At the sound of the familiar voice, he looked up—only in time to see that Locke had gotten poked by a, no surprise, a Trumbeak of all things.

“Oof,” he chuckled as he leaned on the cane he was hobbling around with. Infinitely better than a crutch, right? “When’d you get that?” he inquired, knowing how long it took for his own horde to settle down and get used to being around him.

Mercifully, he was with the ‘pack leader’ of the ‘BBB’ right now, as a loud, squawking noise announced its presence. The Toucannon (not shiny, how he wished) emerged from a nearby tree and saw that there was an incoming threat in the form of a Ferroseed.

Before they could exchange any further words, the Ferroseed then proceeded to attack the Toucannon with a Pin Missile attack! Not wanting to be outdone, the tropical bird then alighted on Alexei’s shoulder.

“What, you want to do that now?!” he exclaimed, before getting an affirmative squawk in response.

Laughing nervously in Locke’s direction, he then said, “Stand back,” before hoisting the Toucannon on his right shoulder like a fucking rocket launcher.

“Go,” was all he said a few moments afterward, and the Toucannon then released a blast of energy, not unlike a missile being launched from its multi-colored maw—in reality it was just the Beak Blast attack!



The attack screamed in the direction of the Ferroseed, still flinging barbs—and when the dust settled…

There was no Ferroseed in sight.

Thankfully, after the explosive—happenings, the Toucannon resting on his shoulder then turned to face Trumbeak perched on the little human’s arm with a precursory gaze.

“Sam, don’t scare the other like that!” he scolded the Toucannon, who then squawked in his direction while staying perched on said shoulder.

“Let me guess,” he remarked, “…your grandparents were attacked by them, right?” he gestured, tilting his head in the direction of the Trumbeak.

“They can be incredibly rowdy birds when left to their own devices—which is why a decisive hand is needed when taking care of one of their kind. It took me a while for Sam to get him to behave. It was—for lack of a better word—hell.”

As he said those words, a Ledian came flying lazily by, but a singular, loud Screeching noise from the Toucannon sent it scurrying away.

“Ow. Sam, at least warn me before you do that!” he exclaimed, poking the underside of the Toucannon’s beak slightly.

“…and yeah, when they start screaming, get ready to constantly brace yourself or have earplugs on-hand. It’s that loud.”

“It’s not really hopeless,” he continued, “…you just need to be firmer than usual with them. I know it may not go with your usual style of handling your Pokémon companions, but that’s how things go with this particular evolution line.”

At that, the Toucannon let out a singular squawk, before spotting an incoming Archen—and then taking off from his shoulder.

“They’re fiercely proud,” he went on, watching as the Archen and the Toucannon began tussling in mid-air by exchanging blows. The Archen began Throwing Rocks at the Toucannon; which in turn let out a shriek and began spitting out a Seed barrage fired like Bullets in response.

“…proud and stubborn,” he added as the Archen squawked as the hard-shelled seeds struck its wings before the Toucannon followed up with a close-range Beak Blast attack. While not as explosive as how he’d used it earlier, it was still potent at close-range.

Before the Archen could be obliterated sent reeling away with another potential Beak Blast, a Pokéball was thrown at it.

“Really?” he mused at Locke’s observation—well, he did give off a different air as compared to most. When it came to avians, though, that was where he had to bust out the claws.

“I normally try to take it easy with all the Pokémon I take care of,” he explained. “However, with this particular line—sometimes you gotta put a foot down so that they listen.”

At that moment, a Tsareena wandered into range, haughty Grass-type that suddenly came in guns blazing with a Trop Kick that—

“What the?!” he exclaimed as the Toucannon let out another deafening Screech in the Tsareena’s direction. “Sam! Be careful!” he added as the Tsareena turned around and attempted to lash out with a Power Whip attack.

The Toucannon, in response, released a Beak Blast once the Grass-type had come close enough. Another explosion shook the area, and once the smoke cleared—

“What the hell, Sam.”

Another Pokéball was thrown at the Grass-type.
