here was beyond her. Sometimes it just felt right after a long day in the labs, and teleporting home rerailed her a bit more. She tended to come right back to work within only an hour or two at the lighthouse.

“Sure. It’s Lulu.” Her voice was still short; bitter.

He wracked his mind for some trivia, bought himself a moment by finishing off his drink.

"Did you know that means 'precious'?" He had always hated Father's etymology classes the worst. At least now it seemed to prove a bit useful.

A lovely name.

How could it be lovely if it was fake?

“No it doesn’t,” she responded, with all the confidence in the world. Maybe it did, but hers didn’t. Not her ‘Lulu’. She wouldn’t give this man the satisfaction of telling her something about herself, even if it was true.

She sipped her drink again, not acknowledging his own introduction much at first. “Hm.”

Lulu was bitter, angry, and hard to get to in most cases.

She placed the side of her face on her hand, propped up on an elbow against the top of the bar to look over at him.

“What are you doing right now, Calem?”

Answered, matter of fact, that same Cheshire curl to his lips.

"At least I would like to. You're making it a bit hard." Yet, he didn't seem the least bit bothered, just letting out a soft huff of laughter. Idly, he mirrored her, propping his head up in the same way, turning to face her more clearly.

Was that a bad joke? Lulu crinkled her nose briefly, the trace of a cringe, before drowning her sharp tongue in tequila.

It was true that Lulu fed off aggressive natures, but this type of aggression? Only with the rare exception, and certainly no stranger. This was likely to get one knocked off their stool.

She refrained, for now.

“Do you usually pick out the least friendly looking person in the room to talk to?”

Lulu was more than well aware of her bitchface—not to mention, she’d been intentionally glaring at him for some time.
