ongbird awaited for the arrival of her partner to appear. as she did so, she was busy staring at the screen light of her device. she was watching videos of the past. interviews and music videos of the like. did she miss such a life? had she cultivated this for herself? was what she happened to be singing a mere facade or the truth? did she truly care for peace? there was so much running through her mind that she could barely think. but as she stood at the bottom of mt. pyre, she possessed clothing that which befitted a hiker. black gloves, beige shorts, a dark tank top and her hair tied into a pony tail. she was ready to get a move on. all she needed to do was await the operative that was assigned to work alongside her today.

After several weeks, maybe even months, of recovering from her run-in with a trio of Abomansow in a snowstorm, she had finally been well enough to take on a new mission.[break][break]

Hiking didn't seem like the worst sort of exercise, and the objective was simple enough. Granted, Emma also didn't realise that the hiking trip would be full of ghost Pokemon.[break][break]

Like her partner, Emma was dressed in appropriate hiking-wear. She wore tall black hiking boots to protect her skin from stray branches and thorns. The outfit was matched with a pair of black shorts and black tank top. Her hair was bound in a tight, professional bun to prevent it from getting entangled.[break][break]

As she approached, she recognised the young woman peering into the bright screen of her phone. From her brief encounter with several of the grunts, it's likely that Emma had heard of Songbird, the girl who had defected from the League and from the Silph family.[break][break]

She had no interest in addressing this information, it was none of her concern. The woman's codename 'Songbird' didn't even phase her. It was no different, after all, to Emma changing her last name to 'Wolfe'.[break][break]

he was here. one of the many superiors of rocket. of course songbird was still a new entry and had little trust from many due to what many believed coursed through her blood. she was only a silph by paper, not by blood. though, what wolfe thought of her was not of her concern. she was merely a superior, and songbird was merely doing what was needed...for now anyways. "our targets reside at the top. we simply need to get past the obstacle of ghosts that may or may not run about or act as guards. the artifact is said to be kept hidden by the couple who preside as guardians over it, ma'am." songbird informed.

"our mission begins here." and without much to wait on. on Emma Wolfe's behest, they would move out upon their hike. that was only if she didn't have any questions she wanted to ask or things she wanted to go over of course.

There's a brief, micro-second moment of panic that causes Emma to pause.[break][break]

Ghosts? Was she fucking serious?[break][break]

"You can drop the ma'am. As far as I'm concerned, we're the same."[break][break]

She does, however, look up the side of the mountain they will be climbing. The path seems easy enough, straightforward. It's likely there will be mild obstacles they should traverse carefully, but otherwise a relatively normal hike.[break][break]

With or without Songbird, Emma begins the hike. It appeared that their target was in the control of a couple who were guardians of some sort of temple. [break][break]

The only other thing Emma says is straight to the point, without even looking over her shoulder.[break][break]

"There will be no extreme force, understood? This artifact will not be retrieved at the cost of an innocent's life."[break][break]

o extreme force? this caught songbird by surprise. was this a test? no, she didn't seem like the type to test someone when it came to the matter of life or death. but if they weren't to extract the information that was acquired songbird would not hesitate to utilize force. "ah..." what was she thinking? she was beginning to sound like her brother and silas as well.

covering her mouth. she'd follow emma in suit. "as long as we avoid the silas's wrath, i'm fine with the decision." songbird replied. "though, i must ask, this artifact must be of great importance if we're to do whatever it may come to for this artifact." songbird commented, curiosity loomed inside emerald hues. "do you know as to what the artifact is or what it does?" songbird asked.

Songbird may not have outright asked, but her moment of hesitation was enough for Emma to pick up on her confusion. Her eyes were heavy and dark as she locked onto Songbird's. She was serious about this.[break][break]

"If we have to use excessive force, so be it. But we will not kill these people."[break][break]

She sighs as she continues to make her way up the path. Songbird is inquiring about the artifact in question. Emma really doesn't know anything about it. That imperative information had likely been kept under wraps in order to prevent anyone from taking the artifact and defecting.[break][break]

"No. I've been given no information about it. It's.. trifling." [break][break]

o extreme force, got it. as they shuffled their way to the top, unbeknownst as to what awaited them, they were greeted by what seemed to be the guardians of this mountain: haunter, and not just one but two! "wait," calling upon her pokemon mismagius with the flick of a ball. she'd summon forth the mistress of witchcraft. "it seems our path has been blocked by guardian spirits." whatever laid ahead, they weren't allowed to proceed any further as the duo ghost-types made them wait. [break][break]

"shall we exorcise them, miss wolfe?" she'd ask her fellow partner. ready for combat, mismagius began to lowly chant a spell. delaying their time was annoying, so she wished to take care of the haunter's as quick and swiftly as possible.

Emma stared forward, ice running through her veins as she caught sight of two Haunter. Their ghastly forms hovered near the top, preventing them from continuing. They were sinister and unfriendly, a warning that they would stop them at all cost.[break][break]

"Yes. The sooner the better."[break][break]

Unfortunately, it seemed that Songbird herself had a ghost. The hair along the back of her neck was stiff as she tried to avoid eye contact. Her fear of ghosts was powerful and it was taking everything in her to not give up now.[break][break]

If she hadn't already had Lycanroc by her side, the beast would be there now. With his eyes wild with anticipation and the thrill of the hunt, he would inhale the smell of the two Haunters, pinpointing their location. They wouldn't be able to escape him now.[break][break]

"Hades."[break][break]

It's just occurred to her that she's given the brute a name. She dismisses the thought, returning to the task at hand.[break][break]

"Taunt one of them and take it out with crunch."[break][break]

He howls, his voice eerily loud and terrifying. The noise attracts one of the more aggressive Haunter. It approaches him swiftly, attempting to go invisibile. Fortunately, due to Lycanroc's ODER SLEUTH, the Haunter's wind up for a SHADOW PUNCH is seen.[break][break]

The beast moves to evade the attack, instead crunching down hard on the ghostly hand. The Haunter screams in pain and explodes, wisps of purple smoke rising. Perhaps Lycanroc hadn't killed it, but he had eliminated the threat temporarily.[break][break]

Lycanroc turns to look at the other Haunter, but assumes the woman's Mismagius is capable of defeating it alone.[break][break]

"We're almost to the top, let's move."[break][break]

Meanwhile, once they arrived they would be faced with another threat. The old woman who guarded the temple wasn't likely to let them traipse through and take whatever they wanted without a fight.[break][break]
