Not even a week has passed since their visit to that small uninhabited island in order to deliver some Castform, and things have already complicated. In retrospect, secretly “keeping” one of them had probably been a bad idea, and they had both known as much even back then, but it’s not something Mars regrets – not even now as they walk down Route 116 because it escaped Cian’s apartment.

He has been saying “he”, but it’s not like they actually know the Castform’s gender, is it?

Mars knows all too well that if he’s worried, Cian’s concern must be double or triple his own, and perhaps that may just be the main reason why he had left this office as soon as had learned about what’s going on. He wants to find the Castform too, of course, and he cares about him too, but not nearly as much as how much he cares for Cian. That’s just the way it goes.

There is a slight smile, and he takes Cian’s hand, squeezing gently to offer reassurance.

Anything could happen, and wild pokémon can be a danger to one so small and friendly...

Like the Mr Mime that tries to get in their way with one of it's silly games. A pokémon Mars usually doesn't mind, Psychic type as it is, but that today he has no time or patience for. Calling out a Froslass, he does no more than nod towards the pokémon, WILL-O-WISP burning it and only increasing the power of the HEX that follows. For the sole sake of it, Mars throws a pokéball.

it sounds like a very cian junior thing to do because cian does the same thing, and you know what they say: like father, like son.

a hand smacks a pokeball on his belt, calling out his glalie to take on the wild spearow.

and so glalie does: a simple ICE FANG is all it takes before a pokeball consumes it whole.

In truth, the Castform could have actually been really far. It could have easily wandered off, floated away, and been nowhere near Route 116 by now, but obviously Mars won’t say that to Cian. That’s not what he needs to hear right now. What good would it do to mention a painful truth that he’s probably already aware of? It’s better to think positive, right?

Mars has never considered himself an optimist, he just has full faith in his own ability to get things done no matter what, but can he really have full faith in that he’ll find Cian Junior and bring him back? Mars being Mars, of course he can.

Something moves in the bushes nearby, but it’s no Castform. Instead, it’s a Ralts, and Mars rolls his eyes at the sight.

Ever dutiful, the Froslass makes quick work of the unwanted pokémon, taking no more than a HEX for it to be weakened enough for Mars to throw a pokéball.

He points towards a nearby path, away from the main road.

cian junior's young, innocent, and pretty oblivious to things in general, so it wouldn't surprise him if the castform had just floated all the way to another city or out towards the ocean, even.

but pokemon are supposed to be smart, aren't they?

something moves in the bushes but cian pays no mind to them. he's too focused on rescuing their son.

he looks to the nearby path.

"sure. let's go that way."

and tugs mars by his hand.

Stepping away from the main road, among the trees, wild pokémon are more likely to appear. Perhaps that’s why it comes as no surprise that it’s only after a few minutes that a Kadabra stands in their way, the Froslass being quick to deal with it with no commands needed. This one actually manages to hit her with a PSYBEAM, but the damage is soon taken care of thanks to a DRAINING KISS.

Once the Kadabra is weakened, Mars throws a pokéball, then turning to look at Cian.

It's unlikely, but one of them has to focus more on dealing with the wild pokémon while the other searches, right?

it's difficult to remain focused, to not spend all his time looking around, peering through the dense wilderness in search for his sweet, innocent child. cian junior could be anywhere at this point, and yet, he remains hopeful.

It’s with a sigh that he calls the Froslass back to her pokéball when retrieving that which now belongs to the Kadabra, instead calling one of his Inkay to his side.

Just in time too, since the moment he steps too close to a bush, a small Eevee jumps out of it, running away in fear. And, for a second, Mars simply watches it, only to then give no more than a quiet click of his tongue...

HYPNOSIS quickly puts the Eevee to sleep, and a pokéball is thrown.
[break][break]
Then, his attention turns to Cian, tilting his head just so slightly at the question.
[break][break]
”You know this is more important than work.”
[break][break]
He says this as if it were obvious, even if they both know there’s very little he considers more important than his job.

The unusually coloured Inkay floats near Cian, doing a little twirl in the air – as if happy to see him.

it did little to calm his nerves but he still appreciated its presence all the same.

he continued on, skipping over the bronzor.
