The island within Sootopolis' massive crater that housed the Tree of Life had become overrun with mischievous Fairy-types and overgrown Grass-types since Rocket's takeover. This abundance was beginning to leak towards the neighborhoods nearby, however. Which meant Remiel Calcifet and his assigned partner, octavia nuys , were sent to go cull the numbers.[break][break]

Thorgrim hops off the rowboat first after the humans row it to shore. The Galarian Meowth excitedly rushes forward to explore the nearby bushes, snickering with delight. Remiel, in the meantime, exits next before extending a hand to the witchy woman to help her out. "Don't mind Thorgrim," He says. "He wouldn't harm a single hair on your head."[break][break]

[attr="class","octavia i"]okay, it's hard to not stare at that tree. i mean really, what the fuck? it's big and man, the vibes! she's a kid in a candy store, unable to stop grinning long enough to do much else besides bumble off the boat. remiel, bless his heart, offers her a hand to ease her transition from boat to land. she takes it with a gloved hand, eyes darting excitedly even as he talks.

really, she's acting just like his ugly-cute cat. two peas in a pod, huh?

anyway, it takes a second for his words to actually process. and then, she's whipping toward him in a swirl of star speckled twin tails and swaying fabric from her hat.

"he could," she retorts. a laugh follows and she's releasing his hand to trot forward, her phantump slowly floating behind her. darling little atropos definitely shakes his head, almost in apology, at remiel but that's neither here nor there. "hair is good for spells, anyway!" is called over her shoulder as she all but beelines for the tree's trunk.

her hands are outstretched like a baby learning to walk and her entire essence is all but radiating one specific thing: soak up the vibes, soak up the vibes!

Remiel regards the apologetic Phantump with an amused smile. The woman's insistence that Thorgrim could misbehave, and get away with it, was rather strange to say the least. He put some credence in spell work and magic, too, but when it came to her abilities, well... it took much more than just a pointy hat and mystical-themed attire to convince the Galarian prince.[break][break]

He watches as she saunters forward with her arms outstretched, folding his own across his chest as he observes the bizarre behavior with confusion.[break][break]

[attr="class","octavia i"]listen, that pointy hat and magical attire... is merely for aesthetic purposes BUT she does happen to have a lengthy spell repertoire. and perhaps unfortunately for most people, baneful magic is her specialty. anyway, she fixes him with an odd stare, as if she doesn't understand his confusion.

her head tilts, pointy hat flopping slightly to one side. she ignores it, if only to keep her hands focused on the task of absorbing whatever energy the tree of life possesses.

"absorbing the vibes," she retorts. it doesn't quite work but she doesn't need to know that. it'd be better to simply set out crystals to charge beneath the tree, really, but that's the next step... when there's less critter running around.

atropos, for the most part, lingers closer to remiel than his own trainer. traitor. the possessed stump is merely observing, halfway between the wild witch and her company. she glances over her shoulder at the pair, raising an eyebrow.

"have you never felt energy before?"

Relatively pragmatic, despite his experience with Ghost-types (or, perhaps, because of it), Remiel slightly furrows his brow at the mention of 'absorbing the vibes'. Did she claim to have such abilities as her Phantump? His cold stare shifts over to the forlorn ghost, wondering perhaps if it had any answers to her bizarre behavior.[break][break]

"I've felt energy before," He responds, stepping closer to the tree and coming to a stop just off to her side. "But I don't feel it now. Not from this tree, anyway." He crosses his arms as he examines it for a moment... then looks at her with a suspicious narrowing of his cobalt blues. "Are you... delirious?"[break][break]

Nearby, Thorgrim whacks his paws at a bushes before hissing and leaping backward. It seems to try and TAUNT something out afterwards, sticking out its tongue and pointing its rear end in the direction of that bush.[break][break]

[attr="class","octavia i"]are you delirious? "bitch, i might be," she regards him with a statement thrown over her shoulder. it's simple, matter of fact. her sanity is neither here nor there and certainly not relevant to the task at hand.

her phantump lingers closer to remiel than her. perhaps atropos knows better than to interrupt her and her vibes. either that or he's simply trying to make a friend.

