The air is warmed by sunlight filtering through the window, steadily pouring into her lungs as the rhythm of a mechanical heart fills her ears. How long has she been out of it? Where is she right now?

A low purr fights against the monochrome, a hint of warmth gently pressing against her hand. He's here as always, never leaving her side no matter how hard she tries to push him away. Because of a promise? Or because she's all that he has left?

Sharp are the thorns that prickle in her side, drawing a hiss from her lips as she instinctively jerks. Reiner keens but doesn't dare to move any closer, instead turning his attention to the bedside and nudging a water bottle into her reach.

Breathe again.

She does so when she reaches for the bottle, her fingers brushing against his mane and gently entangling themselves with a familiar comfort. It's the feel of home, a warmth that can't be erased no matter how far they travel or who they meet - Just the two of them, as it always has been.

The door to this room remains closed but unlocked for anyone who thinks to visit.

Roman tensed, emeralds glaring at the closed door as if trying to will the obstruction away. Hospitals made him uncomfortable on regular visits. They smelled like medicine, the doctors asked too many questions, and then there was the crap food. He'd heated better-tasting things in the microwave while waiting for mom to come home. If hadn't forced him to come, Roman would be anywhere else. "Suck it up, it's not about how you feel - it's about doing the right thing." is what his dad said or something like that. Truthfully, he'd been trying to focus on anything but his old man at the time.[break][break]

Boruta was right, of course. Being here didn't have anything to do with Roman or his feelings. It was about her. . The girl he'd attacked in front of everyone. With a sharp blade, Roman went to cut out her heart. Deliver to her the kind of pain you didn't recover from in a few nights of sleep. Karma stopped him. [break][break]

Roman's gut told him he didn't, at least not for trying to hurt Eris. , on the other hand? Something in his stomach coiled like an Ekans around prey. His fingers pressed into his palms at the feeling.[break][break]

"Does it matter?" he asked, eyes still on the floor. Roman's voice lacked its usual edge, the sharp razor that tried to cut her replaced by something dull and melancholy. "Just accepct the apology so I can leave." So he could go back to his room and ignore the world.

The way he holds out on his emotions reminds her of herself, a mirror image of a broken child trying to piece themselves back together again. Life has probably dealt him a bad hand and everything is slowly driving him to insanity within this world.

Her eyes are clear even when she speaks of such things, for she knows that feeling better than anyone else. At some point in her life, she had been just as prickly and violent as Roman was, always getting in trouble and getting talked to for hours after that. If it truly was a case of feeling unheard, she's offering a space for him to talk, encouraging him to vent before her and perhaps, even daring him to lose his temper right here and now.
