Mt. Pyre, Jagged Pass, Route 116… For as little credit as they get, of course some rangers would notice the recent influx of people visiting places like these to catch wild pokémon. Even Meteor Falls had become victim of Hoenn’s sudden “Unown craze”, and while that’s all good and fine, it definitely isn’t the kind of perfectly safe place where a bunch of people can just wander around without a care in the world…

Just in case, Vic finds himself out patrolling the area on this particular day; clad in full ranger uniform and with his Dragapult following close behind him at every step. Things are quiet for a while (or as quiet as they can be with rapids and waterfalls crashing against rocks nearby), but it’s then when he notices Matias and his small gang of Katonian Eeveelutions.

for once, matias actually remembers. how could he forget the man who saved his life?

his eeveelutions perk their heads up at the sound of company only to turn it away moments after at the approaching poliwrath. its eyes pulse in a HYPNOSIS, but it's too slow against the four that rush out as a synchronized unit.

THUNDER is what ultimately takes it down.

Honestly, despite the way he chuckles, Vic is somewhat surprised that Matias actually remembers who he is. After all, the Hoenn Star Tournament had been forever ago, and he had battled a whole bunch of people. They both had also been at Mt. Chimney when the whole Groudon thing happened, sure, but back then most people had been too preoccupied with like… actually dealing with Groudon and stuff.

And also taking killer selfies, of course. How could anyone forget that?

It’s a second later that a Kadabra attempts to use its MIRACLE EYE on the Dragapult, and in response, the spectral dragon calmly wanders over to it, floating upside down as it meets the Psychic type’s gaze. Without a sound, without a warning, it attacks with a point blank HEX.

much like how this beheeyem tries to kill him as a SIMP BEAM shoots straight at him. it's a shame he ain't a simp. maybe if it had fired it at DANNY HALL...

there's nothing to stop the PSYCHIC TERRAIN from sparking out across the space around them. his pokemon react accordingly, spreading out before taking the beheeyem down with coordinated attacks.

the tri-attack, we could say.

if only matias named his pokemon...

his four pokemon bounce up and down at the dragon, which is apparently their way of saying hello. their attentions quickly turn to the MAGICAL LEAF, and realizing it's not the same as virizion's, flareon's SMOG quickly fills the space around them.

from it, they fan out, taking the kirlia in a few seconds.

a pokeball captures it.

Upon being greeted, the Dragapult tilts its head, the Dreepy that lie within its horns mimicking this action and tilting theirs as well. All three of them look at Matias, their curiosity perhaps being their own greeting, and Vic can’t help but smirk just so slightly when seeing this.

”Ha. Yeah, it is… My little brother said his tail kinda looks like taffy, and then it just stuck. I used to always let them name my pokémon.”

There’s really no need for an explanation, but it’s with a short laugh that it comes all the same; this sound only finding itself interrupted when coughing at the increasing amount of SMOG that no longer seems to belong to just the Flareon. Through the polluted fog, the Dragapult squints once more, this time noticing the hostile Turtonator in the distance and shooting its DRAGON DARTS at it with no warning at all.

That’s really all it takes, and when the smog clears, a Heal Ball is thrown.

The dragon lazily sways its tail, as if mildly content at the praise.

matias always forgets there are dreepys that tag along with dragapults. the appearance of the two surprise him a bit.

"used to? what changed?"

a GROWL pulls his attention away, and after pointing, his pokemon fan out to deal with the wild lombre.

it doesn't take long for a final BITE from jolteon to faint the lombre. a pokeball is thrown after.
