There was, of course, no doorbell on the Sotally Tober. It was merely today's hilarious prank by Chryssa and Chatot, who proceeded up the gangplank in a cacophony of mashed-doorbell tones while balancing enough cardboard boxes to make you think she was moving in.

That wasn't far from the truth.

"I have the goods, Angelo," the girl announced as her entourage of psychic Pokemon helped her float her boxes down the stairs to the end of the corridor. skyler dross was away on a treasure hunt, so Chryssa and Angelo were free to do whatever they wanted today. No washing the deck! No scrubbing Betty the Boiler! No long hours in the burning sun, scanning the horizon for pirate threats from the top mast!

None of that had ever happened, but Chryssa liked to think it might.

To get her mind off the fact that A. she was probably wanted by the police for questioning regarding the escape of a certain giona ferrara and B. Reality was crumbling around her, Chryssa had decided to play some of her old virtual reality games with her friend Angelo today.

The Sotally Tober was woefully unequipped for gaming, so by the time said Angelo arrived, he would see game cartridges and VR headsets flying around the room, consoles plugging themselves into local outlets, and two chairs marching themselves in from the kitchen.

"Have you played Witch Strike?" Chryssa asked brightly, already fitting a headset over her eyes and groping blindly for one of the hard wooden chairs. She took a seat, crossing her legs smugly. "It's a racing game where you fight witches. The witches don't have pants, by the way, so I'm sure you'll love it."

“Ah, here she is. My favourite troublemaker's finally arrived.” Troublemaker however, was probably far too innocent of a term these days.[break][break]

‘My favourite fugitive’ was probably more accurate now. [break][break]

Angelo stands in the doorway to the kitchen as he watches Chryssa and her entourage board the Sotally Tober with enough contents to fill the apartment to the ceiling, calloused hands cradling a steaming mug to himself as a lazy eyebrow raises. The coffee does little to chase away the shadows beneath exhausted eyes, nor motivate him to fix the unkempt hair or stubble; but the teenager’s arrival does bring a twinkle to blue and a genuine smile. [break][break]

chryssa glasgow is guaranteed to keep you alert better than any caffeine hit, even if it is primarily from survival instincts kicking in. Angelo knows from experience. [break][break]

“Took you long enough. Sammy here’s been waiting all morning for you.” [break][break]

It’s not everyday that the Sotally Tober’s very own assistant cook gets to help prepare meals for more than two. [break][break]

And it becomes clear as a Gulpin shuffles past Angelo’s feet, chef hat proudly placed over his single plumage and a plate of warmed croissants carefully carried in stubby arms, that Sammy’s excited to have an extra seat occupied at the kitchen table. [break][break]

Sadly, by the time the little green creature slinks across the floor, Chryssa has already slipped on her headset. He resigns himself to popping the plate of breakfast pastries and jam condiments on the coffee table, of which he will surely check later to see if she’s eaten. [break][break]

“Witch Strike…? No. Never heard of it.” Stepping into the living space, Angelo places his coffee beside Chryssa’s breakfast to scoop up one of the mask devices she's already put on. It’s not really saying much; he’s never really owned a game console. [break][break]

“So, this is the essential stuff you couldn't live without...” Angelo turns the headset in his hands, curious and a little out of his depth. He doesn’t bother to correct Chryssa’s comment as he takes the other seat. “Okay, so what? You put this thing on and you get to see girls with no pants?”

"I smell croissants," Chryssa said, pronouncing it like 'kwa-SONts' in her phoniest Kalosian accent. She groped around with one hand, trying to find the plate and the Gulpin without looking away from the fascinating title screen of WITCH STRIKE.

Not everyone made trips to Evergrande City to pick up video games in the dead of night. Chryssa thought she'd earned this celebratory breakfast. Egg-free, I might add, she thought. She'd have to go looking on her own for the 'rare eggs' skyler dross had promised.

"I don't recall mentioning girls, Angelo," the fugitive said brightly, managing to locate the jam and promptly knocking it over. The warm plate finally clued her fingers in to her prize and she grabbed a croissant, victorious. "They're Pokemon witches. Quick, name three Pokemon wearing pants." She was sure there were some.

Cool, witchy music played as the title screen started up and Chryssa waved her croissant emphatically. "Please hurry up, I'm already choosing my plane. I'm going to start flying without you..."

She scrolled through the plane options with one hand, nibbling on the pastry with the other. She chose a bubbly pink and white plane with a cheerful expression, which cried "Let's get along!" as she selected it. The game was a little old and its graphics weren't the best, but it had been praised for its realistic play style (for what that was worth.)

"Do you want to play a full tournament?" Chryssa asked politely, selecting <PLAY FULL TOURNAMENT> without waiting for his answer.

Angelo’s nose wrinkles. Chryssa needn’t be able to see the expression that pinches his features, to know there’s disappointment in the air. [break][break]

“Pokemon witches with no pants…?” Within his hands sits the headset, not yet in place as he mirrors the statement back at their fugitive guest. Words tasted slowly on his tongue, like his mouth is filled with less than appetizing taffy. [break][break]

Angelo had never owned a gaming console growing up. The closest that he and his siblings had had was a couple of old, unreliable arcade machines that sat in a dark corner of their local pokemart. Fuzzily, he remembers one that ran a game with what might have been a Gulpin running around a maze, chased by four different coloured Shuppet… [break][break]

In short, Angelo had never been bitten by the gamer bug or been tempted to stick his finger in its mouth. Even less so, now that Chryssa had ripped away a fun, short-lived fantasy of flying around with witch ladies in their underwear. [break][break]

“Boring…” Comes the begrudging mutter under his breath, flopping down onto the couch and cramming his head into the apparatus with a little less enthusiasm than before. “Just so you know, if there’s a Machamp witch with no pants, I’m quitting.”[break][break]

Then he enters the game. [break][break]

‘Gotta Fly Fast!’ Cries the slimline blue plane with red accents Angelo picks, its cocky voice ringing weirdly familiar in his ear. Had he heard that quote before? Surely not… [break][break]

“So, uh… How do I use this thing?” He asks, physically looking left and right towards where Chryssa may have been sitting in the real world, while the environment beyond the lens sways violently back and forth. Before it rights itself, Angelo cranes his neck back to see how far this ‘game world’ stretched…[break][break]

“Ow.”
