The arid air sizzled as the sun scorched the earth below. Jasper, who fell victim to it's cancerous waves, had situated themselves under a small tree, cracked lips left in a frown.

"Be there soon," the person had said.

That was an hour ago.

The dreary illusion of time ticked forward at a snail's pace, spanning from now to an eternity away, far beyond their reach. All they needed was for one rupture of normalcy in the environment around them-- one sign that the wide-spanning dessert was not some backdrop of a delirious episode.

What kind of dumbass drove their bike out into the desert?[break][break]

That's what Izzy was assuming had happened, at least - nobody was stupid enough to bring a car out there, obviously. He'd gotten the call, as he so often did, that someone's poor old method of transportation had bitten the dust and so Izzy would need to head out there and put everything back together again - or at least get it back to his place for work.[break][break]

He'd taken his own bike up towards the desert, then left it by the outskirts while he trekked his way into the sun-baked, sand-riddled route, with Pilka's pokeball strapped to his belt - seemed the easiest solution to quick-start a motor would be to let the VOLTORB zap it.[break][break]

We worried, for a moment, that his hunt through the sunburnt dustbowl might end up fruitless, trekking past a lazy pile of sleeping SANDSHREW, and a VIBRAVA that buzzed it's wings cautiously at him. Sure enough, however, there they were - a figure, carefully tucked up a lonely tree. Izzy called out to them as he approached.[break][break]

The buzz of the heat hummed in his ears. If someone weren't here soon, well, the blinding lights of reality would be quick to dim. "Huh...?" Jasper thought to have heard another's voice slice through the air between them. He smacked his dried lips and peered across the waves of sand, stopping at the unfamiliar blur of color.

They were here.

Jasper whipped his arm to the left, grabbed his slanted water bottle, and brought it's tip to his lips. The last gulps of water flowed down this throat graciously, refreshing him enough to speak. "Thank fuckin' Arecus ya here." Jasper grunted as dragged his forearm across his lips. "Man, I was thiiiis close to fuckin' dyin' out in this heat." Shaky legs brought the man up to his feet. Then, with a grimace spread across his face, he nodded to the left of him. "There she is."

There, sprawled out on the sand, was a passed out corvknight taxi. Splashes of exhaustion was evident across their redden face. "She randomly gave in as we were flyin' overhead-- kinda fuckin' suspicious, dude. Y'all feed your Pokémon, right?"

The sun above shone so hard and strong, it's great white-hot visage gleaming down at them. Izzy wiped beads of sweat from his forehead with the back of his arm and sighed. He had never been a heat kinda guy, and the heat of the desert was worse than the rest of the region by far.[break][break]

"Yeah, well, you're all good now"[break][break]

He shrugs off his backpack, wherein there's the kinds of tools he'd need to check the most common problems. At the very least, he'd be able to get the bike back to the much safer parts of Route 111 so that the customer could, at the very least, walk back to Mauville.[break][break]

There she is.[break][break]

Izzy doesn't pay attention to the fact that the guy names their bike as a she - people did weird stuff with their vehicles, after all, but when he looked up and noticed the heat-exhausted Corviknight, he stared for a moment. Stared at the bird, then at the stranger, then back to the bird. Then he saw red - he'd really taken time out where he could've been doing an actual job, earning actual money, to go out into the middle of heatstroke land for some bird prank?[break][break]

"...The fuck is this bullshit? Do you think you're fuckin' funny or something?"

The sudden flip of emotion caught Jasper off guard. Did he say something wrong? It shouldn't be too much of an issue to provide some aid-- it wasn't like the avian had fainted or anything.

Frowning, he threw his arms into the air. The sudden rise of tension brought out a similar level of frustration from his stomach. "What's your fuckin' problem? I called for some assistance, so fuckin' offer it like you're supposed to."

At the other person's matched frustration, Izzy nearly snapped again, a shouting match building up in his gut and anger forming a hot ball in his throat. But then he thinks for a moment - if they were really pulling his leg, why would they be so mad, too?[break][break]

He groans, pushing a clump of his bangs from his forehead. One long, drawn-out, deep breath.[break][break]

"I'm a fucking mechanic, dipshit. I don't fix... birds!" The frustration threatens to rise further again, but Izzy steadily tries to keep a hold on it, keeping each sentence steady so as to not start throwing hands right here.[break][break]

"I thought. You were calling. About a bike." Izzy stares at the stranger through the heatwaves of the desert route. "...But... ugh. I can try and help. I don't know too much about flying types, though..." He grumbles.[break][break]
