He was pretty much—set with all his collection of Pokémon, but—there was something that was bothering him.

While he hadn’t been able to finish the cooking thing that happened down at Slateport (everyone had just gotten buried in the chaos), there were rumors going around now—

About how a lot of people were converging on certain locations, looking for certain Pokémon.

Unown, he thinks they’re called?

The PokéGear returned little information about it, except for the fact that they were shaped like letters and—

And—

“Holy shit,” he said to himself, remembering something about these weird, sentient letters.

Shame he couldn’t travel back to Johto right now and poke around, seeing as this region was prone to blowing up when left unattended…

Zac was out for a wander again in Route 116. After witnessing two swarms of Unown he'd been keeping his ear to the ground, and heard tell of some sightings in the locations. Nothing too recent, but even a cold lead was better than nothing. "See anything yet?" he asked Yucca the Sceptile.

She shook her head, husky scales rattling, eyes never stopping their hunt. "Well keep an eye out, if those little buggers are going to be anywhere it'll be around here."

Zac walked east, sticking to the worn path as he headed for the Rustboro Tunnel.

Okay, so out of all the things he wasn’t expecting to see—

How in the hell did a Bibarel end up all the way out here, anyway? Weren’t they like, supposed to be close to water considering their habitat?

Before he could blink, a blur darted out from behind him, meeting the incoming Hyper Fang with a point-blank Meteor Mash attack right in the gut.

The loud squeal shook the area, and he sighed.

“Honestly, Alph, you could chill a bit,” he sighed as the Bibarel tried to Crunch at the Lucario, before being met with a point-blank Aura Sphere to the face.

Before it could be sent flying away, Lars threw an empty Pokéball—and then noticed he wasn’t alone.

“Zac?” he called out; that fiery mane of red hair was recognizable anywhere.

"Careful mate, you're scaring the locals!" Zac said in a loud whisper. He pointed to where a group of Bibarel and Bidoof were scuttling off down to the river. They took to the water, paddling across to the other side of the thin stream before disappearing into the thick underbrush.

Zac nodded his head further down the path, indicating with his eyes to where a Gothorita's black bows and wide eyes were visible through a screen of leaves. "I'm tryna keep a low profile here mate," Zac explained with a wink. "Keep the noise down. Don't wanna scare everything away."

“Sorry,” he remarked as he got closer—moving as quietly as possible.

He then realized what Zac was up to—a return to his roots, he noticed.

“Getting something for a new online video?” he hissed quietly; and with good measure too—there was a Hatenna dawdling around nearby, and he knew that this particular Pokémon line hated really loud noises.

Making sure to crouch down so he wasn’t easily seen, he then moved to join the other to observe whatever else came by in their natural habitat.

If Lars was particularly perceptive, he might notice the creeping spheres of uncracked Minior nestled in the underbrush along the road. They were waiting...

He had almost tripped over something, but looked down at the last second at the mention of ‘Minior’ he then realized he had almost stepped on one of Zac’s Pokémon.

“Whoa, thanks for the warning,” he hissed quietly, seeing a Lunatone fly by—only to go chase after the Lucario and Throwing a Rock at the jackal Pokémon.

“Alph! Take it down, quietly,” he hissed in the Lucario’s direction, before the dual-type dashed away to lead the Lunatone away from where Zac was filming.

Turning to Zac, he gestured.

“Looking for certain Pokémon, hopefully they turn up,” he replied.

Over where the Lucario had scampered away, a sudden blast of lunar energy came screaming at the Lucario—the Moonblast dodged with a last-second Extreme Speed before hitting the pointed nose if the Lunatone with a surprise Meteor Mash attack.

The sounds of a scuffle continued some distance away, before eventually the Lucario threw something at Lars’s feet—and he dropped an empty Pokéball on the Lunatone before it could blast them into the stratosphere.

"What are ya on the lookout for?" Zac asked, as they crept forward through the autumnal foliage. He shuffled his feet as they walked, pushing the dry leaves aside so they didn't crunch and crackle underfoot.

Ahead of them, Yucca prowled, keeping a golden eye out for any Unown. Black, glossy skin, and blinding white sclera. You couldn't miss them.

“A lot of things,” he remarked.

“But specifically a few, because of this app,” he added as he fished out his phone to show the other what he was on about.

It was an app that had a discussion board talking about certain groups of Pokémon, so there was a checklist of Pokémon to document—the topic just so happened to be on ‘celestial’ Pokémon that included Lunatone and Solrock. It was also handily linked to their respective storage units; which was why the Lunatone showed up as ‘caught’ on the record.

“That’s a lot of Pokémon I’m looking for, to be honest. While there’s no time limit to the ‘challenge’, well, everyone’s working to get as much information together about the lore and mythos.”

The Bruxish went unnoticed.

"Nice. Well I'm sure you'll complete that checklist in no time," Zac said, creeping ever-onwards towards the tunnel at the end of the route.

As they passed through a thick copse, Zac froze at the sound of a familiar call. "Is that—" he took out his pocket binoculars, peering through the thick trees. The sound came again, a high, honking call. "A Trumbeak! Those are bloody invasive. I'd better grab it. I know a guy who's building a sustainable flock up in Fortree. It keeps 'em from messing with the local ecosystems too much."

At Zac's signal, Yucca dashed ahead, and soon returned with the bird.