"what energy have you felt before?" she turns her head a fraction, enough to stare at him with an eyebrow quirked. her hands are still outstretched, fingers wiggling slightly. "there's a life force about this tree. different from usual energy signatures and certainly different from mundane sources." electricity, for example, has an energy signature that could be considered child's play to the feeling of this tree.

the tree itself... well, it almost feels alive.

if she squints hard enough, she can just barely make out a faint green aura around its trunk. and if she turns her gaze back to remiel, she'll find his aura to be of a tan color.

He raises a brow, unamused by the casual statement. Though he understands it is thrown around quite freely these days, especially by those his own age. Regardless, he still entertains her inquiries shortly thereafter.[break][break]

"I've felt it in catacombs deep beneath the palaces of Hammerlocke... Pokémon dens in the wilds of Galar... sacred totem sanctuaries in Alola... and, more recently, Mt. Meteor." He looks up, regarding the tree with an analytical gaze as his Meowth continues to taunt something hiding in the bushes behind him.[break][break]

"This tree definitely appears to have the makings of something legendary," The royal continues. "I just can't be certain you're not picking up something your mind and your desires have tricked you into believing."[break][break]

[attr="class","octavia i"]she's quiet while he makes a list, chewing on each example until she gets a better idea. what he speaks of sounds similar, sure, but there's a different edge to this energy than what he describes.

she's read excerpts in grimoires of witches past who describe things like this. they all come back to the same thing: life force. the essence of a soul left behind. she feels it in her fingertips now, just barely. unfortunately for her, she's absolute garbage with energy work.

"bestie," she calls, turning her head to look at him. "why are you so certain my mind has convinced me of this?" her nose crinkles at a thought. "are you not a belieber? no no--wrong word. believer."

atropos has a look of mild pity when he, too, turns to remiel.

Bestie? He turns to look at her as well, then winces at the sound of the word 'belieber'. He understood that reference. "I believe in what I can see and touch. To put it simply: in what I can analyze through proper scientific method." He responds, reaching into his jacket pocket for a thin cigarette and a lighter. The attempt to quit had failed beneath the pressure of recent events.[break][break]

Placing the cigarette between his lips, the prince speaks with a careful mutter as he ignites his lighter hovers it beneath the tip. "Have you considered becoming a scientist yourself, Octavia?" He inquires, gently sucking in the first drag and placing his lighter away afterwards. "What we traditionally know as 'witches' and 'shamans' were, technically, the first scientists and doctors known to man, you know."[break][break]

Suddenly, the pokemon hiding in the bushes fall for Thorgrim's taunt, leaping out of the bushes to swarm the battle-hungry, excited cat.[break][break]

she's guided by instinct, intuition, gut feeling. oh, and a lot of stupidity. to each their own, right?

"huh," she chews on it for a moment. "do you not have, like, a gut feeling? thought everyone did." maybe his is under-developed? or lacking? she thinks a little further on the concept before it's lost to the wind, scattered like the rest of her thoughts.

"no, i prefer the occult to mundane." although, is science considered mundane? it sounds fitting enough and smart so fuck it. she rolls into the next topic easily, as if plucking thoughts from the sky to sit in her hair. "there's different kinds of witches, you know. herbal, dark, light, kitchen. each one with their own tricks, all led by the same belief of something more than five simple senses."

her head tilts as if thrown off kilter by the thought process. the hat flops unceremoniously to one side.

"do you possess a sixth sense, sir?"

bushes rustle and atropos turns at the sound. it would seem remiel's ugly cat has pestered enough to draw out life forms. thankfully, octavia is distracted enough to not wrestle with them... the ever faithful phantump quickly handles the stray kirlia, bopping it over the head with wood hammer. and before it can even hit the ground, a pokeball flies to capture it.

huh, maybe octavia does actually pay attention? no, she just had a feeling.

Of course he has gut feelings. Everybody does, on some level, he thinks. His has attuned itself towards the taming of dragons and the presence of Ghost-type Pokémon. Though certainly not the 'feelings' of trees.

She writes off science as mundane, and goes into a tangent about the various types of witches. Many that he knew of, in fact, considering they had a place in Galarian folktales, legends, and myths. When she finishes, Remiel turns to find a SNUBBULL barking at his cat.

"A sixth sense for falsehoods, perhaps," The royal dryly responds, watching as Thorgrim strikes the dog down with a METAL CLAW. Afterwards, he produces a luxury ball out from his pack and tosses it, turning to face Octavia again when a flash of light devours the Snubbull.

"I'm curious... what does your 'sixth sense' tell you about me?" He asks, if only for brief amusement.
